Welcome to enjoy Huima! Huima 2012 is the seventh regional camp of Uusimaa Scouts and Guides and making it happen has brought at least us new friends, great skills and awesome experiences. These are also the stuff what we want you to have at Huima. After the camp you will have the best camp memories in your head and exactly those you can think on cold winter nights. Huima will nurse all your senses in the form of competitions, the village-like camp life and the many different valleys. At Huima you will have fun, regardless if you are on a camp the first time or you are a veteran of tens of camps. That is what our awesome camp staff will make sure. Did you know that Huima is the largest camp in the history of Uusimaa Scouts and Guides. Huima will have over 2000 campers, a majority of them not-yet-scouts-and-guide, NYSAGS (?!?!). Camper! You are now on your way to an adventure. Respect! In front of you are experiences that people can’t just buy – you have to go and move to get them. From experiences other great stuff can be born later on: for example our own adventures in Madventures [a very popular Finnish travel program] probably wouldn’t have happened without countless nights in the bush in both scouts and other hobbies. There, in the bush, new skills were learned, new people were met and experienced the things that were necessary when traveling around the world while making an international TV-series and three books. After the camping our adventure experiences have expanded from the Finnish forest to African savannahs, the jungles of the Amazonas and New Guinea, mountains of Himalaya and to global metropolises. In all of them there are a few things that make the trip the adventure it needs to be.’ Leave behind the familiar and safe routines (this you have already done). Try new culinary thrills. Find new friends, get to know people. Turn off the mobile phone and computer for a while. Do something you wouldn’t normally do. Talk a foreign language. Do things on your own. Remember the environment. Have fun! And go towards the unknown with courage – that is the way for the modern explorer, and that is the only compass you will need. Have an awesome trip! Let us all 2000 campers join into one great audience to follow the campâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s opening ceremony, the great bonfire and the closing ceremony. Let us enjoy together the catchy atmosphere, the intense excitement and the vibrant camp sing-a-longs. We shall laugh and sing together, join in to games and shouts, see musical theater and see what happens to Eemeli in the dream world and into what kind of adventures his friends get into.

Survive!!!! In the Survive valley you get to unload all the extra energy that the camp kitchens have given you. Obstacles and challenges are not a problem when you come to our Extreme-course. Also agility and cooperation will reward the contestants. Scout-Rambo, this is your valley! Good and sturdy footwear is necessary when you come to this valley. Welcome!

Food valley Food valley is a program valley where, as the name suggests, make food and of course eat it. Every camper cooks with their group one or two meals during the camp. Cubs, adventurers and trackers will get both instructions and ingredients for the meal. In the food valley the meals will be done in five person groups and the ingredients are measured according to this. Explorers, rovers and adults will make the meals by the recipe they have made themselves. They can pick the ingredients from the selection available at the valley. Rovers can also choose to take part cooking a “Mad Cook” special meal…and also eating it. In the Food valley there are work stations where the meals are done. Every group will clean this work station, do the dishes and recycle any waste.

All groups coming to the Food valley must have the following equipment with them: • Trangia or other field cooker that has two different sized pots and a frying pan. • Fuel for this cooker (gas or liquid fuel) • Matches or a lighter • Knife • Wooden spatula and a wooden fork • Two (2) small ladels • Chopping knife, a sharp one • Smaller vegetable knife, also sharp • Peeling knife • Chopping board, approximately 20 x 30 cm • Whisker • 1 deciliter measure or a cup • Cutlery (knife, fork, spoon and a teaspoon) • Roll of kitchen towels (paper) • Dish brush • Scrubbing sponge • Plastic plates, at least two (2) • Your own meal kit so you can eat your meal! In the sun units the common equipment can be cycled through the groups.

Do you have a small T.U.R.B.O, an energetic B.O.L.T., or a sturdy T.A.N.K inside you? Come and find out and play HC! The game is a traditional team versus team ball game that has good stuff from films, school sport and P.E. classes and other things. The games will start on 2nd of August, Thursday night and will go on until the finalists are found. HuimaCup winner will be sought out on Friday during the Night of the Arts! The game is suitable for everybody and scouts and guides natural athleticism is more than enough. The detailed rules will be kept secret for the sake of the element of surprise and equality. The game is played in mixed teams and the teams and the timetable will be announced at Huima if not before. Winners will receive medals, surprise prizes and with the greatest respect available.

