¢ Tennessee is coming off its 16th straight win in a home opener after defeating Dayton, 3-1, on Monday. UT is now 20-1 all-time in home openers and 15-0 under co-head coaches Ralph & Karen Weekly. ¢ UT has never lost to any of its three opponents this weekend, posting a combined record of 4-0 against them. ¢ The Vols have been solid offensively early in the year, ranking 16th in the nation with 7.56 runs per game. They also rank 16th nationally in slugging percentage (.567) and 17th in on-base percentage (.449). ¢ The Vols have gotten major production from their freshmen class, especially the trio of Aubrey Leach, Brooke Vines and Abby Lockman. Vines and Leach rank first & second on the team in batting average and the three have combined for 46 starts, 47 hits, 32 runs and 23 RBIs. ¢ Megan Geer has reached base in 15 straight games and is coming off a great week. The junior was named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team after batting .500 with four runs, two doubles, seven RBIs and a home run. ¢ Meghan Gregg was also named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team after batting .538 over the weekend with four runs, four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBIs. ¢ Freshman pitcher Matty Moss has been lights out in her last two appearances, throwing a one-hit shutout vs. Marshall and holding No. 4 Alabama scoreless for 5.2 innings before giving up three runs in the final inning. She was named to the Easton Bama Bash All-Tournament Team for her efforts. ¢ Erin Gabriel leads the SEC and ranks ninth nationally with 70 strikeouts this season. She is also tied for third in the SEC and tied for 11th in the country with seven victories already this season. ¢ With her win over Dayton on Monday, Gabriel moved into the top 10 in career wins at Tennessee with 34. ¢ Gabriel was named SEC Pitcher of the Week (2/15) for the first time in her career earlier this season. ¢ Shaliyah Geathers is tied for second in the SEC with eight doubles and is also tied for 20th in the country with 0.50 doubles per game. ¢ UT co-head coach Karen Weekly enters this weekend with a career record of 945-319-2, just five wins shy of 950 for her career. ¢ For the sixth time in program history, Tennessee was ranked in the Top 10 of both national preseason polls (2006, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016). WEEK 1 NOTES (KAJIKAWA CLASSIC) ¢ The Vols went 4-2 with two wins over teams that made the 2015 NCAA Tournament (BYU & Northwestern). ¢ Erin Gabriel went 2-1 and posted 10-plus strikeout in all three of her starts, totaling 34 for the week. She threw a complete-game shutout with 13 Ks in the Vols season-opening 5-0 victory over Creighton. ¢ Gabriel also become the first Tennessee pitcher to strike out 10-plus batter in three straight appearances since Ellen Renfroe accomplished the feat in 2014. ¢ Freshmen Aubrey Leach and Brooke Vines both batted over .430 and combined for 20 hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs and seven steals. WEEK 2 NOTES (MICHELE SMITH INVITATIONAL) ¢ The Vols went 4-1 with run-rule victories over Oklahoma State, Fordham and DePaul. ¢ Tennessee improved its all-time record in Clearwater, Fla., to 21-2. ¢ UT averaged 9.2 runs per game in its five contests and scored 10 or more three times. ¢ Shaliyah Geathers had a monster week, batting .471 with six runs, five doubles and 10 RBIs. WEEK 3 NOTES (EASTON BAMA BASH) ¢ The Vols went 2-2 with two wins over Marshall and a pair of 1-run losses to No. 15 Arizona & No. 4 Alabama. ¢ Matty Moss, Meghan Gregg & Megan Geer were all named to the all-tournament team. ¢ Moss threw a complete-game one-hitter in an 18-0 win over Marshall & followed that with 5.2 scorless innings of relief against No. 4 Alabama before giving up three late runs. Moss leads the team with a 1.58 ERA. ¢ Meghan Gregg batted .538 with four runs, four doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and a 1.308 slugging percentage.
