L AUREN L . | BIOME DIC A L E NGINE E RING After I graduate in Spring 2022, I plan to enroll in graduate school right here at UWM and pursue a career in rehab with prosthetics and orthotics. Thanks to you, I will be able to achieve my goals quicker. By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden, which has allowed me to focus more on school. Your generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me. SK Y L ER C. | C OMP U T E R E NGINE E RING Thank you to my scholarship donors for helping me work towards achieving my academic goals. My parents grew up in Milwaukee, and my mother is a UWM alumna. UWM has been a great fit for me, and I am excited for what my future holds for me here. These scholarships are very important to me because I am responsible for my educational costs. I am a hard worker and strive to do my best academically. With the rigorous requirements for my degree, this support allows me more time to focus on studying, and to take advantage of all that UWM has to offer and learn the most I can from my education. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

MONIQUE M. | MASTER OF HUMAN RESOURCES & LABOR RELATIONS The importance of receiving this award is more significant than you can ever imagine. Not only does it represent to others that it is never too late to further your education, but with hard work, dedication and perseverance, anything is possible. I have said many times in the last several years, no one can take away your education. Indeed, it is priceless. This award is not only a personal achievement, but an achievement representing and honoring all the students in this program who work tirelessly at achieving their goal of obtaining their degree. We (students, professors, staff) all have had more challenges than we signed up for in the last 18 months and this award represents victory for all! Again, I thank you - I am honored to be the recipient of this award. A L E X A NDER K . | PH YSIC S Scholarships like these help lighten the financial load on my family as well. In my first couple weeks of my senior year of high school, I was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Although I am done with my treatment, my family still feels the financial effects of it. This award means more than I can express. I am very grateful to the donors for their generosity.

MATTHEW B. | MS NURSING I’d like to thank the generous donors of this scholarship for helping to finance my education. I recognize that the opportunity to pursue higher education is an enormous privilege. With your financial support, I can spend less mental energy concerned about paying for school and devote more of my attention to my studies and my family, bringing me and my wife greater peace of mind. As a result, I feel that I can bring my best self to all the important tasks of work, school, and raising a family. Thank you. M A DISON H. | NUR SING Having a desire to be a student within UWM’s Nursing program and being able to afford it are two separate things. This scholarship helped me pursue my career sooner than later. I am grateful to have the opportunity to attend UWM immediately out of high school and be able to join the nursing school without having to stress about financials. Studies alone can be stressful enough. This scholarship helps relieve this financial stress and allows me to focus on my education. I was fortunate to have been accepted into the College of Nursing after my first two years of college and remain on track to graduate within my four-year plan. This timeline could not have been achieved without the help of this scholarship. I remain grateful for this opportunity.

ALYSSA M. | MS EDUCATION Receiving this scholarship means the world to me. The scholarship will help me greatly financially, but is also an award of such empowerment, showing me and my fellow educators that what we do is supported by people who care. DEEPAK A. | EXECUTIVE MBA This scholarship means a lot to me and my family, and it will most certainly help in shaping my career as a social entrepreneur and an inspirational leader. Coming from a diverse background, working as an immigrant, and studying in the U.S. (the first one in my family to do so), I never had envisioned myself being awarded a scholarship for such a prestigious program. This is one of the most precious moments of my life.

JAY DEN R . | MS C RIMIN A L JUS T IC E This scholarship will help lift some burden off of me, so I can focus more on my education and achieving my long-term career goals. Being able to concentrate more on school will assist me in continuing my degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and, hopefully, ultimately receive a doctoral degree. Thank you very much for this opportunity, it will make a tremendous difference for me next year. I truly appreciate your generosity. S T EPH A NIE S. | SOCI A L W OR K I am a social work student with a minor in criminal justice and an LGBTQ+ studies certificate. This is my third year at UWM, and I am a firstgeneration student. In the coming years, I hope to become a public policy attorney working on the back-end side of social services where I can directly advocate for the needs of the people. I want to say thank you for choosing me to support with this scholarship. I appreciate the opportunity to better focus on my goals and dreams. I love to learn, and this takes some pressure off me, allowing me to put all my energy into my last year at UWM. I am so grateful to have been able to attend this school and to be able to achieve my goals here as well.

A L E X IS G. | BIOME DIC A L SCIE NC E S, P R E -ME D Thank you for choosing me, reminding me that my dream is who I am and to never give up on it. You’ve put your faith in me and I will prove to you that I am worth it. NICK Q . | HIS T OR Y I know I cannot fully express what this scholarship means to me, as it is something that cannot always be put into words. The ability to further my learning and to gain new experiences is something I have always valued, and I know too many examples of that same love and ability being stifled for monetary reasons, so the fact that I have the opportunity to pursue my goals and dreams, makes me feel incredibly lucky, and unspeakably grateful for the opportunity bestowed upon me.

DA NE T TA P. | P UBL IC HE A LT H This scholarship not only helps me financially but also mentally and emotionally. I take pride in my academics while managing being a single mother, working a part-time job and trying to stay organized. Throughout my semesters at the University, I have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.9. This scholarship will help me continue to focus on my academics by alleviating financial struggles that come with being in college. Thank you so much for selecting me as a recipient and I will try my hardest to continue to make you proud. M A DEL INE A . | M A S T E R OF P UBL IC HE A LT H My family cannot offer financial or educational support to me while I’m attending school. A scholarship affords me the opportunity to go forward in my degree and pursue my research interests unhindered by a full-time job. I am an unpaid caregiver to both of my grandparents as they enter their last stage of life in palliative and hospice care. To balance this while working and studying would be nearly impossible. This support not only helps me financially, but it also reduces emotional stress and betters my quality of life while attending graduate school. This gives me the opportunity to put my studies and family first without having to worry about loans and making rent as well.

