» Sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller has 2,341 career assists entering the weekend. She ranks seventh in the Tennessee record books.

LADY VOL NOTES WHAT A MILESTONE

¢ With her first dig of the second set at Texas A&M last Friday, junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson became the fifth Lady Vol in program history to eclipse the 1,000-mark in career kills and digs. ¢ Robinson, who notched her 1,000th career kill in a five-set win at LSU (10/10) earlier this season, joins Tennessee greats Nikki Fowler, Kristy Dobson, Stephanie Ehlers and Sonja Thomas in the exclusive club. ¢ Just a junior, Robinson reached the 1,000/1,000 mark in both categories in just 79 matches. Below is a chart of the five club members: UT’S 1,000-KILL & 1,000-DIG CLUB Player (Yrs) Kills (Rk.) Digs (Rk.) Nikki Fowler (2007-10) 1,649 (4th) 1,281 (6th) Kristy Dobson (1988-91) 1,454 (7th) 1,474 (2nd) Stephanie Ehlers (1985-88) 1,394 (8th) 1,312 (5th) Sonja Thomas (1991-94) 1,346 (9th) 1,012 (11th) Kelsey Robinson (2010-Pres) 1,056 (16th) 1,016 (11th)

SCARY GOOD IN OCTOBER ¢ In 2012, the Lady Vols possess a perfect 5-0 record in the month of October entering the weekend. While November and December represent the home stretch and the championship portion of the college volleyball season, October is the heart of it. ¢ Dating back five seasons through the 2008 campaign, the Lady Vols are an impressive 36-8 in the month

28

of October and has used the 31 days to help propel themselves into four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. ¢ Over the five-match win streak, Tennessee has outperformed its opponents in every statistical category. The Lady Vols have out-killed (14.3 K/s-12.8 K/s), out-hit (.244-.174), out-passed (13.6 A/s-11.8 A/s), out-aced (.9 A/s-.5 A/s), out-dug (18.7 D/s-17.2 D/s) and out-blocked their opponents (2.60 B/s-2.57 B/s) during the stretch. ¢ Sophomore Tiffany Baker has led the offensive attack during the streak, compiling a team-high 82 kills and hitting a team-best .313. Defensively, junior libero Ellen Mullins anchors the back row, averaging an impressive 5.48 digs per set.

TENNESSEE IN THE RPI ¢ The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the 2012 campaign was released recently with the Lady Vols coming in at No. 27 in the nation. After defeating Mizzou and Georgia, UT jumped six spots to No. 21 in the second week of the RPI rankings and went up three more spots after posting wins at LSU and Arkansas to No. 18. Following their win at Texas A&M, the Lady Vols jumped two more spots to No. 16 in this week’s RPI. ¢ Eight of UT’s 14 wins have come against top 75 RPI teams: Arkansas (25), Texas A&M (27), Wichita State (36), Iowa State (37), Colorado State (39), Mizzou (48), UGA (51) and LSU (70). ¢ In addition, all five of the Big Orange’s losses have come against top 50 RPI squads: Florida State (13), BYU

(15), Kentucky (20), Arkansas (25) and Missouri (48). ¢ The SEC has five teams in the top 30 and seven squads in the top 51 of the RPI rankings: Florida (10), Tennessee (16), Kentucky (20), Arkansas (25), Texas A&M (27), Missouri (48) and Georgia (51).

DEF. PLAYER OF THE WEEK... AGAIN ¢ After anchoring the Lady Vol defense to wins at LSU and Arkansas, Mullins was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week last week. She followed up her career-best 34-dig performance against Mizzou (Oct. 5) with 32 scoops at LSU on Oct. 10. It was the second highest total of her career as she became just the third Lady Vol to record at least two matches with 30 or more digs in a single season. ¢ On Oct. 14, she helped UT sweep Arkansas with 17 digs and a career-high four aces on the road and then added 18 in a three-setter at Texas A&M last week. ¢ Her 34 digs at Mizzou stands as the seventhhighest single-match total in school history and the second most in the 25-point rally scoring era. It was also the fifth highest total in the SEC this season. ¢ The Nashville native has started every match at libero for UT this season and upped her average to 4.25 digs per set. Mullins has posted 12 or more digs in all 10 conference matches this season and currently ranks seventh in the SEC in digs pet set. ¢ Mullins is looking to become the 13th Lady Vol to join the 1,000-dig club for her career. ¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee opened its campaign in the national rankings, came in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for UT, who concluded 2011 rated as No. 19. ¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic. ¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10. ¢ After opening their SEC slate 2-3, the Lady Vols dropped out of the top 25 on Oct. 1 for the first time in 17 polling periods and since September 2011. ¢ The 16-week stretch was the fourth longest in school history. UT had two stretches of 19-straight weeks (2009-11; 1982-84) and one stretch of 17 consecutive weeks (2004-05) in the poll. ¢ After entering the rankings at No. 24 on Nov. 30, 2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling periods in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season. ¢ Five wins in a row would not quite put the Lady Vols back in the top 25, but they are receiving votes for the fourth straight week (Oct. 22).

