FRENCHAY

OPEN DAY your experience starts now 17 November 2018

TODAY IS JUST THE START Going to university is about more than just getting a qualification. You should leave equipped with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to make an impact. A degree from UWE Bristol means experience that will complement your education. From work placements and sports, to volunteering and networking, we’ll help you get the most from your opportunities. So instead of showing employers what you can do, you’ll be able to show them what you’ve done. That’s the UWE Bristol 360° experience. Everyone and everything here shares a single purpose: to make sure that you’re well-positioned for the future you want. Our focus on real-world learning experiences means that when you graduate you’ll be adaptable, enterprising and ready for work. We have connections with over 1,000 national and international employers and one of the largest paid internship programmes in the UK. So you'll enjoy a richer, fuller, more relevant learning experience which will increase your employability.

Today is your chance to find this out for yourself. Meet passionate academic staff and talk to enthusiastic students about their own adventures. Find out about all the extra-curricular activities you can get involved in. Love sports? Music? Debating or volunteering? The opportunities are endless, so make sure you take a tour of our facilities and all they can offer you. And finally, don‘t forget to have a look around Bristol before you leave. We’re biased, of course, but it’s hard to think of a better UK city to study and live in. Welcome to the start of your UWE Bristol experience.

What now? • Check your ticket for your Sign-in Point, and make your way there to let us know you’ve arrived. The Sign-in Point is open between 9:00 and 13:30. • Head over to the Information and Advice Zone. This is where you can book yourself on tours of campus and the beautiful city of Bristol. • Browse the next few pages for information on talks, tours and other activities throughout the day. 1

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DAY From subject-specific talks to campus tours and drop-in sessions, today is your chance to experience what it’s like to study at UWE Bristol for yourself. Learning and teaching • Attend a department overview talk for a welcome to the department running your course. Find out about our approach to learning and teaching. • Head over to a course talk for more information about the programme you’re interested in. • And don’t forget our drop-ins with academic staff – your opportunity to ask teaching staff all your burning questions. Tours – book in at the Information and Advice Zone • Get the full Frenchay experience by taking a guided campus tour of our buildings and grounds. Alternatively pick up one of our self-guided tour print outs and choose your own route. • Whether you fancy campus life or the buzz of the city, we’ve got accommodation to suit everyone. Drop-in and visit our open accommodation to get a taster of living on campus. • Don’t head home without taking a look around our beautiful city. Take a city tour and discover for yourself why Bristol is frequently voted the UK’s best place to live.

Information and Advice Zone • From practical advice on the application process, to information about the range of support on offer, our experts are on hand to help guide you through the process of getting to university. Extra-curricular activities • Explore our £5.5m Centre for Sport, providing fantastic facilities, activities and classes. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a complete beginner or a high-performing athlete – you’ll find everything you need here to keep active. • Choose from around 200 societies, from astronomy and animation, to virtual reality and yoga. Check out the Students' Union building where many of our societies meet, and look out for demos and exhibitions around campus during the day. • You’ll find your musical outlet at our Centre for Music, whether you’re a born performer or happier behind the scenes. Take a look around and explore what’s on offer. Take a break • We have a number of restaurants, cafes and shops on Frenchay Campus, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when you want to refuel. • You’ll also find complementary refreshments in each academic department, and in the Information and Advice Zone.

Finding your way All our buildings are identified by letters of the alphabet, from A block to X block. Keep an eye out for the big labelled cubes around campus to help you find the block you’re looking for. If you get lost or have any questions during your day, please come and speak to one of our team of staff and Student Ambassadors. We’re here to help. Or if you’re on Twitter, tweet your questions to our social media team using the hashtag #UWEOpenDay. @UWEBristol
