I always liked magic. But I liked even more about how one did the trick. Knowing this, I could impress my friends the next day at school. On a Saturday, many years ago, where I spent the weekend at my best friend’s home while we change TV channels, I stopped at one that caught my attention. A program that revealed the backstage of the films: special effects, explosions, camera tricks, stunts, everything unraveled. It was like magic to me! And from that day on the passion for illusion took another way - charming people with images. Through the video! Today I work in the fourth largest television network in Brazil, TV Bandeirantes (BAND), at BAND International channel, a pay channel with content that is intended for Brazilians living outside Brazil. But to get here, I traveled a long way. This all began in 2006 when I was accepted into 3rd place in the Methodist University of Sao Paulo for the Bachelor course in Journalism with a scholarship of 100% due to large scores that I got at the tests. Once classes began, I also began to seek employment in the area that could help me implement my technical skills and to help me in the same way, to better understand this new universe. Soon at the first half of class, I already could stand out among my colleagues with promising ideas and works very well made in video, always getting great grades. After waiting 6 months, I was called to work as a volunteer at NET City Channel - A channel with programming targeted to local regional cities across the country – from pay television operator, NET. That was my first experience in television. It was there where I could learn in practice how it all happened. First I learned all the technical side, such as studio lighting, operates studio cameras and external recordings. Doing scenery, operate Audio, CG, VT, Master Controller and programming. The following year, in 2007 I was invited to work on a cable channel Rede Record - The Women's Television Network, as assistant editor. There I was responsible for finalizing the matters that were aired in the channel programs, provided materials especially for the female public like cooking and fitness to sports programs about soccer. That same year, I was already combining three activities simultaneously: the college classes in the morning, work on issuing the afternoon and during the night work as a volunteer in the Net’s channel. This professional experience was essential to the academic work I was doing in this period and had total relation with each other. In this second year as a volunteer, I started at the production of programs of the NET channel: 

Producing sports programs, making the coverage of amateur soccer leagues in the region, the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, radical sports events such as ‘Gas Festival’, Skate as the ‘D Day’ , of the Brazilian skateboarder Sandro Dias and many others; Producing music and cultural programs, such as ‘Friday Music Nights at City Hall’;

 

Presenting a TV Show of poetry and as cultural reporter; And being responsible for the final edition of various programs of the house;

Then I was called in 2008 to work at BAND International for TV programming and channel’s ads creation Internship Program, by the end of 2009, where I was responsible for everything that goes into the air channel, since produce calls from commercial programming, set up the program schedule, ingest files, writing scripts and even directly contact viewers and operators of cable television broadcasting our signal out there.

In the last year of my graduation, I completed a work that was innovative once again among the groups that were finishing the course. A sports reality show that was focused on the contest between two fighters from two rival martial arts academies, in a final battle in the studios of the university, for a cash prize, which had an enormous repercussion among college students, and among teachers, where we reached a good note and we are able to graduate with excellence.

As I said earlier, I traveled a long way to be able to get here. And I come here today not just as a candidate. I come as someone who worked really hard these past years. I come as someone who is very well prepared in advance, to come here today and say that I am ready to face this new challenge. And everything that I learned guided me to this day. The day that I'm applying for a new job opportunity that will bring me advanced knowledge in specific area of editorial news production content for many different platforms and that will make me improve as a person and especially as a professional. Those rare professionals! Those ones, when you watch the first scene of your work, you cannot stop looking at it. Of those that actually involve you as a magician playing with his magical wand and take the rabbit out of the hat and at the end of the trick there's nothing left to do, but applaud.

Pedro Henrique da Silva.
