BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
IN MUSIC EDUCATION
The Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education is a professional degree for students who are interested in teaching music in K-12 schools in the ever changing music classrooms of the 21st century. Our degree program challenges and prepares future educators to not only embrace the traditions of music education, but also to incorporate new potentials that can reach additional populations of students interested in making music using alternative methods. This program is an intense study that provides students with state certification upon graduation. The program includes multiple opportunities teaching in k-12 schools and progresses towards a semester-long, studentteaching experience in the final semester.

BACHELOR OF MUSIC
The Bachelor of Music is a professional degree for students who wish to pursue a career in music. Students can choose between four areas of concentration: performance, composition (acoustic and electronic music), jazz studies and a brand new program in contemporary commercial music that will focus on rap/hip-hop, EDM and R&B. This program requires 120 credit hours that includes intense private study on a principle instrument and participation in ensembles. Additionally, students complete music theory, history and literature sequences, and take additional course work in their chosen area of concentration. Our grads find themselves in very competitive positions for musical careers and graduate study.
BACHELOR OF ARTS
IN MUSIC STUDIES
The Bachelor of Arts in Music Studies is a nonprofessional degree for students who wish to supplement other interests with music study. This program is ideal as part of a double major with a field outside of music.
Requirements include approximately 50 hours in music with emphasis choices in performance, composition, history and theory. Admission into the program requires an audition on your major instrument.
Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Commercial Music
The School of Music is excited to launch a new program in Contemporary Commercial Music in the Fall of 2022. This new program will concentrate on musical styles including rap/hiphop, EDM and R&B.
Students will be involved with performance, recording and producing and it will focus on how to successfully enter the contemporary world of music industries.
Master of Arts in Music Education

Students interested in the Master of Music (M.M.) degree can choose between concentrations in performance (all orchestral instruments, voice and piano), conducting, composition, electro-acoustic music, jazz studies, chamber music and piano pedagogy.
GRADUATE DEGREES
Ph.D. in Music Education
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in music education is a research-focused terminal degree in the field. At the University of South Florida, this program is intended for the aspiring pinnacle leader in music education research, teaching, and administration. The curriculum prepares the student to engage in original research in music education and related fields. In coordinating with faculty mentors, the student has great flexibility in designing a program that fits his/her interests and strengths. Admission requirement include an interview with the music education faculty and the submission of writing samples and GRE scores.
The energy of performing arts in the Tampa Bay area is lively and expands in numerous directions; in the form of concerts, theatrical plays and dance exhibitions.
Many locally run production companies and performance venues host everything from nationally touring festivals and productions to independent musicians, dancers, and performers. On the USF campus, the Yuengling Center regularly hosts musical events.
Tampa is also home to the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, which is the largest performing arts center in the Southeast. Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater and Mahaffey Theater in St.
Pete are other venues that also present dance performances, opera, the Florida Orchestra, traveling Broadway shows, and a variety of other professional performances.
