One of the most valuable services available to you as a Moody student is Communication Career Services or CCS. Your key to success will be your ability to combine the academic coursework to jobs, internships, student organization involvement, and other extracurricular activities. Through CCS’ recruiting events (like job and internship fairs), advising sessions, career exploration, and online services, we help you connect the dots between where you are now and where you want to be when you graduated. CCS won’t get you a job, but we will help you understand your career options, prepare your resume and cover letter, develop your professional networking and interview skills, and connect with employers regarding internships and jobs. Connect with CCS early and stay involved throughout your academic career. Then, you’ll be on track to get a job (or go to graduate school).
CMB
Hosts college studio spaces, KUT Radio, and KLRU public television.
HSM
Houses Texas Student Media, the Daily Texan, KVRX Student Radio, and KV-TV.
The Belo Center for New Media (BMC), Belo for short, is the latest addition to the College of Communication providing classrooms, a 300 person auditorium, and the Student Leadership Suite. The college showcase the beautiful marriage between architecture and technology.
Moody MAgazine
As the official publication for Moody College of Communication, our goal is to inform the students of the Moody College of Communication about the vast and wonderful opportunities and people they have at their disposal. This can mean club spotlights, professor profiles, student experiences, and more! When it comes to knowing what’s going on in our college, Moody Monthly is the place to be! Our newsletter is designed and produced by members of the Communication Council, and is then sent out monthly through the UT emailing system.

Moody Experience Going to a new place can be a scary experience especially when you don’t know what’s in store. Let’s talk about several student’s perspective in Moody!
I kinda ended up in the major on accident, but chose to stay in it because it seemed to match me perfectly. I have always wanted to keep the main priority in my career to give back to my community in some way. I believe the Comm and Leadership major prepares you for a variety of career choices because 1)since there are only 4 Core Comm and Leadership classes, you have the flexibility to take classes that fit your interests and 2)you are being trained to not only be an ethical leader within your career, but to find ways to give back to the community. I think the main thing that I have learned throughout being in this major is the responsibilities that come with being a leader. You have to take time to listen to your followers, reflect on your experiences and better yourself for the future, take time in your decision making and really focus on what is ethical, have mentors and people you can rely on to hold you accountable, give back to your community with time/money overall support, and to make sure you are not only setting a leadership standard for others but continuously going above and beyond your own personal standards.
My name is Rebecca and I am a junior public relations major. I knew going into college that I wanted to be a communication major in Moody, but I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. I chose public relations because it is a meaningful yet flexible degree. There is also a lot of overlap with other fields such as advertising, business, and journalism. I am also doubling in Radio-Television-Film in the hopes of applying my public relations degree to the film industry. There are lots of opportunities in public relations and at Moody in general. I am excited to see what the future holds!
I originally came to UT as a Public Relations major, but after taking Professor Dahlby’s Fundamental Issues in Journalism class, I immediately knew that journalism was the right path for me. As a news junkie, specifically interested in politics, I knew that being a journalism major was the perfect fit for me, with UT offering so many options for journalism majors. Once I declared as a journalism major, I began getting involved with Texas Student Television (TSTV), where I worked in their news department. Within just one semester as a volunteer for KVR News, I had produced multiple stories and anchored a newscast, proving that my decision to be a journalism major was the right choice. Now, as I enter my sophomore year at UT, I will be an Associate Producer for KVR News, where I will continue to learn and grow as a journalist and gain valuable experience for my future endeavors. Before entering college, my awareness of CSD stemmed from meeting a camp counselor who had majored in it when I was younger. Around the time of college applications, I hadn’t done much research into majors but was eager to explore an unknown field of study, figuring I could decide to switch out if it was not for me. I ended up not even considering switching majors because of how quickly CSD classes interested me. My first CSD class (306K) introduced me to many new things that an average person may never encounter - Deaf culture, the varying types of hearing aids, swallowing disorders, and so much more. Each year, the field becomes more complicated and specific, and it’s exciting to be exposed to material that will eventually become vital to our jobs. I am fortunate to have selected such a specialized and niche major, and I really can’t imagine having studied anything else during my years at UT
I chose RTF because I love making movies just as much as I love watching them. I decided I wanted to go into film in 9th grade when I attended a summer film camp through Austin Film Festival. Filmmaking is a beautiful and unique process. I love being able to evoke emotions, tell stories, and share perspectives. I’m a storyteller. As an RTF major at UT, I feel so inspired by all the talented filmmakers around me whether it’s professors, students, or speakers. Everyone’s really supportive and it’s a fun community to be a part of. A lot of us are always helping each other on shoots and collaborating 24/7. I’m grateful to be able to follow my passion with my brilliant peers.
I originally decided to pursue advertising because I enjoyed graphic design in high school, and I thought that this major would be a nice combination of design and business. As I started pursuing advertising, I realized that this program has also been teaching me ways to build platforms for companies and people. I still have the passion that I had for design when I first pursued this major, but I have decided that in the future, I would like to shift more of my focus to using the skills I have received through my education to help build platforms for underrepresented voices and communities.
I feel most understood in a room full of Communication and Leadership majors. Each one of us is passionate about niche aspects of the way humans live and communicate. The way that we proceed with that passion is with excitement, innovation, and a smile that looks like we know the secret to changing the world. This degree has far exceeded my expectations of a Moody major. It’s tailored to our interests, and challenging because we create the major as we refine ourselves. The flexible curriculum experience has instilled a competence in it’s students, because we choose the courses we want to take, that poke our minds, and ones we bring into conversation with our friends because we can’t stop thinking about them. From children’s education, women’s empowerment, civic engagement, interactive journalism, Communication and Leadership for me is about doing your part to make the world a better place to live in.

