An Aggie is the nickname for a student at Utah State University (formerly the Utah Agricultural College pre-1957). “Aggies�comes from the word "agriculture" which was the primary interest of many students in those early years of the university. We like to think of "International Aggies" as Utah State University students from anywhere in the world (including the U.S.) who have an appreciation for the cultures around the globe!

Connecting Cultures Unlimited possibilities Utah state University Founded in 1888, Utah State University (USU) is in the top 3% of Carnegie Research Institutions , which is nationally and internationally recognized for its intellectual and technological leadership in land, water, space, and life enhancement. Global Perspective Utah State University takes pride in its history of global partnerships, international research, study abroad programs, and its diverse international student body. During recent years the University has made it a priority to build on this rich history. Set in a beautiful mountain environment, the Logan campus offers a vibrant community in which to study, perform research, engage in the arts and participate in a multitude of outdoor recreation opportunities. Faculty and students welcome the global perspective and seek to share their own experiences from their international studies, research, and/or service activities.

Logan, Utah Utah State University is located in the city of Logan, situated in Cache Valley, a semi-suburban and rural area of northern Utah with a population of approximately 100,000. Logan City has a population of about 50,000. The Cache Valley Logan community is a safe and friendly place to live. The surrounding area, including ski resorts, lakes, rivers, and mountains, makes Northern Utah one of the finest recreational environments in the United States.

Global engagement The Office of Global Engagement oversees and facilitates the globalization of our USU student body, the offering of study abroad experiences for all students, and the internationalization of the curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Career paths of our students benefit from the cultural competencies gained through international exposure during their USU experience.

Admissions The following fees, documents, and information should be submitted to The International Students & Scholars Office four months prior to the beginning of the semester for which an international student wishes to be considered for admission (January 15, summer semester; April 15, fall semester; September 15, spring semester):

1. Submit a completed International Student Application with a US $75 nonrefundable application fee. Applications submitted after the deadline will be charged an additional US $15 nonrefundable late fee. 2. Official transcripts and certificates or certified true copies for each secondary school, college, and university attended with official English translation of all documents. 3. International students are required to provide

evidence that they have adequate funding available for their USU study before they can apply for a student visa.

intensive english language institute EXPERIENCED FACULTY IELI faculty are professionals trained in modern methods of language teaching. All faculty have master’s and/or doctorate degrees in English as a Second Language (ESL) or a closely related field. A QUALITY PROGRAM ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS The IELI curriculum consists of English for Academic Purposes classes which will prepare students to be successful in the university. There are four levels of instruction, from high-beginning to advanced. Each level takes one 15-week semester (or one 10-week summer session) to complete. Students take the IELI placement test at the beginning of the semester and are placed at a level which best fits their English abilities. Full time students in IELI have at least 18 class-hours weekly. Level 1 students (high-beginning) will require four semesters to complete the program. Other students will require less time, depending on their initial level of placement. Students who wish to obtain a graduate or undergraduate degree at Utah State University may begin their degree after successfully completing the Intensive English Program. No TOEFL is required.

The Intensive English Language Institute (IELl) is an Academic English as a Second Language program, which is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. IELl is also a member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) and UCIEP: a Consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs.

Study Abroad Office offers a wide range of affordable programs providing USU students with opportunities for study throughout the world. Through partner institutions or consortiums, students can study at more than 140 universities in more than 40 countries worldwide during a semester, academic year, or summer program. In addition, these programs provide opportunities for USU to host international students from exchange partner institutions to study at USU for one or two semesters.

Faculty led Faculty at USU take students to varied destinations every year for courses taught in English, while students earn USU credit for the experience. In addition, summer faculty led language programs also offer a great opportunity to build language skills in the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

affiliated programs Further expansion of short-term, summer, or semester-long study opportunities is possible with the addition of the following USU affiliated program providers: GlobaLinks: AsiaLearn, AustraLearn, and EuroLearn; Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), International Studies Abroad (ISA), Middlesex University (England), School for International Training (SIT), and SAI Programs.

The International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) is one of the most varied study abroad exchange consortium opportunities at USU. Through ISEP, students may study in Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. In most locations, students can study in English and/or courses taught in the native language. Global academy

The English Immersion Program The English Immersion Program is a 4 or 8 week summer program, which includes academic English language instruction and community interaction. The courses are taught by graduate instructors currently enrolled in the Master’s for Second Language Teaching at Utah State University. Participants will enhance their English language competency in classes, through interaction with the community, and opportunities to experience U.S. life and culture. A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required but is preferred.

Housing Our housing arrangement provides a safe, comfortable place for our students. Participants will stay in a dormitory shared with students from other countries. This provides the opportunity for participants to practice their English skills and to learn about other cultures. Basic kitchen supplies, linens and a meal allowance will be provided as part of the cost of the program.