Scou-tptiroject Camp visit

What is SCOUTTI?

SCOUTTI-project arranges in addition to the camp program on Huima a multicultural camp visit 1.-2.8. The aim of the visit is to introduce the visitors to the camp and to the local scouts and guides. To really introduce the visitors to their local scouting community, the visitors will go around the different program valleys with their local troopâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s scouts and guides.

SCOUTTI is the Uusimaa Scouts and Guides multiculturalism project that aims to advance the understanding of other cultures and customs and to make scouting familiar to multicultural families.

SCOUTTI-point

From the SCOUTTI-point you can get boardgames and other ways to spend your free time at the camp. The point also arranges various surprise events. The SCOUTTI-point has a critical task in the Tracers-roleplaying game to act as the contact point for the tracing. The point gives out information about multicultural scouting and the Finnish Red Cross.

The project has been funded by the Uusimaa Regional Council, Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment and the PĂ¤ivikki and Sakari Sohlberg foundation. The three-year project has its culmination point at Huima. SCOUTTI-project has six local cooperation troops that have been working with the project. These local troops have arranged camps and events specially aimed towards the immigrants in the region. Super -Thursday is filled with action! Now you get to participate in the HuimaCup. HuimaCup 2012 will be held on Thursday at the games arena and the finale will be on the Night of the Arts. The teams and the timetable will be found at the Tracker notice board, located at the central plaza

FuRy-point: Fun with RecYcling What kind of stuff can you make out of recycled materials? Come along and be creative. Make Huima’s best and coolest jewelry for yourself or as a gift. Out of the Box Out of the Box OBS!

You get to travel around the world and try to live like a refugee. In esterata you will challenge yourself in new environment. How do you hang your laundry if you don’t see it? Piece of cake isn’t so sweet. In Studio5 you can be a part of news cast. How many stamps you will get to your passport or do you get a passport at all..? Valley is two-parted. In other part you will need little hammer and color pen/marker.

Come And Do Come and do activities are a change to your day and routines. You can find them all over the camp and you can come whenever you want.

Midst of a conflict Tracker! Have you got the courage to step into someone else’s boots and be dropped into the midst of a conflict? • Do you want to challenge yourself both physically and mentally? • Have you ever watched the news and thought, what if I was running away from there? What if my country was in a conflict and I had to escape? At Huima you have a unique possibility to challenge yourself and take part in the Midst of conflict –role play. The event is arranged with the cooperation of Suomenlinna Red Cross and the SCOUTTI-team. Come and experience the first Midst of conflict role play in scouting history. Program for rovers and adults Mörk Ö -klubben

At the Mörk Ö –klubben rovers will get to challenge themselves at a completely new environment. While trying to keep up with the Blind Chef the rovers will find out new culinary experiences, at the Dark Casino the well-known games will get new elements to them, and in the Murky Company you will meet new friends. Come to find out if you are afraid of the dark. When you come to the Mörk Ö- klubben you must leave all light sources (flashlights, digital watches, mobile phones) at your tent. When you are going with the Blind Chef, you need to take your meal kit with you.

Morning exercise Every morning there is a morning exercise available for all rovers and adults. Come early to stretch your muscles after the night in the tent. Every second morning the exercise will be Tai Chi warm up movements and every other morning it will be the six set of calisthenics designed by Colonel Baden-Powel. You will need to take with you suitable clothing, a drinking bottle and a mattress. During rainy days the exercise will be held under a canopy. The exercise will start every morning at 7:00 and

The Blacksmith’s Shope

The furnace is hot and the steel waits for the hammer to fall. Come and strike the iron while it is hot. You can forge your own item, either for your own use or as a gift. The Blacksmith’s Shoppe has both blacksmiths and apprentices to guide the campers in the arts of blacksmithing. Come and grab the hammer!

The Welfare corps At the camp your welfare is being taken care of by the Huima Welfare corps. Take a moment to yourself and get to know our services. All camp workers and troop leaders are entitled to the services.

