Leadership Minor and American Humanics Program

Leadership Minor The Leadership Minor of the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) offers undergraduate students in any major the opportunity to learn about and develop leadership abilities in their personal and professional lives. Studies include an understanding of how organizations function; how change occurs in people’s lives, in the organizations to which they belong, and in society in general; and the nature and purpose of leadership in transforming people, organizations, and society. Leadership minor students learn about group dynamics and study the ethical dimensions of leadership. Students articulate their own philosophy of leadership that will guide them in their future careers and throughout life. Practical experience is included to provide students the opportunity to develop their leadership abilities. Students may take this program separately or in conjunction with the American Humanics Program.

Distinguishing Features • Students acquire practical leadership skills. • USD offers many opportunities for students to put leadership theory into practice by providing paid and volunteer positions on campus. Paid positions include resident assistants, Associated Students leadership team, the VISTA staff, and Residence Hall Council. Volunteer positions include orientation team and board, Greek Life leadership, student mentors, community service coordinators, Outdoor Adventure guides, Campus Connections, and many others.
