Every coach has a unique professional journey. From the moment they first pick up a racquet to their last lesson as a pro, the topography of that journey often includes highs, lows, and diversions that lead them away from the sport and back many times throughout their career. This transient quality is what makes the job of a tennis pro so accessible for aspiring coaches of all ages. For USPTA Pro Trishna Patel of Ormond Beach, the game of tennis has sent her across the globe, given her an impressive university and corporate legacy, and provided her with the tools to shape the lives of many tennis players in Central Florida.

As a preteen, Trishna traveled from Mumbai, India to Bradenton, Florida for a two-week training camp at the late Nick Bollettieri’s tennis academy, now known as IMG Tennis. Post-grad life put a pause in Trishna’s tennis career, landing her a job working in New York City as an investment banker. “I stayed involved in the tennis scene in the city, but only on the recreational level,” Trishna informed me. “It was a great way to connect with other former collegiate players.” It wasn’t until after she and her then wife moved down to Florida with their son that Trishna considered switching gears and coaching professionally. She said, “I took it upon myself to get my USPTA certification. It had been a while since I was in a coach’s mindset, so I wanted to be up to date on the most modern coaching techniques. I learned so much from the certification process.” That’s music to our ears! Trishna began assisting with camps at Trails Racquet Club in Ormond Beach. When their Head Pro left the club, Trishna transitioned perfectly into the role. Aside from running the adult programming, she
