“CRUISIN’ AT THE SPEED OF FUN” Volume 23 Issue 1

January 2013

2012 was a year of change for the Mass Cruisers. We lost a great friend and avid cruiser, Bruce Waite, seen above with his signature Lincoln at Faneuil Hall. Our annual show was relocated to a much larger site to accommodate attendance which has grown every year. Rich Armando hopes we will outgrown this in about five years. The year in review begins on page 4. Left: Cruisers attended the May 13 South Shore Antique Auto Club’s annual Trading Bee at the Comcast Center in Mansfield. Right: Herb & Sandy Williams getting author Joe Hurley’s autographed Book at the October 6 & 7 1st Annual U.S. Route 6 Provincetown Cruise weekend.

Mass Cruisers newest member, Joshua Guzetti, is publisher of a new enthusiasts’ magazine, Median Magazine. Covering all things automotive in the Northeast, Median promises to be informative and entertaining. Page 9 provides details on Joshua’s new rag. We wish you all the best. Smoke ‘em if you’ve got ‘em”

Cruise Night at Patriot Place continued to set records , attracting thousands of great cars from all over New England. And you can’t beat the price of admission. Steve Huntington and his core group of faithful volunteers make this event a “must attend” for anyone with a cool ride.

We get all kinds of cruisers at our Thursday night cruises to keep the ladies entertained.

The Pawtucket Red Sox male mascot, Paws, really liked Bob Smith’s ’56 Ford Panel Delivery.

The October 27 Journey Forward Benefit Walk mini cruise-in car show supported by the cruisers’ own “Dirty Dozen”.

The Mass Cruisers participated in the 1st Annual U.S. Route 6 Providence to Provincetown weekend, launched through the initiative of 10 car clubs that conduct cruise and car show events

Guest Speakers Auto Body Supplies & Paint and Presta Car Care Products A great advatage about our clubhouse being on the mezzanine level above the new Bobby C. Speed Connection shop floor was that our guest speakers from the Auto Body Supplies and Paint (ABSAP) http://www.absap.com/ and Presta Car Care Products http://www.prestaproducts.com/ were able to set up their product displays below while we were enjoying sandwiches and conducting club business upstairs. And, oh yes, not having to lug all that equipment and product up and down stairs was great. Dave Pulsifer and Don Salvatore from ABSAP started things rolling by going over the range of Presta car detailing products they supply to the collision repair and restoration industry and is also now available to auto hobbyists. The major reason their products are preferred by the industry over the typical popular brands found in auto stores is they are water based and do not contain waxes, fillers or additives like silicone which will hide but not correct or repair auto finishes to a show quality shine that will last all season long. Fern Chapdelane, the Presta Rep., used a black painted hood covered with several surface abraded patches to demonstrate their 2 and 3 step cutting and polishing system products which are sold in kits. If you really didn't know much about detailing your car with a power buffing wheel, Fern demonstrated the proper techniques such that everyone, even the most experienced, could feel comfortable taking on their own detailing project at home. The most popular 2-step kit which has a $139 list price tag on it and includes the correct cutting and polishing pads and compounds looks like it could more than pay for itself when you consider how much it would cost to have your car properly detailed at a local shop. Additionally, the color coded system used with their products takes the guesswork that usually can result in trying to achieve show quality finishes. Products can be ordered on-line or through one of the local dealers like ABSAP in Wilmington, MA as well as others that can be found on the Prest website.

Dave Pulsifer also showed a POR 15 - like product from KBS Coatings with a 3 part oxygen block system, "The Rust Stops Here", that comes in different colors and will give that rusty frame an unbelievably gorgeous finish. Bobby C. has a couple of steel pipe samples coated with the KBS coatings so you can give it your best shot at seeing how tough and durable the finish is. Thanks to Bob Lepore who arranged for the guest speakers to Dave, Don, Fern and ABSAP Account Manager Luis Martinez who gave up their Tuesday evening to come out to the Norfolk wilderness and demonstrate their amazing car care products, and to Bobby C., who let us use his shop for the demonstration.

Meet Joshua Guzetti, new Mass Cruiser

Joshua Guzetti is our newest member and publisher of Median Magazine, which “focuses on the Northeast’s performance automotive scene showcasing the tuners, manufacturers, service companies and drivers that make it unique to the rest of the country”. Median Magazine covers a wide spectrum of auto-related issues, domestic and foreign makes, and has its own blog page. As Guzetti puts it: “Where would we be without car forums? Even with all the drama, they can still be a great source of information and a way to meet like-minded individuals”. Past issues have included a wide range of topics. Tuning up an old Tee, “With a wideband O2 sensor and dyno anything is possible!” How about 700 hp out of a Saturn Sky? Reports on Imperial Chevrolet’s show and coverage of restorations and custom fabrications offer those of us motor-minded with plenty of home-grown fodder. There is even a section dedicated to Reader’s Rides. Check out the web site, http://www.medianmag.com/ for more. You can also follow Median on Facebook and twitter.
