Richard H. Kern, 1821-1853, was a member of Fremont's Fourth expedition. He was murdered on October 26, 1853, while accompanying Lieutenant Gunnison on the Pacific Railroad survey.

Edward M. Kern, 1823-1863, a member of Fremont's Third and Fourth expeditions.
