University of San Diego School of Education Other-Esteem Scholarship Program For Counseling Students Scholarship Program The University of San Diego, through the School of Education, is introducing its scholarship program for graduate students who wish to pursue a career in counseling. The purpose of this program is to promote spirit and practice of Other-Esteem and to help students attain their dream of graduate education. The scholarships are to assist graduate students who wish to pursue a degree in counseling, and are practitioners of the concepts of “Other-Esteem.” The University has named this financial award the Other-Esteem Scholarship Program.

Other-Esteem Scholarship Program

The University will award scholarships annually to incoming and continuing students. The scholarship is a one-time award of six units (three per semester), to be used for the following academic year. OtherEsteem Scholarship awards may also be combined with other forms of University and outside financial aid for students with demonstrated need. Applicants must have an overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, or graduate GPA of at least 3.0 on 24 or more completed units, each from an accredited institution.

other to qualify for the Other-Esteem scholarship program, the following criteria should be satisfied: Must be a graduate student accepted into USD’s Counseling program Must enroll in at least six graduate units during each semester in which scholarship is received Must have read the book “Other-Esteem” Award recipients will exhibit and promote the practice of Other-Esteem Award recipients make a commitment to donate to the Other-Esteem scholarship fund at their discretion, when financially capable • Award recipients agree to provide assistance with Other-Esteem projects when needed In addition to the above criteria, applicants will also be evaluated on the basis of their financial need, academic performance, and their involvement in the helping professions.

Initial Application Procedure 1. Complete the program application on the other side of this sheet. 2. Each applicant must have a letter from a professor recommending him/her for the award. This letter should address the applicant’s financial need, academic performance and involvement in the helping professions. The letter should be attached to the application package. 3. Each applicant must verify his or her GPA by obtaining a letter of verification or official transcript from the institution attended. 4. Return all application materials (1-3) directly to: Other Esteem Scholarship, c/o Dr. Philip Hwang, School of Education. 5. All Admissions and Financial Aid forms must be properly completed and processed. Each applicant must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the USD Financial Aid Application (USD FAA). All forms must be filed by published financial aid filing deadlines. 04/17/01
