INNOVATION

INNOVATION

IT’S WHAT WE’RE MADE OF.

We are leaders, not followers. We challenge the status quo. We are pioneers on the cutting edge of business, health science, technology, and more.

The people you meet here on campus are really focused on giving you the best college experience possible. Our professors are really hands-on, we have so many different outlets to find support, and the student life is amazing.

ELLEIANA HABIBIAN Biochemistry Major

At DSU’s Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Center, mentors and investors help students patent, manufacture and market their new products and businesses. Students can earn cash to help fund their ideas through business competitions.

Through DSU’s Entertainment, Arts & Animation program, students produce animated short films to prepare them for careers in the gaming and film animation industries.

DSU’s Dance program is one of only a dozen colleges nationwide to offer an Aerial Dance Technique class — an emerging area of study in higher education.

Medical Laboratory Science students analyze real patient samples using the latest technologies found in medical labs. In learning phlebotomy, students use simulator arms before proceeding with live blood draws on volunteers.

DSU’s Computer & Information Technology department partners with local businesses to offer Code School, a free intensive course to help students jump-start their web programming careers for free. Many participants are placed in internships and jobs within the software and web industries upon completion.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

THIS IS OUR TOWN.

DSU is closely connected to our community, providing opportunities for you to make lasting changes and meaningful connections through service, leadership, and civic engagement.

DSU’s Trailblazer Engagement Center will be your go-to hub for service opportunities. Each year, the DSU family dedicates more than 200,000 hours of service to the community through 150 service projects.

Students volunteered at an orphanage in Belize and helped rebuild communities affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans as part of the Alternative Breaks program.

DSU’s Dental Hygiene department collaborated with local dentists to offer uninsured children free preventative and restorative dental care.

Accounting students and faculty dedicated 3,437 hours to prepare 1,427 tax returns for community members, facilitating nearly $2.3 million in returns as part of the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

DSU’s student-run public relations agency publicized the Heroes in Disguise 5k Fun Run in support of organ donation education and awareness.

The English and Music departments collaborate each spring to offer Storytime –a free evening of dramatic and musical storytelling – to the children and families in the community.

Nursing students conducted health screenings at the Huntsman Senior Games and Switchpoint homeless shelter in addition to visiting elderly community members to help them maintain or improve health.

As part of the Multicultural & Inclusion Center’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, volunteers dedicated 100 hours of service to spend quality time with the elderly, plant a community garden, paint and clean community facilities, and more.
