WEEK 1 NOTES (KSU CLASSIC) ¢ Tennessee went 4-0 from Feb. 6-8 with wins over Ohio, Dayton, Kennesaw State and Northern Kentucky in the KSU Classic. UT outscored it opponents by a combined score of 42-7 with three of the four wins coming by way of run rule. The Lady Vols hit .354 as a team last weekend while their pitchers limited opponents to a .181 batting average. ¢ With a 5-0 win over Ohio on Feb. 6, Tennessee improved to 13-7 all-time in season openers and 11-3 under the direction of Ralph Weekly and Karen Weekly in the first game of the year. ¢ Rainey Gaffin hit a grand slam in Tennessee’s 9-0 (5) rout of Dayton on Feb. 6 ,2015. It was Tennessee’s first grand slam since Madison Shipman drove in four on one swing against South Carolina on March 21, 2014. ¢ Taylor Koenig enjoyed an outstanding opening weekend, hitting .667 (6-for-9) with two homers, two doubles, 10 RBIs, five runs, a 1.556 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base mark. Rainey Gaffin hit .429 with two homers and seven RBIs. ¢ Scarlet McSwain hit her first collegiate home run in Tennessee’s win over Northern Kentucky, crushing a three-run blast to center field in the second inning. ¢ Gretchen Aucoin earned two of UT’s wins, posting 10 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA over 8.1 frames. WEEK 2 NOTES (USF PRESIDENT’S DAY WKND TOURN) ¢ Tennessee went 5-0 at USF’s President’s Day Weekend Tournament in Tampa, Fla., with wins over Fordham, Florida Gulf Coast, USF, Detroit and St. John’s. UT posted three shutouts and outscored its opponents by a margin of 46-2. The Lady Vols also posted three runrule victories for the second-straight week. ¢ The Lady Vols hit .356 as a team and the pitchers combined for a 0.47 ERA while limiting opponents to a .146 batting average. ¢ Tory Lewis was on fire in Tampa, hitting .667 (6-for9) with one homer, one double, one triple, four RBIs and seven runs. TENNESSEE WEEK-BY-WEEK NOTES PRESEASON NOTES ¢ Tennessee started the season at No. 13 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and at No. 14the ESPN.com/ USA Softball Top 25 Poll, marking UT’s 12th-straight season opening play as a ranked team. ¢ The Lady Vols went 46-12 in 2014 and played in its seventh NCAA Super Regional. The Lady Vols collected just about every major award in collegiate softball in 2014 and return 2014 NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Co-Winner and All-American Annie Aldrete. Tennessee’s 2015 roster features 10 returning veterans and eight newcomers. ¢ Sophomore catcher Annie Aldrete, the 2014 NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Co-Winner, was named to the USA Softball Top 50 “Watch List” for national player of the year and also earned Preseason All-SEC honors. ¢ Tennessee was picked to finish eighth in the SEC Preseason Coaches Poll.

¢ Tennessee combined for nine home runs over the five games at USF Softball Stadium with Rainey Gaffin, Taylor Koenig and Megan Geer knocking two each. ¢ Gretchen Aucoin went 3-0 with a 0.91 ERA, fanning 21 batters over 15.1 innings. Erin Gabriel was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 10.0 frames. Gaffin tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. WEEK 3 NOTES (MARY NUTTER COLLEGIATE CLASSIC) ¢ Tennessee went 2-3 from Feb. 19-21 in Cathedral City, Calif., with wins over No. 23 Notre Dame and No. 8 Florida State and losses to No. 20 California, Utah and Nebraska. UT scored 17 runs over those five games while giving up 15 runs. Mistakes plagued the team in its losses as the Lady Vols committed eight errors on the week. ¢ Taylor Koenig hit two home runs for the thirdstraight weekend, going 4-for-14 with two solo blasts and six RBIs. ¢ Meghan Gregg connected for her first collegiate home run in UT’s loss to Utah, smacking a solo home run in the fifth inning to get Tennessee on the scoreboard. ¢ Erin Gabriel went 1-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 11 strikeouts over 13.1 innings. Rainey Gaffin was 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA and eight K’s over 11.0 frames. Gretchen Aucoin went 0-2 with a 3.28 ERA and four strikeouts in 10.2 innings. WEEK 4 NOTES (TENNESSEE CLASSIC - CANCELLED) ¢ Tennessee’s 2015 home opener vs. Georgia Tech on Feb. 24 was cancelled due to weather. Snow and icy