COURT RESERVE (USPTA NATIONAL AND SOCAL SUPPORTER!)
As a sports facility owner or manager, your ultimate goal is to make money. In today’s digital age, it’s more important than ever to be automated and understand your finances and revenue well. One way to do this is by allowing credit card payments at your facility.
At CourtReserve, we often hear that facilities want to make more money but avoid taking credit cards because of the fees. The truth is, by not accepting credit card payments, you’re missing out on revenue. Not only that, but you’re also
COURT RESERVE (USPTA NATIONAL AND SOCAL SUPPORTER!)
adding more manual processes, which can lead to more errors and lost income.
Here are some reasons why you should consider collecting payments through an online platform like CourtReserve: Nowadays, players want convenience and ease of paying for things they sign up for. By allowing them to pay online, you’re making it more convenient for them to sign up for classes, lessons, and reservations. Consider selling packages of lessons or classes so your credit card transaction fees are reduced. For your facility members, consider a monthly invoice

where you charge their card on file once per month for all of the previous month’s charges. Invoicing or batch billing allows you to pay the credit card transaction fee (usually $.30 per transaction) once instead of every time your players buy a can of balls or pay for a class! You’re missing out on revenue if you’re still collecting checks and cash.
Paying online reduces manual errors and processes: Let’s face it, manual processes can often lead to mistakes and lost revenue. The honor system or paper tickets are a
COURT RESERVE (USPTA NATIONAL AND SOCAL SUPPORTER!)
manual nightmare! How often have you forgotten to go to the bank, and now all the checks to deposit are in your car or home? By having your players pay online, you’re reducing the chances of manual errors and keeping your reporting and revenue tracking up to date in real time. Here’s a real case study for you!
Nine court city municipality in Southern California was on pen and paper. The honor system box was supposed to collect the annual membership dues and guest fees. When revenue continued declining, but players increased, this facility
COURT RESERVE (USPTA NATIONAL AND SOCAL SUPPORTER!)
decided to become digital and use CourtReserve. In just one year, they increased guest fee revenue by $10,000! They increased membership dues by over $100,000 and didn’t raise their pricing. Now members had to pay online and have an active membership to book a court. Operational revenue going to the club increased by 2,675%. It went from $6,140 in 2020 to $170,422 in 2022, allowing this facility to make new facility improvements like court lighting, windscreens, and more!
COURT RESERVE (USPTA NATIONAL AND SOCAL SUPPORTER!)
In conclusion, if you want to drive revenue and save money, consider moving towards becoming a cashless sports facility with CourtReserve. By allowing credit card payments, you’ll reduce the chances of manual errors and missed revenue opportunities, saving time for your staff and players. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help you drive revenue and grow your sports facility.

Dee Henry, USPTA, A Tribute
By Simon Paek, Regional Vice PresidentThe Inspirational, Southern California Tennis Icon, Dee Henry’s passing left a huge void in our tennis community and beyond. The SoCal Division is so grateful of her service and even more grateful for her presence in accepting

her USPTA Pete Brown

Our condolences to her family and to all whose lives have been so positively impacted by her over her incredible career as a coach, mentor and friend to countless of us…
Dee Henry has been a long time USPTA
Professional and Colligate Coach at Biola University for 49 years.
REGIONAL VP SIMON PAEK
Although retired from college coaching, she is busier now, serving as President of the La Mirada CTA where she and her group focus their attention on Wheel Chair Tennis as well as Serving Challenged Athletes.
The La Mirada CTA was only founded in 2019, but that doesn’t mean that’s when her service started. The idea of Wheel Chair Tennis for Dee was first thought up
REGIONAL VP SIMON PAEK
back in the 60’s. When asked by a family member how long she intended to play tennis – her response was “until I’m in a wheel chair” – can you say light bulb moment!
Then in ’78 is when the real work of wheel chair tennis for Dee started taking shape. Her inspiration was at a Vic Braden Wheel Chair Tennis Camp where she met the infamous Mr. Brad Parks. From that
REGIONAL VP SIMON PAEK
point there was no looking back. Then in 1990, the Inter Collegiate Coaches Association mandated that coaches find a way to give back, since then, she has done weekly wheel chair clinics, tournaments, etc.
Dee also has close ties with the Special Olympics where she is a tournament Director running events at Biola as well as La Habra Tennis Center.

*RESOURCES FOR YOU*
Greetings USPTA SoCal!
In recent months, I have received several requests for more teaching tips and content in our newsletter. Therefore, I thought I would include a simple yet effective evaluation template that I use for both my juniors and college players. I identified 20 categories related to a player’s game

that include something as specific as their forehand, to something broader like their footwork. I recommend giving your players the evaluation first, followed by your assessment of each of category, and then you can total the numbers between the two for an overall player/coach score. Once the objectives

goals, and learning outcomes.
The “importance” category is something that the pro can fill out before or after the player evaluation. The numbers listed below are just an example of what the pro deems as more important than a different category.
Listing all 10s is fine, (continued)

but I think it’s also helpful for the player to see what the pro views as a “10” and what they view as very important (“9”) or important (“8”).

“Pickleball is very community based and the inclusivity of the sport allows an easy way to enter the sport and play the game and the community gets very big fast. It’s just very inclusive, people from all ages can play, you can have your family all play – it doesn’t take intensive training to go out and play… it just gives you a variety of options, you can do it with friends or people that you just meet.” - Julio Rivera

I was presented with the Star Award. I am a United States Air Force veteran myself and started this program in September 2021 in collaboration with the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. I reached out to a recreational therapist at the VA who helped inform veterans about the weekly clinic, which is free of charge to the participants and their spouses. The program also acts as a mentoring program for local middle school and

Hello District 6 Pros,
I hope your summer is going well.
I would like to congratulate two USPTA members from District 6 who received awards at the USPTA Southern California

Division Conference for their outstanding achievements and contributions to Orange County tennis players and pros.
Chris Ketcham who is the Head Tennis Coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa received the College Coach of the Year Award. His woman’s’ team was 21-1 and won the Orange Empire Conference this year and the men’s team was 12-7.
TIM LUDEKE
Steve Riggs, former Director of Tennis for the City of Irvine, received the District 6 Pro of the Year award for all of the hard work he does running UTR Junior Team Tennis, junior tournaments, and running the 12th Annual OCCTA Tennis Seminar this year. One hundred and twelve pros, coaches, and parents attended this year.
TIM LUDEKE
I will be hosting another District 6 Event on September 11. The theme of these events is “teaching strokes that are typically difficult to teach.” We will discuss and do drills to accelerate the learning process for the topspin serve. We will also work on slice backhands and one-handed backhand volleys. These shots are commonly very difficult for players with twohand backhands to hit well. We will have a collaborative discussion about how to accelerate the learning process for all of these shots. This event will be held at Magnolia Tree Park in Tustin from 11:00am until 12:30pm on September 11.
