Community SPOTLIGHT

Written by Emily Anaya

“Colorism says you have more value if you are in closer proximity to whiteness.”

T

he Museum of Color is an initiative dedicated to amplifying the marginalized voices of individuals in the community who have experienced colorism. Led by women of color, several of whom are members of the Moody Honors Program, the Museum of Color is an example of the power behind multi-media communication and the social impact it can create. As an entity under the Color Complex which was also founded by UT students, the Museum of Color is an exhibition showcasing personal stories and experiences of colorism through art in a way that is both liberating and empowering to the artists as well as the audience. The Museum of Color is currently developing a digital format for this meaningful experience and is open to submissions and membership of anyone interested in the topic of colorism as it affects society.
