Assistantships Assistantships give students the opportunity to work on campus (up to 20-hour work weeks) and are based on college/institutional demands and funds. Three types of assistantships are offered: teaching, research and graduate. Please see your program director about the different assistantships available in your field of study. Presidential Graduate Research Assistantship (PGRA): This assistantship provides the resources to outstanding students to enhance graduate research, providing a scholarship to cover the tuition and fees of the program and an assistantship assignment. Total award up to $34,780. PGRA’s are available to new, full-time graduate students who enroll in a research-based masters program. Students must also conduct research resulting in a thesis and peer-review publication(s). To be considered, students must be recommended by the program coordinator.
Texas Resident Tuition Rate Texas resident tuition rate may be granted to students who receive a teaching or research assistantship in their discipline or who are awarded a competitive scholarship of over $1,000.

If you live in one of the following exempt countries: American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Sierra Leone, Trinidad/Tobago, United Kingdome, U.S. Pacific Trust, United States (other than Puerto Rico). Students who have recently and successfully completed at least 30 credit hours of university level academic studies in one of the countries listed above. Students who have completed the Advanced Level of the Intensive Program from the Language Institute (LI) at UTRGV may submit their certificate of completion with their application.
