Eureka's Main Street bustled with activity in the 1920s. (Utah State Historical Society) eight-man squad tents for the six weeks required to build the four barracks, which would each hold fifty men. They also built a mess hall and recreation center.42 They worked on cattle trails, flood- and erosion-control projects, cleaning recreational areas, and building benches, tables, and restrooms. They also built the ranger station. In lune 1933, twelve young men from Eureka and four from Mammoth were sent to the Nebo Camp. 43 On 6 November the camp was moved to Washington, near St. George. The following April it was reopened by another group. 44 During the summers of 1933 and 1934 the men worked on the Mount Nebo Scenic Loop Road, This twenty-mile road begins about twelve miles from Nephi and runs northeasterly, and then n o r t h , behind Mt. Nebo. It reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet, and continues until it connects with Payson Canyon. It is advertised as one of Utah's most beautiful scenic drives.
