GENERAL INFORMATION

Course Description

The meeting is intended for all physicians involved in the practice of internal medicine. This includes general internists, hospitalists, subspecialists in internal medicine, family physicians, general practitioners, and residents and fellows in internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Medical students, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants will find many sessions of interest and will benefit from the scope and depth of the program. Clinically practical presentations that cover a broad range of topics will be offered, enabling the practicing physician to remain up-to-date in the ever-changing practice of internal medicine.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, the participant should be able to:

• Appreciate morning report case-based presentations

• Apply the latest evidence in the management of Atrial Fibrillation

• Understand the mechanism of and evaluation of Antibiotic Allergy

• Develop a better understanding of Cardio-Obstetrics

• Recall the latest evidence in the management of Prostate Cancer

• Develop a better understanding of the causes of NASH and NAFLD

• Understand the evaluation and management of Constipation

• Apply the latest evidence in the evaluation and management of Osteoporosis

• Develop a better understanding of Glomerular Diseases

• Appreciate the Health Maintenance issues in Primary Care

• Recall the latest evidence in the management of Hospital Acquired Infections

• Develop a better understanding of Biomarkers in Clinical Medicine

• Apply the latest evidence in Obstructive Sleep Apnea management

• Understand the risks and benefits of Opioid management

• Describe the work up for Endocrine Causes of Hypertension

• Apply the latest recommendations in management of COPD

• Develop a better understanding of Cardio-Oncology

• Appreciate recent developments in Echocardiography and Telemedicine

• Recall the latest evidence in the management of Chronic Leukemias

• Appreciate the History of the Department of Internal Medicine

The University of Texas Medical Branch is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

UTMB CME designates this live activity for a maximum of 11.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston designates this educational activity for up to 1.0 hour ethics/ professional responsibility credit.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 11.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

The registration fee for this conference is $350 (for non-alumni). Members of the UTMB Internal Medicine Alumni Society will receive a special rate of $250. A new option is available this year for UTMB Internal Medicine Alumni Lifetime Members for $150 to attend the conference.

A refund (minus a $50 administrative fee) will be provided to registrants who cancel their registration in writing at least a week prior to the start of the conference. (No refunds will be provided for cancellations within one week of the conference.) To secure your spot, please make sure to register early.
