With every spring and the start of the outdoor cruise car show events we struggle dodging April showers and sudden wind shifts that bring cold east winds off the ocean and from our Canadian neighbors to the north. Last year we were dealt with several early season weather setbacks and but this year we did get off to a great start with the best opening cruise attendance ever at Patriot Place and the same happened for our annual Early Ford V8 Club’s spring tune-up cruise to the Fitchburg airport swap meet which enjoyed the most swap meet vendors and show cars I’ve experienced there. Weather, however, has not been so kind to many other of our fellow car clubs, so when the sun does shine and your cruising season juices flow, hop in the car and show up at one of the area cruises listed in “CRUIZN” page 5 and don’t forget to bring those car show and cruise flyers to pass out. Clubs need to support one another when the opportunity arises.
Another spring ritual is awaiting the annual Old Cars Weekly posting of their annual Golden Quill Award winners and our Newsletter Editor Paul Saulnier has taken home another one in 2014 to add to the growing display notebook in the clubhouse. We haven’t kept count, but I believe Paul has now exceeded the number of Awards that former editor Patrick Touhey and I had garnered over the years. Congratulations again Paul.
And, to Bob Hines, who wrapped up hosting the final cold season “Wrenchin’ n’ Coffee” monthly sessions at his Robert’s Automotive garage in Attleboro, a big thanks. Bob says he will do it all over again beginning in the late fall.
As my good friend TY is fond of saying; “Remember, Life's too short to drive boring cars !!! John

Wrenchin’ n’ Coffee Sessions by John Buchanan The final Saturday “Wrenchin’ n’ Coffee” session at Bob Hines Robert’s Automotive in Attleboro was the best yet for members getting their cars ready for the cruising and car show season. Patrick Touhey brought in his 1966 Plymouth Valiant to balance all four wheels and perform a front end alignment using the shop’s state of the art Hunter Hawkeye Elite system; Mark Creighton put all new disc brake pads on his daily driver GMC pickup; Diane Thornton did an oil & filter change and lube job on her 1966 Mustang as well as apply a decorative “bullet hole” cover-up a paint chip on the passenger side door; John Guravage had his 1967 Chevelle back in the shop to replace the alternator belt, Fred Tierney brought his 1966 T-Bird in to check the balance on the front tires and I put my 1931 Dodge up on the lift to replace two burned out exhaust collector gaskets with guaranteed-to-never-burn-out aluminum gaskets. The coffee and donuts were a bonus and we can’t thank Bob Hines enough for allowing club members to use his shop, lifts, equipment and tools these past three months. It was an educational experience for most of us with an extra salute to John Nunez whose mechanical skills and knowledge helped augment Bob’s with additional technical guidance and muscle for the work we were doing as well as all the other members that showed up each Saturday to lend a helping hand. Club members can show their thanks by helping support Bob when he and the South Attleboro Lions club put on their annual car show at LaSalette Shrine on August 23 as we have for the past few years.

First Cruise Night of the Season by John Buchanan Our inaugural Bass Pro Shops cruise at Patriot Place in Foxborough for the 2015 season must have affected all our winter weary New England cruisin’ friends because there were over 1200 cruise flyers passed out to the entering show cars, not including a half hour gap when the first box of 700 flyers ran out. Despite a mid-afternoon wind shift from the southwest to a more easterly breeze which resulted in temperatures falling five to 10 degrees, the sun shone brightly and donning warm jackets and sweatshirts kept everyone ecstatic about finally having great cruising weather. Patriot Place also cleared out all the snow last week and swept lots 14 & 16 clean of debris for this April 16 cruise.
Bass Pro Shops Camping Associate Tim Durand toured the field of cars and came away with his favorite for the Vintage Motorsports sponsored plaque, Ray Therrien’s Scarlet Red 1968 “W-30” optioned Olds 442 Coupe. This beauty was purchased three years ago from its previous Ohio owner, and needed only minimal detailing to bring it up to show quality judging standards. This isn’t the only 442 in his back pocket either. Ray also has a 1966 tri-carb version and another 1970 W-30 optioned 442. These are definitely not your father’s Oldsmobile’s, unless dad was a muscle car enthusiast that like to GO FAST. In addition to the plaque, all cruise winners this year receive 2 adult passes to the Hall at Patriot Place, dinner for two at the Blue Fin Lounge and a fudge sampler from Uncle Buck’s Fudge Shop, so dust off your best cruiser and CRUISE ON OVER to the bi-weekly Thursday Bass Pro Shops Cruise at Patriot Place on Historic U.S. Route 1 in Foxborough, MA.

26th Spring Daytona Turkey Run Peoples’ Choice Award by John Buchanan
Congratulations to the winners of the 26th Spring Daytona Turkey Run People's Choice Award! This 1940 Ford deluxe 4-door sedan was voted on by other show car participants as the winner. The owners of this beauty are Bob and June Smith from Attleboro, Massachusetts. The winning car has a 350 Crate motor, 700R transmission, Mustang two front end, power steering, power brakes, cruise control, heated air and bucket seats. It was swapped at the 2013 Fall Turkey Rod Run for his customized 1952 chevy. Bob and June belong to the Mass Cruisers Car Club held at the Patriots Stadium in Foxboro Stadium which host one of the biggest cruisers in Massachusetts. They said, "That is why we appreciate how well your organization is run." Bob and June have been coming to both shows, Spring and Fall since 1995. They appreciate the hard work that goes into organizing the show, buying the generous gifts we give away and they really enjoy the shuttles to get them from one place to another inside the infield. They said it was a great surprise and good feeling to win this award!
