THANK YOU FOR GIVING YOUR TIME TO COORDINATE THIS YEAR’S UNITED WAY COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN FOR YOUR WORKPLACE — AND FOR HELPING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF SO MANY WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY BY LEADING THE CHARGE TO HELP RAISE DOLLARS IN SUPPORT OF NONPROFIT PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND INITIATIVES. TOGETHER, we’ll find the best way to

build a stronger community and help our hard-working families.

You’ll find all the information you need to lead a successful campaign. And remember, you’re not alone. The staff at United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut is always available to assist you – because it’s through working together that we find the most success!

BEFORE CAMPAIGN •M eet with your United Way representative and review last year’s results to create an action plan for this year. He/She will provide you with your company’s campaign history and will discuss strategies and recommendations for this year’s campaign. •C all us at 860.493.6800 if your workplace has never participated in a United Way Campaign or you don’t know your representative. •M eet with your CEO or management team to set goals and ask them to endorse the campaign and encourage employee participation. •R ecruit a strong internal campaign team representing a wide range of employees – especially those who are already United Way volunteers. •A sk a member of senior management to chair Leadership Investing efforts (contributions of $1,000 or more). •S tart planning special events and activities to raise awareness about United Way’s work in the areas of education, family financial security, health and basic needs. •O rder your campaign materials, download templates, request a United Way speaker and find other resources from our online toolkit – unitedwayinc.org/toolkit. •P ost campaign information and events on your workplace intranet and link to unitedwayinc.org. •S end out endorsement letters and/or emails from your CEO.

DURING CAMPAIGN • Hold employee group meetings.* •H ost a fun Campaign Kickoff event to get everyone excited about giving back to our community through United Way. •E ngage people with special events such as a bake sale, bike race, breakfast with the boss, dunk tanks, dress-down days and more!

•E ncourage employees to volunteer for your workplace’s United Way Year of Caring project.** • I nspire colleagues by sharing United Way-provided stories of local people who have benefited from United Way-supported programs, services and initiatives. •S hare information on United Way membership opportunities such as Women’s Leadership Council and Emerging Leaders Society. •P lan a special outreach from senior management to current or prospective leadership investors. A contribution of $1,000 or more qualifies for membership in United Way’s Constitution Society. •U pdate employees throughout the campaign, sharing progress via newsletters, intranet and email. •F ollow-up with anyone who hasn’t pledged.

POST-CAMPAIGN •C omplete the campaign report envelope and contact your United Way representative to arrange a pickup. •H old a ‘thank you’ event to celebrate the campaign results. • Thank contributors and everyone who helped with the campaign – recognize them publicly through your company’s intranet or other communication channels. •S chedule a meeting with your United Way representative to review results, what worked and what you might want to do differently next year.

YEAR-ROUND OPPORTUNITIES In addition to participating in a campaign, there are many other opportunities to partner with United Way to engage employees throughout the year such as: •O ne-time and ongoing individual and group volunteer experiences. •O n-site facilitated group activity with your employees to raise awareness about the challenges facing lower-income working families.
