Leading Change | Bonita Austin, MBA

June 5, 2025

Organizations encounter two types of changes - episodic and continuous. Episodic changes like organizational transformations are often viewed as discrete events. However, they frequently overlap with ongoing changes. This layering effect causes employees and managers to experience changes as continuous change with no end in sight. Traditional change management approaches are helpful but do not address continuous change effectively. Bain & Co research showed the organizational transformation failure rate dropped from 38% in 2013 to 13% in 2023. However, the transformational change success rate remained stubbornly stuck at a mere 12%, with 75% of transformations falling into the “mediocre” or “so-so” category.