Hi, my name is Bailey Sward, and I am a fourth year advertising major with a focus in copywriting. This year I am serving as the 2018-2019 President of Communication Council! During my time at UT, I have grown a strong love and appreciation for all our Moody faculty, staff, and peers. I hope that over the next year, as we bring in new members from various backgrounds, we can all work together to make Moody a welcoming home for all our students. Whether you join CommCouncil or not, I encourage you to get involved in one of our amazing Moody organizations. We are so excited to meet all of you! Make sure you stop by the Student Leadership Suite if you need anything, or just want to hang out!
I am a third year Corporate Communications and Advertising major headed all the way from India. I joined Communication Council as a baby freshman and have truly adored every second of being a part of this beautiful organization. This year I am so excited to serve as the Vice President of the Communication Council!! As VP, I oversee the eight internal committees of the council that work to enhance your Moody experience and also serve as the liaison between the committee chairs and the executive board of the council.
My name is Kennedy Quintanilla and I’m a sophomore majoring in Political Communication. I am so excited to serve as the Financial Director for Communication Council this school year! As Financial Director, I handle our accounts, set our budgets and do lots paperwork. Communication Council has created such a wonderful environment to learn and grow in. I like Communication Council, because the people in the organization have wholesome personalities. They don’t have their heads in the clouds, and they work everyday to improve for the future. They also like to have fun, which is a good balance. Communication Council isn’t about fitting into a rigid mold. We have extroverts. We have introverts. We have a great mix, and sitting in the meeting, it feels like family. I never thought I was good enough to become an officer of the Council. I saw people in the Executive positions and I thought, “Wow, I could never do that.” But Communication Council, and college in general, has made me believe in myself a little bit more. Now I am more social, more open to opportunity, and less likely to sit on the couch acting like a bum. I have Council to thank for that.
My favorite part about Communications Council is that even though many of us have majors revolving around outreach and communication, our personalities and styles of speaking are so different. Its rare to see so many people with the same goal but achieving it in so many different ways and to me that’s so much of what makes the Communications school so unique. Comm Council is filled with people who understand that not everyone thinks the same way and that alone separates Comm Council from other student orgs. As External director for the next school year, I hope to be more involved with our outside org reports. The activities and orgs that our Commies are involved in should be tied to Comm Council. I am working on making sure that if there is an event on campus that a Commie is involved in, CC will be there too.
I’m Riya and I’m one of CC’s Diversity and Inclusion Co-Directors. This year, I’ll be making sure that Comm Council continues to think about how we can be more inclusive and ensure that all moody students feel comfortable and supported in our college. I’m so thankful to be part of an organization that is passionate about social justice issues and wants to enact change not only within Moody and UT, but within the community. One thing I love about Moody is the creativity and freedom that students are awarded. It has been amazing to be a part of CC and meet so many different types of students who are all achieving incredible things in different ways. I can’t wait to see where this year takes us!
Hello! My name is Lydia Medhanie and I am a senior (booooo) studying Corporate Communication. This year I will serve as a Director of Diversity + Inclusion for Communication Council, along with the beautiful and talented Riya Ashok. As Co-Directors we hope to bring tangible and monumental change to the Moody College of Communication, through several D+I initiatives the Moody College has yet to see. I am especially excited to take on this role because it is the very first executive D+I position Communication Council has ever had, so there is an amazing opportunity to set a precedent for future Moody students. I hope to not only help foster a welcoming environment within Moody, but to also help create positive and meaningful solutions to issues faced across campus. Thanks for reading and have a great end of summer! xx

