We are destroying the Great Salt Lake. We are turning this once mighty Great Lake into a cesspool. If “progress” wins, the lake will indeed die. The inland port, which promises to poison the food supply for millions of migratory birds, moves forward. The proposed landfill on the inlet of where the Salt Creek flows into the GSL, where thousands of ducks and geese find sanctuary, will become a place to bury radioactive waste, soot and ash. There are plenty of better places to store this ash, but greed is winning. Greed is the driving force of “progress in Utah”, and as local journalism continues its downward trajectory, our learning about this “progress” will not be found on Instagram or from the “influencer community”. The censorship by Facebook is systematically silencing all dissenting voices and the independent press. Greed marches on. Neiztche proclaimed in 1872 that “God is dead.” He was remarking on how humans are killing God with their “progress” and how the Church’s role in society and man’s worship of his own creations, rather than God’s, was winning. When our “Great” Salt Lake becomes a cesspool, will we mourn it’s loss or will we just enjoy the Walmart that is built on top of it?
