FIRST SERVE THE TEXAS A&M MATCH ¢ Friday night’s matchup between the Tennessee Lady Vols and the Texas A&M Aggies marks just the eighth contest - and the first meeting in almost eight years - between the two opponents. The Orange & White currently leads the series by a 5-2 margin. ¢ With Texas A&M is in its first season as a member of the Southeastern Conference, this will also be the first league matchup between the two sides. ¢ The Lady Vols will be making just their third trip to College Station and the first in nearly 18 years. The Big Orange is 1-1 all-time in Aggieland. ¢ The teams played five times between 1982 and 1987, but have only met twice since, with the most recent meeting coming in the 2004 NCAA Tournament Second Round. UT won the match against the 18thranked Aggies in four sets at home. ¢ Tennessee won the opening three matchups of the series, but the squads have split the past four. ¢ Coach Rob Patrick is 1-0 against the Aggies. The win came in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament on Dec. 4.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT ¢ After posting their third consecutive five-set victory at LSU on Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Lady Vols traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., in search of some revenge. Tennessee, which was beaten by the Hogs on its home floor, made quick work of the Razorbacks, 25-22, 2522, 25-16, to level the season series. ¢ Junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson posted her 40th career and SEC-leading 13th double-double with a match-high 15 kills and 10 digs. Playing the majority of the match on the right side, Robinson committed just three errors on 39 attempts for a .308 attacking clip. ¢ Defensively, the Lady Vols were led once again by junior libero Ellen Mullins, who tallied 17 digs. Mullins also added a career-best four aces in the match. In the middle, DeeDee Harrison recorded a season-high 11 kills and seven blocks and sophomore Olivia Okoro finished with a career-best three kills and four blocks in her first career start with the Big Orange. ¢ Tennessee posted its third consecutive five-set win in six days when the Lady Vols rallied to defeat LSU (15-25, 26-24, 24-26, 25-21, 15-7), in Baton Rouge. ¢ The Big Orange improved to 6-1 on the year in five-setters and earned the back to back to back feat for just the second time in program history. ¢ With her first kill of the third set, Robinson became the 18th Lady Vol to join the 1,000-kill club, finishing the match with 18 kills and 17 digs. ¢ Sophomore Tiffany Baker led the way, compiling a career-best 24 kills and scooping 10 digs. ¢ Just five days after posting a career-best 34 digs against Mizzou - a mark that ranks second at UT in the rally scoring era - Mullins finished with 32 digs at LSU. ¢ UT also got 64 assists and 16 digs from setter Mary Pollmiller and 13 kills and 10 digs from Kayla Jeter. It was the first time this season UT had four players record double-doubles in a single match.

LADY VOL NOTES

DEF. PLAYER OF THE WEEK... AGAIN ¢ After anchoring the Lady Vol defense to wins at LSU and Arkansas, Mullins was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. She followed up her career-best 34-dig performance against Mizzou (Oct. 5) with 32 scoops at LSU on Oct. 10. It was the second highest total of her career as she became just the third Lady Vol to record at least two matches with 30 or more digs in a single season. ¢ On Sunday, she helped UT sweep the Arkansas Razorbacks and extend its winning streak to four with 17 digs and a career-high four aces on the road. ¢ Her 34 digs at Mizzou stands as the seventhhighest single-match total in school history and the second most in the 25-point rally scoring era. It was also the fourth highest total in the SEC this season. ¢ The Nashville native has started every match at libero for UT this season and upped her average to 4.18 digs per set. Mullins has posted 12 or more digs in all nine conference matches this season and currently ranks sixth in the SEC in digs pet set. ¢ Mullins is looking to become the 12th or 13th (depending on Robinson) Lady Vol to join the 1,000-dig club for her career. She currently has 925 career digs.

ROBINSON EARNS MEMBERSHIP ¢ Heading into the break at LSU on Wednesday,

97

» Libero Ellen Mullins has posted 97 digs through the current Big Orange winning streak. She is averaging 5.39 scoops per set during the four-match stretch.