Junior - Communication Studies It is so empowering to be part of an organization that prioritizes lifting others up. Outreach
Junior - Advertising To me, Comm Council is the chance to make a tangible difference in Moody. The relationship that pur presidents and other executives have with the deans at moody give us a chance to represent the voice of all students. As the new Outreach chair, I want to work to make changes and boost the voices of all Moody organizations.
Hi my name is James Treuthardt! I’m a Journalism and Marketing double major serving as this years (and last years) Career and Alumni Relations (CAR) Chair for Communication Council. What does this fun role consist of, you ask? Great question! My job essentially consists of leveraging the amazing UT alumni we have to hold Lecture Series. Last year, we had people from Texas Monthly’s Tim Taliaferro to the CEO of Disney Bob Iger. Looking forward to creating a bunch of great events for y’all this year! One of my favorite parts of being a Moody student has to be the people. Everyone has so many passions, so many things they care about, and I just see this drive to really improve and have an impact on the world. It’s really one of the things that I think makes Moody so unique.

Special Events
Senior - Advertising I’m a senior communications student currently pursuing a major in Advertising under the Texas Creative track and a minor in Business! This year, I will be serving as Special Events Chair for the Communication Council. I have been a general member of CC for the past two semesters and I’m incredibly excited to take on this new role! I hope to plan events and outreach activities that connect the various people and organizations throughout Moody College and create more of a bridge between our organization and the Communication school as a whole.

Sophomore - Communication Studies My name is Emily and I am a third year, Communication Studies Major. In Communication Council I am the Service Chair for the 2018-2019 school year. There are so many things I enjoy about Communication Council, but I think it all can fall under one umbrella concept—it makes me feel connected to the Moody College and the University at large. If I had not joined this organization my path in college would have been very different. Making friends at University is much different than in my childhood because you don’t have the same classes with everyone, every day and you have many more personal responsibilities that you did not have in the past. My fellow peers in CC have provided me knowledge, companionship, support, motivation, laughter, different perspectives, confidence, and much more. When I graduate I will certainly look back at the huge impact this organization had on my time in college.
Sophomore - Communication and Leadership
Jaymi Morris
When I walk into the Moody College of Communication, I see passionate individuals -- future leaders, directors, journalists, entrepreneurs, politicians, and creative minds-- that will change the world through communication. Therefore, it is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as the Student Issue & Advisory Committee (SIAC) chair and not only help make sure that the voices of Moody Students are heard, but that something is done about it. This year in particular is an implementation year where SIAC and Communication Council members collaborate to review student feedback and put it to action. I am invested in Moody and strive to make students feel supported and included in our community. Moody students are driven, and it is my hope that we all can create a stronger sense of pride for our college and unite as a student body.

Junior - Corporate Communication Hey there! My name is Alexa Chung, and I am incredibly excited to be this year’s newsletter chair! When transferring to UT last year, I had just moved from Los Angeles, knew no one in the entire south, and was simply looking for a place to call home. Luckily, through joining Communication Council, I was able to find that. Being a part of this organization has given me opportunities to grow in ways that continue to surprise me everyday, and I’m deeply grateful for how much it has helped strengthen my bond with the Moody community as a whole. I can’t wait to work with my committee to create the best. Darn. Newsletter this college has ever seen, and I look forward to giving something back to a college that has already given me so much! Welcome back y’all!
I’m the chair of the Media Committee. Media upkeeps Council’s external communications, like the website (https://commcouncil.utexas.org/), Facebook page (@utcommcouncil) and Instagram (@utcommcouncil), and assists other committees with graphics and promotion for their events. We also make fun videos for Council to enjoy and post them on our Youtube account (CommunicationCouncil). Follow us on all platforms to stay up to date with all of our events!
