recognized by the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation to receive the Charles Butt Scholarships for Aspiring Teachers beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year.

College of Fine Arts Entered a partnership with South Texas ISD to

support high school students

interested in the teaching profession. The Holmes Cadets program is an expansion of the Holmes Scholar Program designed to support doctoral students from historically underrepresented backgrounds pursuing careers in education.

address emotions through immersion in art forms such as mural painting, clay, painting, and sound.

The Department of Theatre’s “Latino Theatre Initiative” has been invited to theatre festivals in San Antonio, Houston, and New Orleans to perform Crawling with Monsters. A production that puts an

intense focus on border concerns.

The School of Music Mariachi Aztlan and Dance Program Ballet Folklorico have

toured the country

demonstrating precision and professional dancing and music performances from the Mexican and Rio Grande Valley Heritage.

College of Health Affairs 15 Students attended SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicano and Native American Science) national scientific conference. Ten students presented their research, Four student posters placed first in the student competition.

Faculty from the College of Health Affairs and the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in the College of Sciences were awarded a

$1 million, three-year research grant from the Office of Minority Health in the Department of Health Services. The project is an effort to control and prevent obesity rates in South Texas preschool children. Physician Assistant program has achieved a 5-year average of

94% pass rates Robert C. Vackar College of Business & Entrepreneurship

on the national board examination. The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved an expansion of our program from 50 students to 100 students over a three year period.

The Community Historical Archaeology Project with Schools (CHAPS) collaborative work to conduct extensive multidisciplinary research projects on

prehistoric native peoples

Roberts Award for Excellence in Public Historical Archaeology from the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA), and was further recognized on the floor of the 85th Texas State Legislature as House Resolution No. 479 honored the CHAPS Program at UTRGV for their work to raise awareness of the region’s rich cultural and natural history.
