Doreen Markson '54

Doreen Markson ’54, Clinton, NY, a retiree from the New Hartford Central School District, was the recipient of the annual Mike Corn Outstanding Service Award. Markson has been a teacher and union leader for many years and is involved in union, political, and community service activities.

Dr. Allen Berger ’57, Savannah, GA, had his letters to the editor entitled “A standardized test for school taxpayers” and “Teach rather than test our schools” published in the opinion section of the Savannah Morning News.

Bart A. Basi ’62, Longboat Key, FL, received the Advocate of the Year award for 2017-2018 from the International Business Brokers Association presented at their annual international meeting in May 2018.

4Harold T. Clark Jr. ’65, Utica, NY, was named the 2018 Christopher Destito Leading EDGE Award recipient for his many contributions to the Mohawk Valley. Clark, chairman of Adirondack Bank and president of Mac-Clark Restaurants Inc. was also awarded the BSA Community Leadership Award. He served as the president of Ronald McDonald Charities of Central New York and received the Ronald Award, a top national recognition by the McDonald’s Corporation. In addition, Clark received the Archie Award and was elected president for the Operators National Advertising Fund (OPNAD) board by his peers at McDonald’s. He has served as president of the Central New York/Southern Tier McDonald’s Owners Co-Op.

Alan Ellinwood ’68, Winchester, VA, has retired after 45 years of government service, including military service with the U.S. Army as a Vietnam veteran.

Joseph P. Bottini ’69, Sauquoit, NY, was named a 2018 Richard W. Couper Living Legend by the Oneida County History Center.

Nadine D. Thomas ’71, Remsen, NY, a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Holland Patent Chapter, helped make 16 tie blankets for local veterans and five baby blankets to be donated to the liver transplant unit of a Boston hospital.

Sherman ’74, Sauquoit, NY, Utica College Alumni Council President, joined the Moose Mover volunteers, including Coordinator of Student Activities for Events and Services Fran Lucia (pictured, right), in August to help the class of 2022 move into residence halls. After his early morning shift and several mini-refrigerators, he no longer needed to get to the gym for his workout.

Louis B. Tehan ’74, Utica, NY, after nearly 40 years as President and CEO of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, announced his retirement on May 1, 2018.

Edward J. Osredkar ’81, Herkimer, NY, has retired after 30 years with the New York State Department of Transportation- Right-of-Way Mapping/Survey Department in Region 2, Utica, and Region 8, Poughkeepsie, NY.

Lenore A. Steet ’81, New Hartford, NY, of Steet-Ponte Toyota, donated a new van to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at the St. Luke’s Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System. The van will help Emergency Medical Services transport supplies and equipment to outreach and training/education programs in Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties.

Raymond L. Philo ’81, Utica, NY, presented a ceremonial gift check for the amount of $3,400 to the Utica College Organization of Justice Studies, donated from the first-year royalties from his recently co-published book, The Corr of the American Criminal Justice System: Lessons & The Anatomy of an American Tragedy. Philo also helped lead an Organization of Justice Studies event in which 50 UC students traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the FBI National Academy and the Headquarters and Training Center for the United States Secret Service. Mary Ellen Durr ’83, Barneveld, NY, a high-school special education teacher at Poland Central School District, was nominated by her district as an Amazing Teacher for a series by the Utica Observer-Dispatch recognizing exemplary instructors in Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties.

Dennis P. Moore ’83, Clinton, NY, was recently recognized by State Farm Insurance Companies for 30 years of service. His insurance sales agency is located in Herkimer, NY.

Robert C. Munson ’85, Utica, NY, has been promoted to senior project manager at Charles A. Gaetano Construction. He has been with the company for 15 years.

Yolanda G. Washington ’87, Navarre FL, has visited all seven continents with her daughter. They recently completed a trip to Antarctica.

Kristan M. Koch ’91, Havenuerhill, MA, has been promoted to chief financial officer, Civil & Utility Division, at BOND, a Boston-based construction firm. Koch will oversee the accounting and financial management of the division, focused on markets such as oil and gas, electric transmission and distribution, power generation, and civil infrastructure. Traci L. DeLore ’94, Ilion, NY, co-owner of Crazy Williez Brewery in Ilion, hosted a UC faculty/staff retiree event in August. The Honorable Anthony J. Picente Jr. ’94, Rome, NY, was selected as a Genesis Group and Medical Societies Distinguished Service Award recipient for his leadership in the areas of health and wellness.

Dolan ’98, G’03, Woodbridge, VA, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service, helped facilitate an Organization of Justice Studies event in which 50 graduate and undergraduate, ground, and online students traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the FBI National Academy and the Headquarters and Training Center for the United States Secret Service.