Robinson pounded her 998th and 999th career kills to comeback and win the second set, 26-24. Right after the break, the Bartlett, Ill., native slammed down another - her 1,000th career kill in the Big Orange uniform. ¢ With that kill, she became one of just 18 Lady Vols to eclipse the 1,000-kill plateau. She enters this match with 1,025 kills, just 24 shy of tying Kelly Hanlon’s 1,049. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 1,000-kill club: UT’S 1,000-KILL CLUB Rank Player (Yrs) Kills 1. scoring record with 106 scoops at LSU (Oct. 10). ¢ Tennessee has recorded 50 or more digs in 13 of 18 matches this season and has combined for 336 (18.67/Set) scoops in its last four matches. ¢ UT has climbed to fifth in the SEC in the category with an average of 15.78 digs per set. In SEC matches only, UT ranks second in the category (17.26/Set).

FABULOUS IN FIVE ¢ UT has played seven five-setters through 18 matches this season and holds a 6-1 record in those meetings. ¢ The seven five-set matches this year are more than the Lady Vols have played all season in six of the last 10 campaigns. UT played 9 five-setters last season and finished with a 6-3 mark in those matches. ¢ The five-set win at LSU (Oct. 10) was the Lady Vols’ third straight win in five, marking just the second time in program history the team has won back to back to back five-setters. ¢ UT defeated South Carolina, Auburn and Kentucky in consecutive five-setters in 2008. ¢ This year is just the second time the Big Orange has ever won two pairs of back to back five-setters in the same season. The Lady Vols also beat Iowa State (Aug. 25) and Colorado State (Aug. 31) in consecutive five-setters earlier this campaign. ¢ Tennessee fought back from a two-set deficit against UGA (Oct. 7) on Sunday. It was the 16th win after being down 0-2 in school history. From 1997 to 2008, the team was only able to accomplish the feat once. Since 2009, UT has won one match that way every season. WK10

¢ For the third consecutive season, Tennessee opened its campaign in the national rankings, came in at No. 15 in the AVCA Preseason Poll. The preseason ranking was the ninth in program history for UT, who concluded 2011 rated as No. 19. ¢ On Aug. 27, the Lady Vols moved up one position to No. 14 in the nation following wins over Cincinnati and then-No. 10 Iowa State. UT fell down two notches to No. 16 after posting a 2-1 mark at the Shocker Volleyball Classic. ¢ The Big Orange went 3-0 at Maryland’s SpringHill Suites Invitational with three sweeps, but dropped one spot to No. 17 in the AVCA Poll on Sept. 10. ¢ After opening their SEC slate 2-3, the Lady Vols dropped out of the top 25 on Oct. 1 for the first time in 17 polling periods and since September 2011. ¢ The 16-week stretch was the fourth longest in school history. UT had two stretches of 19-straight weeks (2009-11; 1982-84) and one stretch of 17 consecutive weeks (2005-05) in the poll. ¢ After entering the rankings at No. 24 on Nov. 30, 2009, the Lady Vols spent 19 consecutive polling periods in the Top 25, until falling out for a four-week span last season. ¢ Four wins in a row would not quite put the Lady Vols back in the top 25, but they are receiving votes for the third straight week (Oct. 15).

TENNESSEE IN THE RPI ¢ The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the 2012 campaign was released recently with the Lady Vols coming in at No. 27 in the nation. After defeating Mizzou and Georgia, UT jumped six spots to No. 21 in the second week of the RPI rankings and went up three more spots after posting wins at LSU and Arkansas to No. 18. ¢ Eight of UT’s 13 wins have come against top 75 RPI teams: Arkansas (26), Wichita State (36), Colorado State (40), ISU (42), Mizzou (48), UGA (54), LSU (67) and South Carolina (74). ¢ In addition, all five of the Big Orange’s losses have come against top 50 RPI squads: BYU (11), Florida State (15), Kentucky (17), Arkansas (26) and Missouri (48). ¢ The SEC has five teams in the top 30 and seven squads in the top 50 of the RPI rankings: Florida (12), Kentucky (17), Tennessee (18), Arkansas (26), Texas A&M (28), Missouri (48) and Auburn (49).