PAOL O G. | MECH A NIC A L E NGINE E RING Your support has greatly assisted my learning this semester both in the classroom and in my personal life. Additionally, I’ve been able to maintain my 4.0 GPA in the classroom. Traveling for soccer while attending school online was difficult, but thanks to your support I was able to focus on my schooling and maintain my academic goals. BROOK E C. | E DUC AT ION I am so very thankful to be awarded this scholarship. Education has always been very important to me, which is why I want to be a teacher. I’ve had so many great teachers that have inspired me, and I want to help others in the same way. I am so grateful for this scholarship and the support it will provide in my school and career. I am a student-athlete at UWM, which means my schedule is pretty busy between studying, classes, and practices, and I won’t have the same amount of time as a normal student has to work. This scholarship will help me in making sure I have all the resources I need to get the best possible experience at UW-Milwaukee. So thank you again, your support means so much to me and I can’t wait to make the most of it during my next years at UWM!
Peck School of the Arts
C AT HERINE S. | T HE AT E R I want to deeply thank you for your support and this award. A personal goal of mine is to pay for as much of my schooling as I can on my own merit to reduce the financial stress placed on my mother, father and stepmother. This scholarship will help me to continue funding my education in a financially responsible way, and your generosity has allowed me to work towards meeting that goal going into my sophomore year. Knowing that you have faith in me as a student, my education and my dreams for the future is heartening and encourages me to continue striving towards the future in these next years. Just as importantly, this scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies and becoming a part of the UWM theatre community. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. S T ONE L . | MUSIC There are many challenges when it comes to making music for a living. Studying music is a pursuit of passion, though it leaves you financially vulnerable. I am so grateful for this scholarship because it has opened the door for me to live a life full of music, and I aim to spread generosity, kindness and love through that music.

K H A RI B. | M A S T E R OF URB A N P L A NNING I am honored to be given an award in the name of Welford Sanders. The remarkable work in low-income communities of color that he has accomplished in Milwaukee inspires the work I wish to do. I hope that this scholarship is the beginning of the greater impact I desire to have in communities similar to the ones that Mr. Sanders helped build. M A RIN A F. | A R CHI T EC T UR E To be recognized for merit as a woman and a Mexican American creates hope for the future, hope to see a room full architects from various cultural and economic backgrounds, and hope for other young minorities to become relentless in pursuit of their dreams and to ultimately make them into a reality. This scholarship has without a doubt lifted a financial weight off my shoulders and has also given me a bit more confidence in my studies, and for this, I am filled with so much indescribable gratitude. Thank you so much for the privilege and recognition; I am extremely humbled.

N AT H A N V. | MS F R E SH WAT E R SCIE NC E S & T ECHNOL OGY I am filled with gratitude for and humbled by people who are willing to donate to scholarship funds like this one. Scholarship money provides me and my family a financial safety blanket. But perhaps even more, it provides affirmation that someone out there believes in me, values the choices I’ve made and supports the vision I have for my life. M A NUEL Q . | MS F R E SH WAT E R SCIE NC E S & T ECHNOL OGY I am a graduate student from Ayacucho, Peru. I have my bachelor’s degree as an environmental engineer. My study interest as a graduate student is in groundwater pollutions such as PFAS and microplastics. I am an obstacle course runner, and I classified for the OCR World Championship in 2018. I like playing sports more than watching them. I always want to have a balance between sports and study because sports help me to organize my life. I like to be challenged not only physically but also mentally. It is an honor to receive this scholarship from you. I hope I can make a difference in the future as you are making a difference for many UWM students with your scholarship.

Y IFA N Z . | PHD INF OR M AT ION S T UDIE S I have long been interested in how people search for information and how fake information has negative effects on people’s daily lives. Such phenomena motivated me to focus my research topic on human informationseeking behaviors. This award has lightened my financial burden, which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school: learning. EEL ISA J. | MS INF OR M AT ION SCIE NC E & T ECHNOL OGY I was drawn to the information studies field by my undergraduate background in philosophy and my professional experience in information management, data analysis, data-based storytelling and programming. I am very grateful to be awarded this fellowship, which will empower me to engage more freely with my intellectual development through academic study.

DAYUN D. | ACCOUNTING I am a nontraditional student. I have an insane amount of credits because I transferred while so far into my previous major at UW-Madison. Changing schools, departments and degree types was such a huge and crucial decision that I made, and has resulted in much more time, effort and finances needed to attain my bachelor’s degree. This scholarship means so many things to me. It means one less loan taken this upcoming semester, one less opportunity cost, more time invested in my studies and extracurricular activities, and it means a second wind to complete this final semester. It is reassurance that I am close, I will finish, I will graduate, and I am more than thankful for receiving this scholarship. Thank you! LIAM F. | URBAN STUDIES I have been saving for college since I got a job when I was 14, but the reality is that the money I have saved will hardly put a dent in my college tuition costs. This scholarship will allow me to be able to use the money I have saved up until now for living expenses so that I don’t need to work a full-time job during the semester. This will help me focus more on my academics as well as the opportunities that I will have during college, like clubs, undergraduate research and studying abroad. I am so grateful to be awarded this scholarship and am really looking forward to the start of my academic journey at UWM. Thank you! 27
