History

It started with a need. In 1999, a shortage of Pharmacists in Nevada was occurring at the very same time that a groundswell of demand for pharmacy education was growing. So, our three founders, each com ing from healthcare, contributed $5,000 to start what is now Roseman University of Health Sciences. With this need came a desire to educate and train differently. To consider the varying learning styles young adults have. To develop content mastery and excellence. And so, the Roseman Six-Point Mastery Learning Model® was born. And graduates went on to exceed standards. To get excellent jobs. To see a return on their investment. To become compassionate and skilled caregivers.

Now, with our 20th Anniversary behind us, we look back on two decades of applying this foundation to a broad universe of healthcare education, developing innovative programs that train a diverse student body to be exceptional leaders in their chosen fields. We look ahead to the limitless promise of the future, in providing our communities unparalleled patient care, scientific discovery and commitment to im proving healthcare outcomes in our region and beyond. WHAT MAKES ROSEMAN DIFFERENT?

Breaking down barriers and increasing communication and partnership between student and teacher are at the core of success, proficiency and content mastery. Student-to-student collaboration develops healthcare professionals that work in teams so that the patient has the very best chance of a good outcome.

Our founders approached learning in a different way. They recognized that every student has a different learning style and that adult learners may need to be engaged differently. They also believed that every student can succeed and compete at a very high level if given the right tools and training to do so.

A system of assessment designed to “detect and correct” problems, thus ensuring achievement of high expectations by all students. We are com mitted to an assessment system that encourages and gauges progress toward the accomplishment of high academic standards by all students.

A curriculum that utilizes and is supported by technology. We believe that technology holds a remarkable potential to stimulate thinking and learning, as well as being an effective tool for ac quiring, evaluating and utilizing new knowledge.

A curricular design that stresses the importance of early exposure to the profession. We believe in building basic skills early by exposing students to early practice experiences.

An educational system that makes better use of time. We utilize the “block system” of curricular design, which provides students with the opportunity to study one content area intensely and master it without distractions from other subjects.

An educational experience that goes beyond mem orization of facts. We believe in the concept of deep learning and mastery of content that leads to under standing and the ability to apply knowledge and make wise decisions.

An educational experience that values and responds to the needs of students and encourages teamwork and communication. Our curriculum places a premium on active learning in a noncompetitive, collaborative environment.

Dr. Renee Coffman is president and co-founder of the Nevada College of Pharmacy, now Roseman Universi ty of Health Sciences. She previously served as the Uni versity’s Executive Vice President for Quality Assurance and Intercampus Consistency and the Dean of its College of Pharmacy. Prior to establishing Roseman University, Dr. Coffman became a founding member of the faculty at Western University of Health Sciences, where she also held the position of Facilitative Officer for Student Ser vices. While at Western, Dr. Coffman and four colleagues received Honorable Mention for the AACP Innovations in Teaching

Dr. Coffman isAwards.amember of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Pharmaceutical Asso ciation, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scien tists, The American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the International Federation of Pharmacy, as well as Phi Kappa Phi and Rho Chi Honor Societies and the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society.

Dr. Coffman serves on the Board of Directors for the Hen derson Chamber of Commerce and Las Vegas HEALS, a non-profit, membership-based association whose mis sion is to foster strategic alliances in the healthcare com munity, collaborating on workforce issues, and being a proactive force for legislative initiatives to improve access and the delivery of quality healthcare.

Dr. Renee Coffman

UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP FOUNDER & PRESIDENT,

Dr. Coffman has worked to support pharmacy, educa tion and improved healthcare through her work with the Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition, iDO (Improving Diabetes and Obesity in Southern Nevada), the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Medication Error Discussion Group and the Nevada State Board of Phar macy Committee on Standards for Approval of Pharma cy Technician Training Programs. Additionally, Dr. Coff man was instrumental in successful legislative efforts permitting pharmacists to perform finger-stick blood glucose testing.

