Advancement to Student Teaching Interview Questions Prior to the interview, select one lesson that you implemented with students. Write a brief cover description of your lesson that describes the following: 1. the course for which you developed the lesson 2. whether or not you collaborated with others in developing the lesson 3. where and when you implemented the lesson. No later than three days prior to your interview, submit 2 copies of your lesson plan, lesson materials (if any), and the cover sheet to Betsey Gibbs in Room 101B of Mother Rosalie Hill Hall. On the day of the interview, bring a copy of the lesson plan to refer to. Come prepared to discuss and elaborate upon the following questions. In answering these questions, you may also discuss how you would enhance any particular aspect of the lesson plan based on your current knowledge. You will have approximately 5 minutes to answer each question, so prepare accordingly. 1. Context for Learning (TPEs 6, 7, 8, 11): Describe how your knowledge of the importance of context and strategies for drawing on students’ diverse experiential backgrounds, interests, and prior knowledge (including students' proficiency in English and other developmental needs) were used in the lesson plan to provide appropriate instruction to support all students’ needs and abilities. 2. Planning: (TPEs 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10) A. Explain, using specific examples, how the activities in the lesson plan relate to the state-adopted academic content standards for students in the grade level chosen. B. Discuss how the key learning tasks and instructional strategies in your plan build on each other to support student learning across the lesson. 3. Assessment: (TPEs 2, 3) Describe the relationship between the learning tasks, assessments (formative or summative), and content standards. Your discussion should include where the student has the opportunity to learn what is being assessed, how the learning tasks and assessments are related to the content standards, and how they assess deep learning. 4. Reflection (TPEs 7, 8, 13) Based on your experience teaching this lesson, describe what you learned about the students, and what changes you would make to improve the learning of the same students, and of other students with different needs and characteristics. 5. Academic Language (TPEs 1, 4, 5, 7, 8): Discuss your understanding of the language demands of the lesson and your ability to assist learners who need support with academic language development. You should also familiarize yourself with the Interview Rubric in preparing for the interview. Level 2 represents a passing score on each dimension of the rubric. To receive a passing score on the interview, you may receive no more than ONE score in the Level 1 category.
