....................................................................................... How do you exercise leadership in your organization and your sector? Are you willing to explore your contribution to the difficulties you face? Are you ready to learn how to improve your own and others’ team work? Do you want to better understand the many latent processes that occur in your institution and in human systems in general? Are you ready to explore and transform the roles that you take within your organization? Would you like to discover how you can initiate, contribute to, and lead the transformation of the organizations in which you participate?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. - Nelson Mandela, inaugural address, written by Marianne Williamson
I-Context
....................................................................................... Globalization offers the compulsive challenge of understanding how different systems, communities and institutions are mutually accountable for the world that we have created where stagnation and poverty thrive in our world. In regions like Asia where over 600 million people live in poverty on $1 a day, long-term growth prospects will depend on how successfully the various countries tackle a range of complex issues. This involves International Organizations, and Aid Institutions being able to work together as related systems in order to explore and understand how their purpose and actions can contribute to and promote social transformation, instead of repeating competitive dynamics that end up harming local economies and increase external dependency. These challenges include developing microeconomic stability, integration in the global economy, creating a conducive business and investment climate and above all, ensuring that the benefits of growth are shared by all. Critical in these challenges is cooperation and systemic approach among and within International Organizations such as the UN, ILO, WB, AB as well as the main NGOs and principal Aid Institutions for example World Vision International and CARE. Meanwhile the world is moving very rapidly. Our ability to be more readily connected through technology to one another and the enormous amounts of information we receive on a daily basis means that some of our previous ways of working and being in the world no longer serve our institutions or ourselves as effectively. Innovating and collaborating across various boundaries such as cultures, religions, sectors, governments and institutions is critical in creating new methods of engagement and working together that advance the whole. Environmental challenges related to utilization of resources within an economic rationalist dimension, war and religion being the basis for suspicion not hope, demands that people involved in development can access all available resources to be effective in their roles and in the institutions they serve. Dialogue and shared understanding related to aspects of living in this complex world that result in ambiguity being embraced not denied will contribute to the reduction of polarized or extreme positions in matters of economy, governance, faith and resources that underpin sustainable solutions in a changing world.

II-ThePurpose
....................................................................................... To develop a spirit of inquiry into the lived experience of life in the ‘temporary learning community’ in order to promote transformation in a globalized world.
III-TheMethod
....................................................................................... The participant staff and the participant members will be working in different roles as authors (passive or active) in the creation of a temporary learning community. Each participant will take up different roles and responsibilities in the various subsystems that form the totality of the Learning Community System (The Institution). •
Based on the experience of being a participant member of the community, each person will be able to reflect on how he or she behaves in it, how s/he is perceived by the group, how s/he impacts it and in turn is impacted by it. In that way, each participant will reach an understanding of what a system is, the purpose that it serves, the roles s/he takes within it with the opportunity to transform his/her roles and thereby transforming the system.
•
Each participant will be able to discover how his/her conscious and unconscious experience is conditioned by their inner world and by the processes of the group.
•
In the learning process, feelings, dreams, physical sensations, fantasies, wishes and desires are resources offering each participant a valuable source of information about themselves and about the community as a system.
The Learning Community System is an experiential learning event with no lectures or key note speakers. The only indispensable precondition is the desire to explore, discover and learn from lived experience, a non-conventional way of learning requiring no previous training or specific type of education. Participants (members and staff ) will learn from their own experience of interacting with others. Opportunities to explore new roles, understand the repetition of current roles, the taking up of leadership and experiencing the effects of one's own authority and the authority of others on the system.

IV-Methodology
....................................................................................... The Conference methodology is based in the traditions of Group Relations and Institutional transformation (GRIT). The process of the Conference is the interplay between the actual behaviour of participants and their experience. Mental concepts or ideas-in-the-mind are ways that participants have of disciplining and managing the felt experience of the Conference as they engage with other participants. Concepts like system, role, institution, leadership and management, which may be familiar to Conference participants, may be illuminated and/or transformed during the Conference itself. Other concepts relevant to Conference experience are power, authority, task, boundaries, conscious, unconscious, here-and-now, reality, God, values, faith and belief which will probably emerge as participants interact. The dynamics of the Conference may be symbolised by a spiral where engagement issues in meaning, and meaning points to our underlying being, leading to further engagement, deeper meaning and new disclosure of being. Thus the Conference provides the opportunity to begin from a position of enquiry rather than from a position of conviction or belief. This enquiry is on the basis of faith as opposed to belief: the Abrahamic spirit of not knowing where we are going but with the faith that together we can contribute to this discovery. The conceptual framework for the study of human behaviour in systems is built around the work of Wilfred Bion, Ken Rice, Pierre Turquet, Bruce Reed, Eric Miller, Gregory Bateson and Gordon Lawrence, who together broadly constitute the Tavistock Tradition, and David Gutmann, Christophe Verrier and Jacqueline Ternier-David who have innovated in the field of Institutional Transformation. The theological framework has emerged through the work and practice of Bruce Reed, John Bazalgette, Bruce Irvine, Jean Reed and Colin Quine of The Grubb Institute as well as Wesley Carr and Dick Herrick. The World Event is a result of a collaboration between Mary McRae, Steinhardt School of Education, NYU, Zachary Green, Director of the Embracing a World of Difference Conference, and Bruce Irvine of The Grubb Institute.

VI-RoleOfTheStaff
....................................................................................... The staff take up two specific roles in the conference: First, they act collectively as Management of the Learning Community. Thus, they assume the responsibility of managing boundaries in such a way that the participant members can co-create meaning and purpose in the system they are creating by getting involved in its various events. Collective management, of course, includes the administration. The way in which the Staff delegates roles and responsibilities among its members will be open to examination. Secondly, staff members intervene as consultants during the events. In this role, they offer their own perception and experience of the events while they are happening in the sessions, in order to promote learning and transformation.
