STUDENTS OF MOODY I chose Moody because as a first generation student who was born in Texas, coming to UT was a dream come true. I also knew that Moody has one of the most prestigious journalism schools in the country and I thought if I wanted to take the risk of studying journalism, I better take that chance here. I’m glad I did! After three semesters at Moody, my interest and passion for this career has only increased. Reporting on Austin is exciting and I love learning more about where I live through my assignments. Moody has very thought-provoking and beneficial courses and our professors are so experienced. There is no place I’d rather be at this time in my life. -Jessica Lenamond, Journalism sophomore I’ve always been interested in filmmaking and that industry so I just figured why not. I really have no desire to study something that doesn’t interest me or something I’m not passionate about, so RTF and Moody seemed like an easy choice to learn something I actually care about. I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned in Moody and just college in general is that if you want to be successful in a creative field, you’re going to have to figure it out on your own. At the end of the day there’s no real instructions or guide so you really just have to learn how to rely on yourself and your own hard work. -Charlie Hyman, RTF and Studio Art sophomore 5

I’ve always wanted to be to writer so when I was choosing colleges, I researched the best journalism schools. Texas was perfect because it offers both the resources and opportunities of Moody as well as Austin. I get to learn both inside and outside the classroom and I really appreciate that experience.

-Sloan Wyatt, Journalism sophomore

I’ve been influenced the most by the students of Moody as a whole. I’m constantly blown away by the talent and creativity that is so prevalent here at Moody, and it constantly inspires me to do better myself. Seeing people pursuing nonconventional and artistic endeavors with such driven attitudes has been a source of guidance and purpose during my time in this college.

-Helen Hulsey, Advertising sophomore 6

The biggest thing that I’ve learned since being in Moody is how important connections are. I love that my peers are so driven and talented that it encourages me to push myself. Being around creative, smart, and inspiring people influences me to be better in both my educational and personal endeavors. Communication is a way to connect to people. Through the advertising program at Moody, I hope to make creative content for fashion brands. Fashion is how I express myself and I love to see how others do the same. The education and connections I am receiving here will equip me the tools to get into the industry. -Sarah Stiles, Advertising junior Ryan Romero and Sean LaBounty, hands down. Through Texas Creative, they've taught me how to pick myself up after crushing feedback and make something good out of it. I'm not the best writer, but I'm a diligent and tenacious writer, thanks to them. I really appreciated having the experiences I've had in TXC and don't know where I'd be if I hadn't worked with them for the past 2 years.

-Matty Barker, Advertising senior 7

I went into journalism because I wanted to be able to give people a voice. I have always loved writing more than the average person and over time is became the one thing I was truly passionate about. I knew I wanted to give back to people and make a difference in at least one person’s life. With journalism I am able to do the two things I truly love and care about; writing and making a difference. Whether it be UT, Moody, or college in general, I am here because I want to make change and I am finally learning how to do that. -Emma Bittner, Journalism and Communication & Leadership sophomore

I think I’m here to bring people together, to connect people in a in a new and compelling way, to help people understand that the cure to anything in life is connection. having other people around you is one of the most powerful things, and how we can grow as human beings. I’m here to make a mark on UT and Moody but also make a mark on the hearts of other people. I really never knew the path that I was on until I landed in Moody, and since being here I have felt so reassured in my identity as a student. With Moody behind me I feel strong enough to lead others and to help others. Although there have been so many challenges and so many times when I felt shaky and unconfident, I think I’ve become stronger because of it. I think I’m right where I need to be.

-Kellie Woodin, Advertising junior
