“CRUISIN’ AT THE SPEED OF FUN” October 2015
Volume 25 Issue 10
S
eptember proved to be another great
month for Cruisers. With cost of high test down to where they were when we had hair on our heads instead of hats, Cruisers spread out all over New England and beyond.
O
ur cruise night schedule was adjusted thanks
to a Patriots game (they think they own the place) but that did not affect the turnout . The slick ‘53 Chevy Pickup above took home the honors on the 17th while the rare ‘63 Plymouth wagon was Brian Thompson’s favorite on the 24th.
Only a few Cruise nights left. Don’t be left out. Cruisers have put some serious miles on our rides this month. Mr. President probably has a few calluses where the sun don’t shine from his trip down Route 66.

Here is the info on this year’s Aurofest winners which were pulled for our yearlong drawing. Engine Themed Gas Grill……..Tom Gould of Westborough Ma. Sky King Tricycle...................Jack Ramey of Walpole Ma. 10x10 Pup Up Canopy…………..Bob Schwartz of Quincy Ma. Two important bills that can provide relief for hobbyists who are getting nailed with onerous state sales taxes for private vehicle sales were heard by the Joint Revenue Committee on July 21. Everyone who has purchased a basket case to restore for a few hundred bucks in a private non dealer sale suffered a state sales tax sticker shock when they went to transfer the title, only to learn later they were being hit with a NADA Black Book valuation of a restored vehicle that can be 10 to 100 times the vehicle’s actual cost or value. The Chapter 64 law, which was passed in 2009, does not allow for the condition of the vehicle to be considered in private sales and states that private vehicle sale valuation will be based upon market value of a clean trade-in or a bill of sale, whichever is greater. This only applies to private sales and not dealer sales. The problem is compounded for 25 year and older vehicles when dealer clean trade-in values for used car are no longer available and the state is allowed to use NADA Black Book auction valuations. This becomes particularly onerous for highly sought after collector vehicles like Woodie station wagons of any vintage and Marque or iconic models like the 1963 split window Corvette Coupe. House Bill 3514 would establish rules and regulations for vehicles 25 years and older based upon the condition of the vehicle at the time of sale instead of clean trade-in value. Senate Bill 1585 also attempts to correct the current practice of not recognizing notarized bills of sales for used vehicles in favor of NADA Black book values which are based upon collector car auction sales. What we need to do is to write or call our House Representative and State Senator https://malegislature.gov/People/ Search to have them support these two bills as well as the members of the Revenue Committee https:// malegislature.gov/Committees/Joint/J26 . If you have a state sales tax shocker story to share, include that in your testimony as these really have an impact on getting all our legislators behind supporting these corrective pieces of legislation.

Lady Cruisers Pages Corn and Avocado Salad by Diane Thornton (the
rave at Rick and Paula Lawlor's)
Yield: 12 servings Level: Easy Recipe courtesy of Ina Garten Ingredients Kosher Salt 4 ears of corn, shucked 4 ripe Hass avocados, seeded, peeled, and 1/2-inch diced Juice of 1 lemon 2 pints grape tomatoes, sliced in half lengthwise 2 red bell peppers, seeded and 1/2-inch diced 1 cup chopped red onion 1/4 cup seeded and minced jalapeno peppers, seeded 1 lime, zested 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice 1/4 cup good olive oil 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper Directions In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the corn for 3 minutes until the starchiness is just gone. Drain and immerse the corn in ice water to stop the cooking and to set the color. When the corn is cool, cut the kernels off the cob, cutting close to the cob, and place them in a large bowl. Toss the avocados with the lemon juice and add them to the bowl with the corn. Add the tomatoes, red peppers, onion, jalapeno peppers and lime zest to the bowl. Whisk the lime juice, olive oil, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, black pepper, garlic, and cayenne pepper together in a small bowl and pour over the vegetables. Toss well. Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

1952 Chevy pickup. 1 1/2 year frame off restoration by Mark (father) & Greg (son) Priest. It was the Dad's daily driver for some time and then put in garage. It has the straight 6, 3 on the tree, and the heater option. They come from Attleboro. Keiling in North Attleboro did the paint.
