Utah State University Cooperative Extension offers a variety of programs to help with home and family life. Online resources, course series and one-on-one consultations address the unique needs and issues of each home situation and family relationship. Utah State University Cooperative Extension offers the tools and expertise to make the most of financial resources, whether it is balancing a budget, buying a home or planning for retirement. Family and consumer sciences agents and specialists are devoted to making finance and consumer life education available to every citizen in Utah. Classes and workshop series are offered year-round throughout the state to help people improve their money management practices and develop organization in handling finances, so personal and family financial worries can be left behind. USU Cooperative Extension also offers help to conserve energy, shop wisely, be a savvy consumer and live a sustainable life. Our Food, Nutrition and Health programs are designed to help Utah citizens make the most of their time, money and food. Nutritious meals and an active lifestyle are the keys to good health for people of all ages. Whether it is learning to prepare quick meals for the week or how to preserve the summer’s harvest so it lasts all winter, Extension has a class. Class schedules and topics vary from county to county, so check extension.usu.edu for current schedules. Extension also has a large library of online publications and instructional videos to help with cooking, nutrition and food preservation basics.

Utah 4-H offers youth programs in every county throughout Utah, provided through Utah State University Cooperative Extension offices. Thousands of youth in Utah participate in 4-H youth programs every year. Utah 4-H youth programs are part of a network of 6 million young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Nine thousand volunteers provide the framework for Utah 4-H youth programs, and USU Cooperative Extension is always looking for dedicated and responsible volunteers who want to share their time and talents with young people. Gardening and landscaping are extremely popular in Utah and, in many ways, are the main connection with agriculture and the surrounding natural world. USU Cooperative Extension offers an extensive catalog of publications on almost every aspect of landscaping and gardening. Demonstration gardens are located in several areas around the state where gardeners can see plants and landscaping techniques before trying them at home. These include the Utah Botanical Center in Kaysville, the Ogden Botanical Garden in Ogden and Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