TENNESSEE ON THE ROAD ¢ After hosting its annual home tournament, the Comcast Lady Vol Classic, from Aug. 24-25, the Lady Vols have been road warriors. UT traveled to Wichita, Kan., and College Park, Md., for two regular season tournaments and Columbia, Mo., Tuscaloosa, Ala., Lexington, Ky., Baton Rouge, La., and Fayetteville, Ark., for SEC play. ¢ Tennessee is 5-2 in true road matches this season, with wins over Wichita State, Maryland, Alabama, LSU and most recently Arkansas. UT also has three wins at a neutral location on the campaign. ¢ In 2011, the Big Orange finished with a 14-3 record in matches away from Thompson-Boling Arena, including a 3-1 mark in a neutral location. ¢ Dating back through the 2008 campaign, the Lady Vols are 43-17 in true road matches. UT is 70-40 in away matches dating back through the 2004 season.

TENNESSEE vs. THE TOP 25

¢ Through 18 matches, the Lady Vols have faced three opponents ranked in the top 25 and two that were receiving votes in the poll. Texas A&M is currently receiving votes in the AVCA poll. ¢ UT is 2-1 against teams in the top 25 this season with wins over then-No. 10 Iowa State and then-No. 24 Colorado State. The Big Orange’s loss was against then-No. 12 Florida State in the season opener. The Lady Vols also lost to a BYU squad that is now ranked 16th in the weekly poll. ¢ The Lady Vols’ two wins over ranked teams are the only wins over non-conference opponents ranked in the top 25 for SEC teams. ¢ Tennessee went 4-2 in matches against ranked opponents in 2011, with a pair of wins over Florida (No. 6 & No. 13), a victory over No. 16 Kentucky and a win against No. 21 Dayton.

¢ En route to its NCAA Regional Final appearance, the Big Orange defeated a rally-scoring record six ranked teams in 2004. UT shared the SEC title and captured the SEC Tournament title that season.

RECORD WATCH ¢ Robinson enters the week with 995 career digs and is eyeing some milestones. With five digs, she can become the 12th UT player to reach 1,000 career digs. ¢ When she reaches that mark, she will join an even more exclusive club, becoming one of just five Lady Vols in school history with both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 digs. ¢ Mullins currently sits at 925 career digs, 75 shy of joining the 1,000-dig club. If Robinson reaches the club first, Mullins would be the 13th member. Last season, she finished with 471 digs. In 2012, she has scooped 305 balls through 18 matches. ¢ Below are charts on the current UT record watch: UT’S 1,000-KILL & 1,000-DIG CLUB Player (Yrs) Kills (Rk.) Digs (Rk.) Robinson did not achieve the feat in the season opener against Florida State, but reached double digits in two categories in 11-straight matches. Her streak was snapped at Kentucky (9/26). ¢ The junior outside hitter started a new streak which she looks to continue today - last week at LSU. She tallied 18 kills and 17 digs in the match and fell just one dig short of the program’s third triple-double with nine digs. She extended the new streak on Sunday at Arkansas with a 15-kill, 10-dig performance. ¢ She now has 40 career double-doubles.

She led all NCAA freshmen in assists per set, while ranking fourth in the nation and first in the SEC. ¢ She was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. In addition, the rookie garnered AVCA All-South Region Freshman of the Year, SEC All-Freshman Team and AVCA All-South Region Team honors. ¢ Below is a chart of UT’s 2,000-assist club: UT’S 2,000-ASSIST CLUB Rank Player (Yrs) Assists 1.
