Scholarship Statement
Southern Miss Business promotes a balanced academic portfolio of teaching, scholarship, and service. We aim to raise our research profile by supporting individual research productivity, facilitating a collaborative and engaging research culture, and encouraging faculty to develop expertise and take on research leadership roles. Our scholarship focuses on intellectual contributions that advance knowledge in our disciplines, understanding of applications of theory for organizational problems, and practices that influence teaching excellence, student success, and community development. Therefore, faculty are encouraged, supported, and rewarded for engaging in impactful scholarly endeavors, which include the following:
• Research engagement activities that reflect research growth, continuous learning, and developing areas of expertise

• Research collaboration and leadership activities that involve working with and leading others in the advancement of knowledge
• Research productivity that reflects dissemination of highquality research, including journal articles (assessed through acceptance rate of 35% or below, ISI indexing, recognized rankings lists, and other quality metrics), conference presentations, community development projects, etc.
To support these endeavors, Southern Miss Business
• Awards annual competitive summer research grants ($110,000) and research awards for faculty who contribute the most to raising the research profile of the College and University;
• Rewards faculty for publications in elite peer-reviewed journals in the promotion and tenure review process (where each elite journal article is counted as two publications); and
• Supports research-related workshops/training, student research initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
2022 Southern Miss Business Research Grant Recipients
• $54,000 was awarded in new faculty research support: Alison Fridley, Ke Gong, Kristina Harrison, Dana Hart, Allen Ryan, Bradley Winton.
• $56,102 was awarded through a competitive proposal review process: A. Banu Elmadag Bas, Chris Croft, Ali Dogru, Katie Howie, Srinidhi Kanuri, Shinhua Liu, Curtis Matherne, Chao Meng, Wei Wang, Reginald Wilson, Yuanyuan Zhang, Zikai Zhou.
In addition, several faculty members received other research-related awards and honors over the last academic year
• Kimberly Goodwin was awarded the Kinnard Young Scholar Award by the American Real Estate Society.
• Valerie Simmons completed her Ph.D. and was named 2022 Outstanding Ph.D. Student at Kennesaw State University.
• A. Banu Elmadag Bas was advisor of the Best Dissertation at Istanbul Technical University.
• Kimberly Goodwin and Srinidhi Kanuri were awarded the Best Paper Award by the Journal of Real Estate and Portfolio Management.
• Gallayanee Yaoyuneyong and Jamye Foster were nominated for the USM Research Advocate Award.
• Chris Croft was nominated for the USM Graduate Mentor of the Year Award.

Joanne Cao, Chris Croft, and Kimberly Goodwin were nominated. Kimberly Goodwin was selected as the award recipient.
