Lina C. Romero Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Program The University of San Diego, through the School of Leadership and Education Sciences, is pleased to present the Lina C. Romero Memorial Scholarship to assist students who are currently pursuing a degree in special education and/or planning to work with students with learning differences. The scholarship will provide one $1000 award each academic year. Lina C. Romero This scholarship has been established in honor of Lina Romero, a vibrant young alumnus who completed her undergraduate degree in Diversified Liberal Arts degree (2000) at the University of San Diego. At the time of her unfortunate death, Lina was pursuing her multiple subject credential in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences. In honor of Lina, her mother and sister have established the Lina C. Romero Memorial Scholarship to assist graduate students who share Lina's passion for education and enthusiasm for learning. Requirements To qualify for the Lina C. Romero Memorial Scholarship, the following criteria should be satisfied: • Must be a graduate student in the School of Leadership and Education Sciences’ Department of Learning and Teaching. • Must have demonstrated financial need. • Preference will be given to students of Hispanic background. • Preference will be given to students with a disability and/or students in the special education program. Application Procedures 1. Complete the scholarship application form. 2. Submit the required one-page essay. 3. Submit a letter from a professor recommending him/her for the award. This letter should address the applicant’s financial need and academic performance and should be attached to the application package. All scholarship application materials must be submitted with the application and are due by the application deadline.