CAN YOU DIG IT?

¢ After posting a season-high 98 digs at home against Mizzou (Oct. 5), the Lady Vols bested that mark just five days later when they tied a Tennessee rally scoring record with 106 scoops at LSU (Oct. 10). ¢ Tennessee has recorded 50 or more digs in 14 of 19 matches this season and has combined for 393 scoops - for an average of 18.71 per set - in its last five matches. ¢ With its recent performances, Tennessee has climbed to fifth in the SEC in the category with an average of 15.91 digs per set. In SEC matches only, UT ranks second in the category (17.39/Set).

THROWING IT AROUND

¢ Over the five-match win streak, Tennessee has dished out a combined 285 assists for an average of 13.57 per set, including 245 from sophomore setter Mary Pollmiller. Pollmiller is averaging 11.67 dimes per game over the last five and handed out 46 in just three sets at A&M for a 15.33 per game average. ¢ With Pollmiller’s ability to spread it around, Tennessee has climbed to the top of the SEC with a season average of 13.33 assists per game. In SEC matches only, the Lady Vols are tied for first with Texas A&M at 13.27 helpers per frame. ¢ Tennessee has posted 50 or more digs in 13 of 19 matches this season.

FABULOUS IN FIVE ¢ UT has played a league-high seven five-setters through 19 matches this season and holds a 6-1 record in those matchups. ¢ The seven five-set matches this year are more than the Lady Vols have played all season in six of the last 10 campaigns. UT played 9 five-setters last season and finished with a 6-3 mark in those matches. ¢ The five-set win at LSU (Oct. 10) was the Lady Vols’ third straight win in five, marking just the second time in program history the team has won back to back to back five-setters. ¢ UT defeated South Carolina, Auburn and Kentucky in consecutive five-setters in 2008. ¢ This year is just the second time the Big Orange has ever won two pairs of back to back five-setters in the same season. The Lady Vols also beat Iowa State (Aug. 25) and Colorado State (Aug. 31) in consecutive five-setters earlier this campaign. ¢ Tennessee fought back from a two-set deficit against Georgia (Oct. 7). It was the 16th win after being down 0-2 in school history. From 1997 to 2008, the team was only able to accomplish the feat once. Since 2009, the Lady Vols have won one match in that fashion each season.

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25

¢ Through 19 matches, the Lady Vols have faced three opponents ranked in the top 25 and three that were receiving votes in the poll. Kentucky is currently receiving votes in the AVCA poll. ¢ UT is 2-1 against teams in the top 25 this season with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State and then-No. 24 Colorado State. The Big Orange’s loss was against then-No. 12 Florida State in the season opener. The Lady Vols also lost to a BYU squad that is now ranked 18th in the weekly poll. ¢ The Lady Vols’ two wins over ranked teams are the only wins over non-conference opponents ranked in the top 25 for SEC teams. ¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked opponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton. ¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance, the Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament title that season.

ROBINSON EARNS MEMBERSHIP ¢ Heading into the break at LSU (Oct. 10), Robinson pounded her 998th and 999th career kills to comeback and win the second set, 26-24. Right after the break, the Bartlett, Ill., native slammed down another - her 1,000th career kill in the Big Orange uniform. ¢ With that kill, she became one of just 18 Lady Vols to eclipse the 1,000-kill plateau. She enters this match with 1,039 kills, just 10 shy of tying Kelly Hanlon’s 1,049. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-kill club: UT’S 1,000-KILL CLUB Rank Player (Yrs) Kills 1.
