A lot of hard work and effort goes into facilities campus projects and the Coleman building chamber installation was no different. The recent project to install chambers for Dr. Zhongjie Sun has been in process for months and now, nearing completion definitely kept Laura Mooney, project manager, very busy. The task of ensuring proper installation of the chambers involved many months of dedication, man hours for the facilities services crafts and certainly teamwork, to ensure it all fell into place. “It makes for one of those . . . we don’t know how we do it but we get it done moments,” Mooney said. Below are pictures of the demo and process of the chambers, as well as the finished chambers after installation. Great job to our contractor, who did most of the demo and concrete work, as well as an outside vendor that did the epoxy flooring. Our facilities crafts completed the painting, carpentry, HVAC and electrical work. The actual chambers were installed by outside vendor. Job well done team!

CAMPUS PROJECTS, EMPLOYEES AND EVENTS ANNUAL BENEFITS OPEN ENROLLMENT
PHYSICAL PLANT SAFETY OFFICE
Benefits open enrollment is right around the corner. Employees will have two business weeks to make any desired changes. All changes must be completed by October 12 at 4:30 pm central time. Even if no changes are made, it’s a good idea to review your benefit plans each year. The choices made during the enrollment period will be effective for the period January 1 - December 31, 2019.
Renovations are underway on a new office suite for the facilities safety office. Below you can see the beginning of converting the architecture and planning carpet room into new offices for the safety department. The space will include new paint, carpet, ceilings and a new storage space. Facilities carpenters, painters, electricians, the IT Department and an outside HVAC company are all working on the project.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS HEALTH FAIR Human Resources
Facilities employees took advantage of information available during the health fair for medical, dental, and vision plans as well as nutrition, retirement and life insurance. Thank you to the benefits department for ensuring employees had vendors on-site to get their questions answered in advance of making upcoming plan changes.
FACILITIES ENERGY SERVICES Whit Sutton, Energy Manager
The Facilities Energy Services Department along with the Auto Services and the Electrical Department are in the process of renovating the GEM car fleet. These vehicles save the university fuel, reduce carbon output and increase pedestrian safety. They are the perfect transportation vehicle when one or two employees must work together and need quick, convenient transportation.
CUSTODIAL DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT Dunn Dental Building
The custodial team that works under foreman Ursela Howell, is pictured below working on their fall break chores. Ursela consistently spotlights her team and the great job they do for the Dunn dental building. She wants to keep encouraging her employees to keep up the good work!
One of the major items we are replacing to bring these vehicles back to life are the batteries. The batteries are the heart of the GEM car. Proper maintenance and care will go a long way to ensure long battery life. Many years of operation result from properly maintaining the batteries. The new gel-cell batteries are rated for 1100 charging cycles. This should allow 8 to 10 years of operation if the GEM cars are properly maintained. Listed below are some tips to preserve GEM cars. • • • • •
Always charge the batteries, at least nightly and even during the lunch hour when not in use. Avoid fast starts and stops. Pay attention to the flow of traffic and try to pace your driving. If you are assigned a GEM car and will be on leave, tell your supervisor so they may assign someone to drive and charge the vehicle while you are away. Avoid using the heater when its not necessary. Carry additional power cords for charging remotely.
