Artificial intelligence can shorten the time it takes to get a lead about a missing or exploited child to the right authorities.
Last year, the FBI reported 465,676 entries for missing children in the United States. Many of those children are fleeing their homes or the care of a social services agency. The non-profit organization serves as a clearinghouse for critical information to help find these children. The volume of tips is huge. Last year, the company received 8.2 million tips, which were only prioritized and reviewed by a team of 25 analysts. Some tips come from the detection of child pornography tagged with a technology called hashing, which helps track illegal images while streaming online among pedophiles. To help solve this problem, Intel offers high-power computing to make the tips more efficient and more manageable. Intel’s Chief Data Scientist Bob Rogers is spearheading the effort. Rogers explained how Intel uses sophisticated technology to find missing and exploited children. Bob Rogers: “We have created an enterprise data strategy that has enabled us to integrate literally hundreds of different databases and data sources. We modernize their IT infrastructure with a new architecture and help the new hardware company to process the cyber type. We accelerated their ability to spot the red flag in the picture. “ Question: The company receives incredible tips every day, and that volume is only expected to increase. What are the reasons for the increasing number? Bob Rogers: “The numbers are growing at once and it’s driven by these modern technologies. Electronic service providers are increasingly using AI to detect suspicious behavior, such as a chat log between an adult and a minor who has explicit sexual content. There is some AI in detecting child pornography, though the app is still very primitive. In the future, we hope to help the company host an innovation lab that will help tech companies create new AI tools to detect child pornography.
