It's not surprising for Dr. Podgorski to be described in this way because, in his own words, he "deeply respects the craft of teaching." He approaches his craft by following several basic principles: respect your students; clear thinking is a valuable skill that is improved with practice; teach what's relevant and current; the instructor remains a st udent; judi c iously applied, teaching technologies are valuable; and, there's more to life than science. By implementing these principles, Professor Podgorski delivers courses that are both excellent and challenging, and he lends that expertise and enthusiasm as he contributes to biology textbooks and manuals that are used in universities and colleges across the nation. He has been a member of Biology at USU since 1988. In 1976, he received his bachelor's in Biology from St . Michael's College and both his master's in Biophysics and Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1979 and 1983, respectively. During 1983, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max-Plank Institute for Biochemistry in Munich, Germany, and he was a research associate from 19841988 at Columbia University in New York City, N.Y.
