FROM THE
t n e d i Pres
O
n behalf of your USPTA National Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and National Staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2021 USPTA World Conference, the world’s largest gathering of tennis professionals and dignitaries in the world! We are genuinely excited to offer a stellar multi-day lineup of in-person education sessions, networking, and social events — our first since last year’s necessary virtual conference. I’m thrilled that we can meet faceto-face again at the beautiful Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. The venue is excellent for this year’s lineup and ensures that no one will run out of things to do. On Monday evening, from 5- 9 p.m., make sure to attend the world’s only tennis industry trade show. The USPTA will be hosting a dinner and Monday night football party, plus you can see firsthand what’s new in the tennis industry by visiting with our exhibitors. A special thank you to CEO John Embree, the USPTA National Board, and all attending USTA dignitaries for making this such a memorable week. I’d also like to recognize the National Staff and commend them for putting on another fantastic conference. The World Conference is one of the staff’s most significant projects every year, and they certainly haven’t disappointed in making this the premier event in the tennis industry. Be sure to download the USPTA World Conference app if you haven’t done so already. The app allows you to customize your schedule, receive notifications about updates and special offers, connect with other attendees, and more. Enjoy the conference. We are glad you are here. Viva Las Vegas, and Viva Tennis! Sincerely,
Feisal Hassan, USPTA President 2021 USPTA WORLD CONFERENCE

FROM THE
CEO F
ellow USPTA members, welcome to the fabulous Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino for the 2021 USPTA World Conference! Our Education Committee has worked hard to bring you an incredible lineup of 50-plus speakers who will introduce, discuss, and answer questions about a vast array of topics that I’m sure will enhance and impact your professional approach to tennis. We have a jam-packed schedule of first-rate speakers and events. Beginning this year’s program are two fabulous Specialty Courses on Sunday, “Coaching Female Players” and “The Spanish System for Developing Singles & Doubles Players.” For those that have elected to attend these Specialty Courses and paid the nominal registration fee, I am sure you will learn something new from these sessions. Monday starts off with a bang with talks from Katrina Adams and Dr. Jim Loehr, followed by our Merchandise and Trade Show. On Tuesday, we’ll host our General Membership meeting, and then on Tuesday evening, our popular USPTA division parties will take place. Wednesday will be equally memorable. In addition to some fascinating talks, there will be a Q&A with the legendary Stan Smith at 9:45 a.m., followed by the USPTA Awards Lunch from 12 to 2:00 p.m, when we honor those professionals who have contributed so mightily to grow the game during the pandemic filled 2020. We’ll also present two pros with their Master Professional certification and induct three outstanding members into our USPTA Hall of Fame. Thursday is another day brimming with top speakers, including Stacey Allaster and Allistair McCaw, and we close out the conference with a rooftop barbecue around the pool that evening. Don’t miss the opportunity to purchase books at the USPTA merchandise area by Katrina Adams, Jim Loehr, Stan Smith, and Allistair McCaw — and get them signed by the authors after they speak! I hope you all enjoy your week at our conference. Given the concerns about the health and well-being of everyone during these unprecedented times, please be respectful of your colleagues. If everyone follows the CDC guidelines and those of the hotel and the state of Nevada, we should be able to keep everyone safe. Finally, a most sincere thank you to all for your support of the USPTA! Following our 2020 Virtual World Conference, we appreciate you taking time away from your family and work to help us “elevate your standards as a tennis-teaching professional.”
Regards,
John Embree, USPTA CEO 2021 USPTA WORLD CONFERENCE

FROM
n i a t n u o m r e Int U
SPTA pros, presenters, and tennis industry conference attendees, it is with great pleasure that we welcome all of you back to Las Vegas for the USPTA 2021 World Conference. After a tough year in 2020, it’s so nice to bounce back like a tennis ball, fresh out of the can, as we reconvene amongst one another in our much-needed move back toward normalcy. We all experienced lots of ups and downs in the last eighteen months, at times feeling like we were playing in the early rounds on the slick grass courts of Wimbledon. Now it’s nice to feel like we are on a more stable footing as we proceed forward, with a return to some prior normals mixed in with many “new normals.” It’s so exciting to see such a star-studded group of presenters leading us into better times. I thank all of you for making an effort to come out to one of the premier destination spots of the Intermountain Division for this wonderful annual get-together. I wish to thank our Executive Director, Tom Van de Hey, for all he does in keeping our Intermountain Board on task and on point. A huge thanks also go to John Embree, Fred Viancos, Ramona Husaru, the World Headquarters, the national board, and all those involved in putting this conference together. There have been so many moving parts, so much to coordinate, and so many to accommodate. Terrific job by all of you! Have a great time, everybody, and remember, in this case, what happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily have to stay in Vegas, as we hope you have plenty to bring home with you to share with your tennis community.
Regards,
Andy Zodin, USPTA Intermountain President

Leading with Character Dr. Jim Loehr 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. At the end of your life, how are you likely to be remembered? Chances are that people won’t be praising your money, power, and status. Instead, the people you’ve impacted will remember you for your compassion and personal strength — in short, your character. Unfortunately, many leaders are unaware of their character shortcomings and blind spots that hold so many of us back from building the legacy we are capable of. Dr. Jim Loehr, as he reveals the most important character competencies that you can practice daily to transform your life and work.
About Dr. Loehr
Ballroom C Dr. Jim Loehr is a world-renowned performance psychologist, co-founder of the Johnson & Johnson Human Performance Institute, and author of 16 books. Dr. Loehr’s ground-breaking, science-based energy management training system has achieved worldwide recognition. From his more than 30 years of experience and applied research, Dr. Loehr believes the single most important factor in successful achievement, personal fulfillment, and life satisfaction is the strength of one’s character. He strongly contends that character strength can be built in the same way that muscle strength is built through energy investment.

Utilizing “What to Coach” & “How to Coach” Skills Craig Jones Sarah McQuade Steve Keller 2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. Think about excellent coaches. Picture these coaches working with an athlete or group of athletes. What is it that you notice them doing or saying that makes them and their coaching so unbelievably effective? Undoubtedly, they know their X’s and O’s, including a sound technical and tactical grasp of their sport. But what else sets them apart? One of the key skills is they ask great questions that challenge players to think and act for themselves and listen to their answers in order to deepen understanding. This on-court presentation will explore the art and architecture of questioning and how you can apply this to your coaching. It will challenge coaches to consider how effectively they use questioning to support player learning and development. It will help them identify opportunities to evolve what questions they ask and how they ask them.
