Like lightning she startles them. Her thunder leaves them in awe. They admire her beauty. At the same time, fell daunted by her. She then retreats. And waits for the clouds to collide. So she can strike again. -Nimrah Fatima Ahmed

part two : the site 2.2 SITE WIND DIRECTIONS AND HEAT MAP

2.4 SITE JUSTIFICATION LOCATION A women empowerment center should be centrally located for women from all walks of life to be able to access it. WOMEN FOR WOMEN The concept “Women for Women” emphasizes not on weak women supporting other weak women but it visualizes a harmonious society where the privileged section of women help the under privileged women to uplift themselves. HIGH CLASS UNITED WITH LOW CLASS To visualize this concept, Tolichowki is a perfect location as it is an amalgamation of high class society as well as low class societies. People living in high profile residential colonies, and poor people living in tin shade shelters, both can be found here. ERASING THE BARRIERS This site because of its vicinity to both kinds of societies, will be a perfect access location as women belonging to both the societies will not feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar going there.

2.3 SITE VICINITY Aziz bagh colony Adityanagar colony Aruna colony Aravindnagar colony

uzma tahreem | 12131AA028 | dspa

SAFETY FIRST A woman always feels uncomfortable visiting places that are unfamiliar to her. And because she will be most probably alone during her visits to the center, safety is a major factor. The site, closely located to the main road negates this issue. The area is majorly residential and negates the probability of eve teasing and other such activities, which would be the case, if the site was principally commercial.

Women learn new skill

Earn money through training

uzma tahreem | 12131AA028 | dspa

Use skill to earn money

Train other women in same skill

Training in arts and crafts (Sewing, basket weaving, embroidery, painting, pot making, etc.) will yield profits by sale of craft items and will also train women in a unique skill they can use elsewhere. An exhibition for yearly exhibiting crafts will attract a lot of buyers.

HEALTHY MIND

BETTER LIVING

MEDICAL CENTRE where women get free check-ups and consultation for themselves and their children. The center will conduct health awareness camps for women to promote healthy living and nutrition. 36% of women in India lack nutrition and malnutrition undermines women's productivity, capacity to generate income, and ability to care for their families. This medical center aims at providing both mental and physical health to the women.

part four : the conclusion

Women in India consistently lag behind men in terms of access to education, health care, jobs etc. Apart from the economic and social inequality, women are victims of heinous crimes such as dowry deaths, rape, molestation and immoral trafficking. The reasons could be varied for various women, some women could be deprived of these opportunities because their men don’t want them to work, the others may be restricted due to family pressures or peer pressures. Of the 1.3 billion people who live in absolute poverty around the globe, 70 percent are women. We must believe that an empowered woman can change a lot in the society. We must believe in practical steps to create income for women, who are capable, intelligent and willing to work. This project is about working at the grass root level to empower women to attain economic participation in order to overcome poverty and inequality.

“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She knows nothing of borders and cares nothing for rules or customs. 'Time' for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.” ― Roman Payne

ICE CREAM SHOPPE BANJARA HILLS, HYDERABAD

3D RENDERS

TYPOLOGY: HOSPITALITY BUILT-UP AREA: 450 SFT LOCATION: BANJARA HILLS, HYDERABAD, TELANGANA, INDIA YEAR: 2018 This exciting project is the revival of Hyderabad’s beloved ice-cream parlor, Melting Moments. The brief called for a 50s “chock’lit shoppe” inspired interior, which was reinterpreted by way of tweaking design elements to create a graphic language that’s bold and contemporary. The result was a pop-up ice-cream parlor inspired by 50s retro nostalgia and utopian inclinations. 32

ICE CREAM SHOPPE BANJARA HILLS, HYDERABAD

DESIGN FEATURES • Steel butterfly truss with glass panes • Floating bar counter in polished wood that rests solely on the glass with no other structural support • Geometry: checkerboard flooring borrowed from the retro diners and triangular logo design that is clearly a rewind sign, beckoning visitors to “Rewind. Unwind. Relive the Melting Moments.” THE FINISHED LOOKEXTERIOR VIEWS

FURNITURE DESIGN

HEXA FLEXA

GON As a part of a series of designs inspired by origami and tailoring, HexaFlex is a dynamic pouf in the form of a hexaflexagon. Flexagons are flat models, usually constructed by folding strips of paper, that can be flexed or folded in certain ways to reveal faces besides the two that were originally on the back and front. Various experiments with different materials and at different scales led to the design of a soft furnishing piece that is dynamic and ever-changing.
