¢ Tennessee won its first bowl game since the 2008 Outback Bowl as the Vols dominated Iowa, 45-28, in the 70th TaxSlayer Bowl on Jan. 2, 2015 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. The victory gave the Vols their first winning season since 2009 as Tennessee closed the campaign with a 7-6 record in Butch Jones’ second season on Rocky Top. ¢ The win came in Tennessee’s 50th bowl game, fourth-most of any program in college football history as the Vols are now 26-24 overall in postseason. The 26 wins are the sixth-most of any program all-time. ¢ Tennessee scored its most points in a bowl since beating Michigan 45-17 in the 2002 Citrus Bowl. The 45 points are the second-most in a bowl in Tennessee history. The six touchdowns scored by the Vols ties the school record for most touchdowns in a bowl game, previously set on three occasions at the 1994 Gator Bowl, 1997 Citrus Bowl and the 2002 Citrus Bowl. ¢ Quarterback Joshua Dobbs completed his first seven pass attempts of the game and finished 16of-21 for 129 yards with one passing touchdown. He also ran for 76 yards and an additional two scores on the ground. Dobbs finished with 205 total yards and moved to 4-1 as the team’s starting quarterback this season. ¢ After a stellar performance, Dobbs was named the TaxSlayer Bowl MVP. With two rushing touchdowns, Dobbs became the first Tennessee quarterback to record multiple rushing touchdowns since Casey Clausen did so with two in the 2002 Citrus Bowl. ¢ Tailback Jalen Hurd ran for 122 yards, the most by a Vol in a bowl game since Travis Henry ran for 180 in the 2001 Cotton Bowl against Kansas State. Hurd scored two rushing touchdowns in the same game for the first time in his career as he gained the fourth 100yard game of his freshman campaign. ¢ Receiver Von Pearson had a career-best seven catches for 75 yards including a 19-yard score to end the first half. His seven catches were the most in a bowl since Gerald Jones had nine in the 2010 Music City Bowl vs. North Carolin

COACHING STAFF CHANGES
¢ Mike DeBord was named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Vols on Feb. 6, 2015, replacing Mike Bajakian, who was hired as the quarterbacks coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. ¢ A veteran of 30 years of coaching experience on the offensive side of the ball, DeBord spent five seasons coaching in the National Football League, including three with the Chicago Bears (2010-12) and two with the Seattle Seahawks (2008-09). He has also spent a total of 12 seasons on the Michigan coaching staff from 1992-99 and 2004-07, with the Wolverines appearing in bowl games in all 12 of those seasons, including three consecutive New Year’s Day bowl victories from 1997-99. DeBord has spent the last two years in athletic administration at Michigan. ¢ Michigan posted a 52-11 (.825) record during DeBord’s two stints as offensive coordinator, from 1997-99 and 2006-07, and the 1997 edition of the Wolverines won the national championship, led by quarterback Brian Griese. For his efforts during that championship season, DeBord was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year by The Sporting News. ¢ Tennessee also announced wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni and running backs coach Robert Gillespie received promotions on Feb. 6, with Azzanni named passing game coordinator and Gillespie assuming recruiting coordinator duties for the Vols.
MOST RETURNING STARTS
¢ The Vols will continue to be one of the youngest teams in the nation in 2015 with the influx of freshmen and sophomores making an impact, but Tennessee will also be an experienced team. ¢ According to Phil Steele, with 18 returning starters on offense and defense, the Vols are tied for the most returning starters in the nation among Power 5 teams, along with UCLA and Vanderbilt. The Vols return 10 starters on offense (losing only tackle Jacob Gilliam) and eight starters on defense (losing cornerback Justin Coleman, linebacker A.J. Johnson and defensive end Jordan Williams). ¢ The 10 returning starters on offense equals for the most among any team in all of FBS. ¢ CFBMatrix lists the Vols as having the most returning total starts (240) among all SEC schools with 123 on offense and 117 on defense. That ranks ahead of Vanderbilt (236), Kentucky (215), Ole Miss (207) and Arkansas (207).
MID-YEAR ADDITIONS
¢ For the second year in a row the Vols will have double-digit mid-year additions to the roster. In 2015, Butch Jones welcomes 10 newcomers, who joined the program in January that includes nine true freshman and junior college transfer Alvin Kamara. The 10 have participated in off-season workouts and will be a part of the spring roster. 6

¢ Tailback Jalen Hurd drew his first start vs. Florida (10/4), giving the Vols five true freshmen starters on offense. He started along with Josh Malone, Jashon Robertson, Coleman Thomas and Ethan Wolf. Prior to that, the last time the Vols started five true freshmen on offense in a game was the 2010 Music City Bowl, when the Vols lost to North Carolina in Nashville on Dec. 30, 2010. ¢ The Vols started three true freshmen on offense and defense and one on special teams in their 2014 season opener vs. Utah State (8/31): RG Jashon Robertson, DE Derek Barnett, TE Ethan Wolf and PK Aaron Medley. ¢ The last time Tennessee started three true freshmen on offense and defense in a season opener was in 2011 as current Vols CB Justin Coleman, LB A.J. Johnson and LB Curt Maggitt all started vs. Montana. ¢ Robertson became the fourth true freshman to start on the offensive line in a season opener in Tennessee history. The previous true freshmen starters on the line were: Bill Mayo (1981), Michael Munoz (2000) and Ja’Wuan James (2010). ¢ Wolf became the first true freshman to start at tight end since freshmen became eligible in 1972 in a season opener. ¢ Barnett was the first true freshman to start a season opener on the defensive line in history as well. In 1984, Darrin Miller started as a redshirt freshman at middle guard on the defensive line as the last freshman to draw a nod in an opener.

YOUNG AT HEART
¢ Coming into the season, Tennessee was the only team in the nation that did not return a starter on the offensive AND defensive lines. The team with the next fewest was Colorado State (2). The next fewest in the SEC was Georgia (4). ¢ The Vols were also the only team in the nation not to return a starter on the offensive line. ¢ UT returned a combined total of 14 starts on the offensive and defensive lines, also fewest in the nation. ¢ The Vols returned just six total starts on the offensive line with Marcus Jackson starting five in 2012 and Mack Crowder with one last season. That was the least in the country. The next lowest total for returning starts in FBS was Penn State (20). The second fewest in the SEC was Alabama (37). ¢ The Vols returned just eight total starts on the defensive line, all made by Jordan Williams over the past two seasons. Only Colorado State (3) had fewer.
260 IN A ROW
¢ Tennessee has not been shut out for a span of 260 games dating to a 31-0 loss to Florida on Sept. 17, 1994. The streak is the fourth longest active one in the nation after Michigan saw its record 365-game streak come to an end at Notre Dame on Sept. 6, 2014. Tennessee’s streak is the tenth longest in college football history.
REVIEW
¢ Tennessee played a school-record 21 true freshmen in its opening win against Utah State. That smashed the previous record for most true freshmen to play in an opener. In both 2010 and 2011, the Vols played 12 true freshman. The Vols also played 10 or more true freshman in the opener seven times, all since 1996. ¢ Following the 21 true freshmen who played in the opener, a 22nd made his debut in the Arkansas State game. Jakob Johnson appeared in the second game.