HuimaSpa

HuimaSpa is an oasis of pleasure for the body and mind meant for the work weary rovers and adults. A moment of pampering in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the camp. More details can be found at the troop leader folder.

Restaurant Jazz Do you need some change to the everyday routines of the camp? Come and enjoy the Restaurant Jazzâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s gourmet food and musical atmosphere. Please do note that the restaurant is available only through reservations. Please do the reservations through your troop leader or directly to the restaurant.

StaabPoint StaabPoint offers all leader ages short, temporary tasks and posts all around Huima. Come and grab yourself a task and get to know the inner workings of the camp, only for an afternoon if not longer! Leaders already tasked can offer their help and get experience from different posts around the camp.

Scout Race Kaimo?

Gilwell meeting, Saturday 4.8. 14:30 (2:30 PM) at art café Karhu. In Finland we are crazy people. We have to race in everything The Gilwell meeting brings to- - also in scouting and guiding gether the newbies and those skills. In Huima we have Scout with the “knobs” (Wood Badge Race Kaimo. To get in you need a Gilwell for all senses - ofcourse! Kaimo is scarf or the Wood Badge beads. a word from same language and means a misty memory from something that happended. There is four different divisions to different ages and genders. Orange and green divisions are day races and red and blue divisions are night-over races. All rangers and explorers are welcome to take a part of the most awesome scout race in Finlands history. Ask more info about scout race from international team or your own sub unit leader as soon as possible.

NIGHT OF THE ARTS Night of the Arts is an open doors night to the camp program. This means that you can come and try any and all of the programs offered to any of the age groups. The night is also filled with different workshops where you among other things get to make instruments for the Great Bonfire, hone your dance choreographies, practice circus skills such as juggling and magic tricks, and a lot of other things suiting the mystical atmosphere of the Night of the Arts. During the night of the Arts all the Come and Do –activities (CDA) are available for all campers.

The major spectacle of the Night of the Arts is the Huivate –fashion show where the local troops have prepared different outfits only by using their scarfs. Huivate –show is at the main stage at 9 PM. During the night there is an evening snack offered to the whole camp at the camp restaurant McMaistimus. The details of the program and the workshops will be published in the camp news paper Roiske.

The Visiting Day Visiting day is not only for guests, but it is also brings You, camper, a lot of fun and different program. All troops build a muscle powered go-kart and a market stall. You can visit the market stalls and get to know the different troops and the things what the local units are doing. You can vote for the best market stall at the central plaza.

In the same time as the market day is going, the muscle powered go-karts race on the airfield, just next to the troops. Go and cheer your team to victory! The winners for the best market stall and the go-kart race will be announced and awarded at the end of the day. Come and do â&#x20AC;&#x201C;activities will be open all day long.

Yarr! We at Koukku have such a good atmosphere that it is almost criminal. Just don’t be landlubbers… The pirate-themed camp offers excitement in events such as in the scavenger hunt. The fun sea-feeling can be found all around the subcamp, from the captains quarters (subcamp office) to the subcamp’s own evening. The fleet’s best pirate outfit will be rewarded, so prepare your parrots and wooden legs!

u p p m o P Welcome to Pomppu! If you will write to a guestbook of Pomppu you are in the draw of chocolate goods!

The shimmering ponds at the camp site gave their name to the bright yellow family camp Pomppu. The family camp gives the Huima camp experience also to the parents of small children and kids “just-not-enough-old”. The aim is to lower the threshold to take part in local troop activities – why would anyone want to take a seven year break from their favorite hobby? Pomppu accommodates fathers, mothers, grandmothers, and godmothers and of course the kids: ranging from few month old toddlers to seven years old just-not-yet-scouts-and-guides. All Pomppu-campers will take part in camp posts either so that one of the parents takes care of the children or the parents alternate between the camp task and the childcare. The range of posts and tasks is wide: from working in the family camp kitchen and general camp kitchen to program valley workers and to building the family camp to temporary troop leader replacements. Breakfast and evening-snacks, and washing up are arranged in a communal manner in Pomppu. The camp families live in their own tents and get together to the communal facilities at the family camp. The daily routines at Pomppu is coordinated by Pomppu’s duty manager. He or she can also answer any questions concerning programs. Pomppu is filled with hustle and bustle. The campers staying at Pomppu can enjoy the program