UC Advancement Retreat at The Root Farm

Jessica Burmaster ’00, Frankfort, NY, medical technologist, MPH, BSMLS, has been appointed director of the laboratory services department at Rome Memorial Hospital. Burmaster coordinates the efforts of various departments within the laboratory to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and the rest of the hospital.

Myra Camino '00 and her "little sister"

Myra Camino ’00, Pembroke Pines, FL, was unanimously selected as Big Sister of the Year for the state of Florida for her commitment to her mentoring relationship with her “little sister,” despite battling stage 4 breast cancer. She was chosen from 15,000 mentors statewide.

Holly A. Burline ’01, New Hartford, NY, was named nurse navigator for the Mohawk Valley Health System Breast Care Center at the Faxton Campus. In her new role, Burline offers individualized guidance and support to patients and their families during breast cancer treatment. Burline has been an employee of Faxton St. Luke’s since 2001 and worked as a staff RN in telemetry and pediatrics.

Organization of Justice Studies visit to Washington D.C.

Suzanne Lynch G’02, White Plains, NY, helped lead an Organization of Justice Studies event in which 50 graduate and undergraduate, ground, and online students traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the FBI National Academy and the Headquarters and Training Center for the United States Secret Service.

Dr. Nikhil Panda ’02, Foxboro, MA, a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and an assistant professor of medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, performed a cardiac ablation, roughly a five-hour procedure. Dr. Panda is one of six electrophysiologists in Rhode Island, the best of 20 candidates, as he was recruited from Cleveland’s Case Western Medical Center, where he was doing a complex-ablation fellowship.

Kimberly B. VanDuren ’02, New Hartford, NY, principal of Martin Luther King Elementary School in Utica, accepted a $1,000 check on behalf of the school from the Utica Hannaford Supermarket as part of the Hannaford Helps Schools program.

Dana C. Silano ’04, Delmar, NY, has been appointed as a sales support associate at Athleta in Albany, NY.

Mia H. Townsend ’06, Rome, NY, a Whitesboro Central School District social worker, volunteered at a women’s shelter in Cayey, Puerto Rico, several months after Hurricane Maria made landfall. Townsend helped provide shelter, clothing, and hygienic supplies to families displaced by the storm.

David J. Cole ’06, G’07, Salisbury, MA, was named manager of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine at Lahey Health. Cole will oversee all acute care physical and occupational therapy services at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA, and Beverly Hospital in Beverly, MA.

Gianni P. Notaro G’11, Clinton, NY, a social studies teacher at Westmoreland High School, has received the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest award an educator can acquire in the state.

Angelica Pascone ’11, G’14, Clinton, NY, joined the Mohawk Valley Health System Sleep Disorders Center as a physician assistant. Pascone diagnoses and treats sleep-related conditions.

Jacqueline C. Romano ’11, G’13, New Hartford, NY, vice president of Global Procurement for The Fountainhead Group, Inc., has been honored as one of the 2018 New York State Women of Distinction. Romano has spent more than 30 years with the company and has been active in the community, serving on a variety of boards and committees in the region.

Elyssa Arnone-Earl G’12, Utica, NY, was appointed to the position of coordinator of the Center for Leadership Excellence at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. In this position, she coordinates the development and delivery of leadership programs for personal enrichment and professional development.

Anthony M. LaPolla ’12, Utica, NY, was elected to the Utica City School Board in July 2018. LaPolla is recruitment and logistics manager at Adjusters International and office manager for Scala & Reofara Funeral Home, Inc., both in Utica.

Heather E. Tamblin ’12, Framingham, MA, works for South Bay Community Services as an Early Intervention Developmental Specialist in their Framingham, MA, office.

Dennis L. Labossiere ’13, G’16, Framingham, MA, is a Senior Associate, Advisory, within KPMG’s Cyber Response Service Group. coach at Utica College for two seasons, and as a student-athlete, recorded 161 points on 57 goals and 104 assists over four seasons.

Gabriel Maxwell G’17, Gainesville, VA, Assistant Director of the Federal Bureau, helped facilitate an Organization of Justice Studies event in which 50 graduate and undergraduate, ground, and online students traveled to Washington D.C. to visit the FBI National Academy and the Headquarters and Training Center for the United States Secret Service.

Ann C. Ciancia ’18, Glassboro, NJ, 2018 Utica College Senior Class President, has started law school at Syracuse University College of Law.

Chancellor J. Harris ’18, Utica, NY, works at VP Supply in New Hartford. At UC’s commencement in May, he walked across the stage to receive his diploma holding his infant daughter, Selena.