In recognition of her community service in Southern Nevada, in 2008 she received the “Who’s Who in Health care” Award and the “Women of Distinction” Award, both sponsored by Greenspun Media Group. In 2012, she was named a “Distinguished Alumnus” by Ohio Northern University and in 2016 she was named one of  Nevada Business Magazine’s “Women to Watch.” She was named one of “Southern Nevada’s Women to Watch” by Green spun Media Group in 2017.

A licensed pharmacist in the state of Nevada, Dr. Coff man earned a Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University in 1987 and following graduation worked as a pharmacist in her hometown of Bucyrus, Ohio and in Pi qua, Ohio. In 1995, Dr. Coffman earned a doctoral degree in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue Univer sity, where she received the Kienle Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Jenkins-Knevel Award for Outstanding Graduate Research and was awarded an AAPE-AFPE Association Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2020, Dr. Coffman was named a Purdue University Dis tinguished Pharmacy Alumni Awardee.

In just two decades, Roseman University has become deeply embedded in the hearts and minds of our local community. We developed the first Pharmacy school in the state of Nevada, which today remains the only pharmacy school in the state. Over 7,200 graduates have crossed the stage to receive their diplomas since our inception. We are one of the largest employers in South Jordan, Utah. We have partnered with Cure 4 The Kids Foundation to provide over 50,000 patients with critical treatment, regardless of their ability to pay. We have provided countless children and families with free preventative healthcare and have educated our communities on critical healthcare topics and inspired a love of science in our children. We are making a difference, and we are just getting started.

Roseman University’s vibrant campus culture allows students, faculty and staff to learn and work in an atmosphere where they can grow both professionally and personally. Students have the opportunity to become active members and leaders of dozens of student organizations, allowing them to meet and foster lifelong colleagues through collaborative learning, community service and advocacy. Our expert faculty not only teach, they have opportunities to make discoveries and develop new innovations, working alongside students, both in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. Our campuses in Nevada and Utah offer an abundance of outdoor recreation, such as hiking, rock climbing, boating, camping, off-roading and world-class skiing and snowboarding in communities with a low cost of living, rich cultural opportunities, and a variety of entertainment. Located in a region indigenous to the University’s mascot – the charismatic Roadrunner – the scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, easy way of life and professional possibilities in Nevada and Utah give students, faculty and staff an environment where they can reignite their passions and achieve their goals.

ROSEMAN MEDICAL GROUP

Roseman Dental and Roseman Dental & Orthodontics, the clinical practices of Roseman University College of Dental Medicine, are located at our South Jordan, UT and Henderson & Summerlin, NV Campuses. Care at the Henderson, NV location is provided by resident dentists enrolled in our Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program and Advanced Education in Orthodontics and Dentofa cial (AEODO) Residency Program. Care at our South Jordan, UT location is provided by student dentists going through thorough training and education in our Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program and resident dentists enrolled in our Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program. Care at our Summerlin Campus focuses on treating the unique dental needs of children with childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases. Our facilities are state-of-the-art and utilize cutting-edge technology, ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care from a team of trained students, residents and faculty dentists and orthodontists.

Roseman Medical Group (RMG), the clinical practice of Roseman University’s College of Medicine, is located in the Las Vegas, NV area, and has a dedicated team of primary care physicians and specialists offering a wide range of primary care and specialty services including Neurology. RMG focuses on treating people of all ages, maintaining health and wellness, and treating illness and chronic diseases.

ROSEMAN DENTAL (UT) AND ROSEMAN DENTAL & ORTHODONTICS (NV)

Patient Care Roseman University of Health Sciences provides affordable, high-quality dental and medical care to the communities it serves. Care is provided to underinsured and uninsured patients inside and outside of the University’s clinics through community outreach events such as Back to School Brush-Up™️, medical missions abroad and rotations at various clinics.

Gifts and grants help provide vitally need ed scholarships for students in the College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Dental Medicine, College of Graduate Studies, as well as those who will enroll in the College of Medicine. Philanthropic support also ensures the means to create and sustain new educational programs and research initiatives by Roseman’s world-class faculty.
