HIGHLIGHTS
FROM THE CANYONS TO THE STARS After French composer Olivier Messiaen visited Southern Utah’s magnificent red rock country in 1972, he was inspired to write Des canyons aux étoiles, a work he described as “above all a religious work…of praise and contemplation.” Feel what Messiaen felt in our beautiful state with 12 movements—ascending from the canyons, to the skies, to the stars, and to heaven (symbolized by Zion National Park)—paired with music inspired by the natural world from Beethoven, Holst, Respighi, and others.