conditions in Knoxville also forced UT to cancel the Tennessee Classic, which had scheduled games against Murray State, Furman and Bradley. WEEK 5 NOTES (TENNESSEE INVITATIONAL) ¢ Tennessee went 5-0 in the Tennessee Invitational with wins against Northern Iowa, North Dakota State, Indiana State (twice) and Purdue. ¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly recorded her 900th career victory with Tennessee’s 14-3 (5) rout of North Dakota State on March 7. She became the 42nd NCAA coach to reach that milestone. Karen also became the 6th coach to reach 900-careerwins mark while coaching at an SEC school, joining Yvette Girouard (Louisiana Lafayette 1981-2000, LSU 2001-11, Ralph Weekly (Pacific Lutheran 1986-94, Chattanooga 1995-98, 2001, Tennessee 2002-pres), Joyce Compton (Missouri 1983-86, South Carolina 1986-2010), Jay Miller (Purdue 1980-81, Oklahoma City 1985-87, Missouri 19882002, Mississippi State 2003-11) and Lu Harris-Champer (Nicholls State 1996-97, Southern Miss. 1999-2000, Georgia 2001-pres). ¢ The Lady Vols hit .438 during their home tournament with seven players hitting .357 or better. Meghan Gregg and led the way, hitting an outstanding .688 (11-for-16) with four homers, two doubles, 13 RBIs and six runs. Megan Geer hit .500 with two homers, two doubles, 10 RBIs and five runs. Taylor Koenig hit .357 with three bombs and six RBIs. ¢ UT’s pitchers combined for a 1.04 ERA abd 41
strikeouts over 27.0 innings on the weekend. Erin Gabriel was sensational, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA with 19 strikeouts and one unearned run allowed over 10.1 frames. ¢ Meghan Gregg was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after hitting .688 (11-for-16) with four homers, two doubles, 13 RBIs and six runs. She had five multi-RBI games and four multi-hit games including three games with three RBIs. Gregg came through in clutch moments for UT this week, with a pair of game-winning extra-base hits. She had two home runs, including a walk-off in UT’s 5-4 win over Northern Iowa on March 7. She also had the game-winning two-RBI double to give Tennessee the win by run rule (8-0, 5 innings) over Purdue on March 8. The five-game hitting streak she established this week is her career long. ¢ Gregg is the first Tennessee player to earn conference weekly honors this season and this week’s honor marks the 13th time a UT rookie has won the award. The Williamson, Ga., native is UT’s first SEC Freshman of the Week since Annie Aldrete earned that honor on March 31, 2014. WEEK 6 NOTES (ILLINOIS STATE, SOUTH CAROLINA) ¢ Tennessee enjoyed a pair of dominant wins over Illinois State on Tuesday. The Lady Vols scored a seasonhigh 19 runs, Lexi Overstreet smashed a grand slam and Annie Aldrete hit two home runs in a 19-3 (5) Game 1 win. Erin Gabriel threw a 16-strikeout, seven-inning no-hitter (UT’s 46th all-time). ¢ Gabriel’s Game 2 no-hitter vs. Illinois State was the first UT no-no to go seven frames since Monica Abbott shut down Texas A&M on May 31, 2007. Her 16 Ks were also the most in a Tennessee no-no since Abbott rang up 16 in that same game against the Aggies. ¢ UT’s 19 runs in the Game 1 win vs. Illinois State were its most since scoring 19 against Tennessee State on April 2, 2013. The Lady Vols’ 17 hits in the game were its most since racking up 18 against Texas A&M on April 12, 2014. ¢ Tennessee went 1-2 at South Carolina to open SEC play. Gretchen Aucoin had the best weekend in Columbia, hitting .778 average (7-for-9), three homers, eight RBIs, a 1.889 slugging percentage and a .833 on-base mark. ¢ South Carolina won Game 1 (3/13), 8-0 (6), ending Tennessee’s 28-game winning streak against the Gamecocks and marking the first time UT had been run ruled since June 6, 2010, when the Lady Vols lost to Arizona, 8-0, in five innings in the Women’s College World Series. ¢ The Lady Vols fell to the Gamecocks, 7-6 (9), in Game 2 (3/14). The loss marked UT’s first extra-inning contest since falling to Oklahoma, 5-3, in 12 frames on June 4, 2013, in Game 1 of the 2013 Women’s College World Series Championship Series. ¢ UT ended Week 6 with a 9-1 (5) win in Game 3 (3/15) against South Carolina. Aucoin hit her third homer of the weekend and she, Annie Aldrete, Rainey gaffin and Lexi Overstreet had two RBIs apiece.