in some of the troops and in their own local troops. In addition of taking part in the general programs of the camp, Pomppu offers plenty of things to do: toddler first aid, mush-school, and family camp Olympics. There is something for all of the age groups: 0-2 year olds, 3-4 year olds, 5-7 year olds, notyet-scouts-and-guide adults and experienced scout and guide adults. And of course, sometimes the best thing to do is just to sit down around the bonfire with some hot chocolate, have your own kid on your knee and tell them exciting stories from previous camps and hikes. Or just lay down under the trees, look at the sky and the clouds, and just enjoy life.

Safety and security Safety is all in all, also at Huima. At the camp there is a first aid –team, security personnel and fire and rescue –team to make sure that everyone has a safe and fun camp experience. The safety and security office is at the end of the HQ building. Open fires at the camp is absolutely prohibited without the permission from the safety and security office. Troop leaders! Go through the basics of first aid with your leaders when the camp starts!

Security Security personnel in their yellow vests ensure that the camp site is safe and orderly. They make sure that people find their way around the camp, make sure that there are no extra people in the camp and prevent any crime or accident from happening. The security office is next to the First aid center.

Fire and rescue

And remember, it is better to be Fire and rescue ensures that safe than sorry, so think before lost people are found and that you do! the forest doesn’t burn down. Swimming at camp The beach at Huima is located in the north side of the camp, at the end of the R채ysk채l채 airfield runway. You can go swimming with an adult leader during your free time. There are lifeguards at the beach on behalf of the camp organization. Because there is air traffic on the airfield during the camp, there will be security personnel on stand-by at the end of the runway guiding campers to the beach safely, if necessary.

Camp structures at Huima Dining Shelter Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll start the building of the shelter by making two A shaped structures from poles. If needed you can attach supportive poles on the sides for seating.

Then add to the shelter either poles or board to make a table surface. Finish the shelter with a roof made of tarp.

General Shelter If you wish to have more height in your shelter, it can be done by tightening a tie down strap or by tying a rope between trees and putting a tarp over the strap/rope.

Konna-kiosk The sweetest place in Awesome Huima is the Konna Kiosk. Kiosk’s selection of sweets has flavours for everyone, from the safe and familiar to the new and exciting. The kiosk is located in the middle of the camp area in the Central Plaza and is open daily. Everyone is welcome!

Art Café Karhu

Art Café Karhu is Huima’s café for leaders, offering coffee, music, good atmosphere and pleasure for all your senses. Our café serves all rangers, rovers and adults. From our kitchen you’ll get Awesome muffins and delicious toasts straight from the oven. Do not miss our café’s memorable events during the camp! With emotion and skill a classy and inimitable Art Café Karhu is born!

Pop-Up CAFE Pop-Up Café for adults is near to the camp’s kitchen. Pop in to relax and find out what the Awesome Huima pastries and other treats taste like. Pop-Up opens it’s doors at seven o’clock in the evening and closes when the last customer leaves. Bring your own cup and some cash!

Camp Merchandise Huima has two camp merchandise shops. One is located adjacent to the Konna kiosk in the Central Plaza, it’s easy to find already on the first day. Second shop is on the edge of the camp area next to Art Café Karhu, so you can even have a cup of coffee when trying on the camp shirts. The camp merchandise shops have only carefully chosen products like camp shirts, buff-scarf, mug, hammock, backpack…

Multicultural coffee evening SCOUTTI and the international team have a multicultural coffee evening in Art Café Karhu. The event includes: world music disco, half-open-stage and other entertainment. To this event we invite everyone who’s a tracker or older. Also all the foreign scouts and guides and immigrant youngsters visiting the camp are welcome. Half-open-stage welcomes all kinds of performances from everyone who is participating in the coffee evening. You can sign up for half-open-stage in SCOUTTI and international team office during the opening hours.

Swopping comes from the word ‘swop’ which means to trade. You can change some scout and guide badges with foreign scouts and guides, this is called swopping and it’s popular especially on big camps. Remember that you can’t swop decoration badges. Both parties need to be satisfied with the swop. Good things to swop are, among others, badges of merit, district badges and your local group badges.
