Recital Pianist – Dr. N. Seth Nelson
N. Seth Nelson specializes as a classical organist and pianist in the San Antonio area. As a free-lanced pianist, Nelson maintains an active schedule of collaborating with singers and instrumentalists in the central Texas region. Dr. Nelson performs regularly as part of the orchestras of the San Antonio Philharmonic, and Opera San Antonio. He served a 15-year tenure at Trinity University as the faculty Collaborative Pianist, where he primarily played for singers in their recitals, operas and musicals, and competitions.
A passionate church musician, Seth is Organist at the First Baptist Church of San Antonio, where he has served since September 2009. Previously, he has been Organist at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas, and Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton, Michigan, and others. Nelson, an Associate with the American Guild of Organists, maintains an active concert schedule and has performed in France, Poland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, and the United States.
Dr. Nelson has earned a DMA and MM in organ performance at The University of Michigan, under the tutelage of Marilyn Mason. While there, he was also the first to earn the Certificate in Musicology, writing a thesis on the pipe organ controversy of the Puritans in New England. He earned a BM from the University of Texas at San Antonio as a pupil of Bess Hieronymus. Seth makes his home in San Antonio with his wife, Becky.
