Have a break here in Komaba

研究室 博士課程2年 Cao Yongpeng

I am a 1st year Doctoral student in IIS. I also obtained the master's degree here. For these two years I’ve been here, I would say there are a lot of great places to explore if you like coffee.

Sometimes when my research gets stuck by problems, it gets hard for me to commute from home to Komaba campus since it takes me about an hour. But the delicious coffee here always makes me think it is worth it. What I want to say is that other than work there are many other interesting things worth exploring, and maybe it is not that far to reach. So, when you get bored, having a coffee break is not a bad choice. Just let the delicious coffee and the beautiful scenery on campus rest your heart.

I would like to introduce you some of my favorite coffee shops near the campus.

Cona coffee usually comes to our campus every Wednesday afternoon. It serves hand drip coffee made by fresh grilled single origin coffee beans with great flavors. A trivia of hand drip coffee is that it contains more caffeine than espresso-based coffee, which means it is a wise choice to drink it when you get sleepy.

To me, hand drips have various tastes like fruits or nuts, and it will surprise you with its taste every time. The owner is funny and very kind to chat with, you can see that he was thumbing up to me when I was taking the picture.

Yup! is a coffee shop near the campus(about 7 min walk). They serve fresh toasted donuts. It is a good place to go if you want to grab something other than snacks from the convenient store to eat.

Fuglen is a coffee shop (also a roastery) originated from Oslo. It is famous for using Aeropress to make coffee and present the unique flavor of the light roasted beans through this way. You can also buy the coffee beans at a reasonable price and make the coffee at home. A lot of foreigners would like to have a visit there. Although it is a little bit far from IIS, I would still like to recommend it since it is a cool place to relax and close to the Yoyogi-park, you can buy a cup of coffee with some biscuits and take a walk in the park. By the way they also serve cocktails at night.
