High School at University The University of Winnipeg Collegiate (UWC) is located in historic Wesley Hall (built in 1888), and offers our students an exceptional high school program. UWC is unique as it is the only full high school program within a university in Canada. As a university preparatory school, our faculty, tutoring staff, and full-time international student advisor help ensure that our students are on a path to success.

The Collegiate philosophy emphasizes the need for students to become mature individuals within an atmosphere of self-generated discipline, where students can discover freedom and its complement — responsibility. Your Pathway to University Regular High School Program UWC offers outstanding university preparation for high school students in Grade 9, 10, 11, and 12. UWinnipeg Pre-University Pathway Program (UW-PUPP) The UW Collegiate offers students an exceptional pre-university pathway program. The UW-PUPP program is intended for academically strong students who do not currently meet university undergraduate entrance requirements. The UW-PUPP program connects high achieving students from around the world to obtain their Canadian Secondary credentials in an environment with an established tradition of academic excellence. Upon successful completion of the UWinnipeg Pre-University Pathway Program, students earn a Manitoba High School Diploma and are eligible to begin their undergraduate degree studies at The University of Winnipeg, or to apply to any other University/College of their choosing.

Life on Campus A high school experience at the Collegiate is like no other in Manitoba. Located on The University of Winnipeg campus, students have access to the same facilities as UWinnipeg students, plus a home base inside our very own “castle” — Wesley Hall. Downtown Location Located steps away from all of downtown’s shopping and amenities, students can enjoy the vibrant community and diverse culture of downtown Winnipeg.

The Collegiate is a member of the Manitoba High School Athletics Association. Our teams compete at a provincial level in basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field.

Collegiate students can also participate in numerous Collegiate clubs including: Chess, Debate, Gay and Straight Alliance, Mathematics Contest, Collegiate Newspaper, Reach for the Top, Student Council, Yearbook and Photography, and Youth in Philanthropy.

The Collegiate Advantage The University of Winnipeg Collegiate (UWC) has established a tradition of academic excellence over the past 50 years, and is proud to offer high school programs that provide an ideal transition to post-secondary education. Seamless Admission to UWinnipeg Graduating Collegiate students who meet entrance requirements to UWinnipeg automatically receive seamless admission into undergraduate studies. They will receive an offer of acceptance in January before being offered formal admission in April, when final Grade 12 marks are available.

Dual-Credit Courses Qualified students can accelerate their learning at UWC by taking dual-credit courses in their Grade 12 year. Dual-credit courses are introductory first-year university courses that students can use for credit toward both their high school diploma and an eligible university degree. We also offer university credit courses that help students transition to university studies including Intro to University (MULT-1000) and Academic Writing (RHET-1105).

EAL-Credit Courses Our unique high school program provides international students with English language and social studies instruction at the ‘E’ (EAL) designated level, in addition to integrated academic instruction at the ‘S’ (Specialized) designated level.

Customized Academic and Student Support UWC’s full-time international student advisor assists students with academic planning and ongoing academic and student support services throughout their high school program. International Collegiate students receive assistance and guidance in completing applications for university/college programs. In addition, a dedicated scholarship office assists students with their applications for scholarships and awards for their post-secondary studies.

UWC closely conforms to The University of Winnipeg academic year, providing students with a more thorough preparation for university studies. The schedule allows qualifying Grade 12 students to take university courses as well as high school courses in the same study session.

There are two study sessions per academic year. Fall/Winter session runs from September* to April and Spring session runs from May to June. *Grade 12 students are required to start their academic program in August.

Collegiate Course Offerings UWC offers a wide variety of courses in the Arts, Science and Technology, and Humanities. Collegiate students complete a minimum of 30 credits in order to graduate, including 19 compulsory credits, plus electives that prepare them to reach future goals and meet university entrance requirements. Explore Canada

High School at University

Your Chance to Explore Every year, in conjunction with Nacel Canada HSP, UWC offers international students a customized tour/adventure to a destination in Canada. Adventures can include sightseeing popular Canadian cities and skiing in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Trip details will be provided to students prior to the start of the academic year. Students can choose to opt in at the time of application and include their trip deposit with their tuition payment.


Canadian History

The University of Winnipeg Collegiate

A Month of Canadian History The University of Winnipeg Collegiate engages in a unique approach to earning the Canadian History credit, required for the Manitoba High School Diploma. All new international students (Grade 12) arrive in August to participate in a month full of interactive learning, both on-campus and at historical and cultural sites in Winnipeg. Through this unique approach, students learn about the history of Canada, experience Canadian culture first-hand, and become orientated with the city of Winnipeg and the UWC campus, prior to the start of the regular academic year, which begins in September.

Accommodations International students have two options for accommodations during their time at The University of Winnipeg Collegiate; Homestay and UWinnipeg residence, however Homestay is mandatory for students under 18. UWinnipeg Homestay Homestay is a great way to help you adjust to life in Winnipeg, practice your English language skills, and learn about Canadian life and culture. International Collegiate students will be matched with an English-speaking host family in Winnipeg. You can expect a private, furnished bedroom; internet; and three meals a day. UWinnipeg Residence Living in residence at The University of Winnipeg gives you the opportunity to live on your own, without being alone. Residence options on campus include new, modern single and double dorm-style units, as well as nearby homes that have been renovated to provide single, furnished rooms with a shared kitchen and living space.

International Fees To be considered full-time, students must be registered in five or more courses. Full-time students will be assessed a flat tuition fee, which includes the Fall/Winter and Spring terms. Students taking fewer than five courses will be assessed a course fee of $3,280 per credit. The University of Winnipeg offers an exclusive scholarship for International students. The President’s Scholarship will be given to international students entering any of the University’s divisions for the first time. The value of the scholarship is $3,500. There will be up to three scholarships available. Applicants must have a minimum 80% admission average (or equivalent), and must be involved in activities that demonstrate leadership. How to Apply

How to Apply The Collegiate would be honoured to have you join our high achieving community of learners. The steps below are an overview of the application process — details will be provided at each step of the process.

Submit the completed international student application package.

Upon receipt of the tuition deposit, the Collegiate will issue your “Official Acceptance Package”.

Conduct a registration session and pre-arrival session (in person or via Skype) with the international student advisor.

02. Interview and Assessment A Skype interview and in-house written assessment will be conducted after submission of the application package.

03. Offer of Acceptance

The package will include documents that you will need to submit to the Canadian High Commission. A Custodian Declaration (for students under 18) will also be provided.

07. Orientation Attend an orientation session upon arrival. Note: An English language assessment may be conducted to confirm your grade level placement.

Successful applicants will be notified by email with an “Offer of Acceptance” letter. The letter will confirm grade level placement and request a full tuition deposit to be paid prior to the release of your “Official Acceptance Package”.

Apply Early UWC accepts applications throughout the calendar year. However, because visa processing times vary, it is recommended to apply as soon as possible. Students who apply by March 31 qualify for a $500 tuition credit.
