the advice

Congratulations on your Engagement!

Congratulations on your engagement! This season of your life is so special and unique – you’ll be planning the first day of your marriage with the help of family and friends, plus a few amazing professionals we hope you will find in this issue of V3.

As a wedding professional who has been working with brides, grooms, and their families for 16 years, we know a few things about the engagement season. There’s a lot of voices to listen to and a lot of people willing to give you advice. I would encourage you to listen to it all but give yourself time to make your own decisions knowing that the people who love you truly want you to have a wonderful wedding day.

Your wedding should be a reflection of your personalities, your story, your family and the future you are creating. This magazine is filled with ideas and photos from reallife weddings in our community – use this issue to inspire you. The professionals who have chosen to showcase their products and services in this issue want to take care of you and your fiancé to help you create a very special wedding day. Besides reading and referencing this issue of V3, I would also encourage you to make a list of your priorities for the big day. Is the band more important to you than having a lot of flowers? Would you be just as happy with a less-expensive DJ and having a larger meal for your guests? Knowing what you are most happy with will help you guide your decisions and keep you on task and in budget.

Lastly, have some fun! These months (years!) that you spend planning your wedding are the last of your single days and a preparation time for your married years. Ask your parents and grandparents about their wedding traditions. I’m always amazed at how large bouquets were at the time when my grandparents got married in the 1930’s. Laugh at past trends for weddings, like the puffy sleeves on gowns in the 80’s or the colored tuxedos from the 70’s. Take the time to enjoy the traditions of your family before creating new traditions with your spouse.

So again, I offer you my congratulations! You’ve made a wonderful decision to spend the rest of your life with the person you love. As you make plans, bring along this issue for all the inspiration it can provide.

All the best to you and your fiancé!

PROACTIVE HEALTH: THE BENEFITS OF ANNUAL WELLNESS VISITS

There are countless reasons why people put off annual wellness visits. Some believe they are healthy enough to skip. Others struggle to make time in their busy schedules for self-care. Concerns about cost, language barriers and general health care anxiety can also play a role. Whatever the reasons, the Centers for Disease Control estimates that over 20% of adults do not see a primary care physician (PCP) for a wellness visit each year. This July, Harbin Clinic challenges Rome and the surrounding areas to prioritize their health.

HEALTH MAINTENANCE PRIORITIES

One of the best ways to stay on top of wellness goals is to measure and understand the core four health metrics:

• Blood pressure: The force of one’s blood pushing against the walls of the arteries.

• Blood sugar: Also known as blood glucose, this refers to the amount of glucose in the blood.

• Cholesterol levels: The term for levels of a waxy, fat-like substance that occurs naturally. Too much in the blood can combine with other substances and stick to the walls of arteries.

• Healthy weight: The term for maintaining a body weight appropriate for height and overall health.

Although some health stats can be measured at home, annual wellness visits are valuable because, along with regular consultations and lab work, physicians can share insights about a patient’s core four metrics and how they align with personal health goals and medical needs.

Harbin Clinic physicians are also prepared to help patients monitor their progress, applying comprehensive knowledge of a patient's health and knowing when to collaborate or refer to other specialties if necessary. For example, a PCP will know when to encourage a patient to see a physical therapist for mobility issues or an endocrinologist for diabetes or glucose management.

WHY HEALTH MAINTENANCE MATTERS

Left to their own devices, many adults forget to monitor their core health metrics with all the other responsibilities they juggle, and they may not identify problems before it is too late. Others are unaware of how these metrics impact overall health, and understanding them can motivate people to seek guidance from a provider.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, increases stress on the heart and blood vessels. Over time, those with high blood pressure are at increased risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and other complications. Seeing a PCP may be the first time someone learns they have high blood pressure since it often has few, if any, symptoms. Learning to manage it with a doctor's help could save a life.

Similarly, having stable blood sugar levels is vital because high or low blood sugar levels can create health concerns. High blood sugar, or hyperglycemia, may lead to diabetes and other complications such as nerve damage, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease and vision problems. On the other hand, low blood sugar levels, or hypoglycemia, can cause symptoms like dizziness, confusion, and, in severe cases, loss of consciousness. With lab work and a physician’s help, patients can know their blood sugar levels and learn the best strategies for maintaining a healthy balance.

Keeping an eye on cholesterol levels is another critical metric because cholesterol causes plaque buildup in the arteries, narrowing the blood vessels and restricting blood flow, ultimately leading to heart attacks and strokes.

Maintaining a healthy weight is also important for overall wellbeing. Although someone may know how much they weigh, they might not have a clear understanding of whether their weight is at a healthy level. Both being underweight or overweight can negatively impact quality of life. At Harbin Clinic, physicians take a comprehensive approach to understanding patients' goals and lifestyles to identify the right strategies and programs that support a fulfilling life.

OTHER SELF-IMPROVEMENT GOALS

Beyond making an appointment with a PCP, patients can impact their core four health metrics by incorporating these goals into their daily routines.

• Get moving: Aim for at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise every day.

• Eat heart smart: Focus on foods rich in potassium and fiber, while cutting back on sodium to less than 1,500 mg per day.

• Drink plenty of water: While adding water, limit alcoholic drinks to one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men.

• Quit smoking: A PCP can be an excellent advocate and has access to supportive tobacco cessation programming.

• Chill: Identify ways to decrease stress while increasing opportunities for meditation or yoga for better relaxation. Check health maintenance off your bucket list this summer by incorporating these habits, supported by the guidance and care of Harbin Clinic. Take the challenge and make proactive steps toward better health and well-being.

the RING

Rome's Downtown Gem

AT THE HEART OF EVERY WEDDING CEREMONY LIES A SIMPLE YET LASTING SYMBOL— the wedding ring. More than just a piece of jewelry, the ring represents an unbroken circle of love, commitment, and shared dreams. It's a promise worn close, a daily reminder of the vows exchanged, and the life built together. For over 75 years, Greene's Jewelers, a family-owned gem in downtown Rome, has been crafting these symbols of eternal love with a blend of artistry, heritage, and heartfelt service.

The story of Greene's Jewelers is not just about beautiful rings and sparkling gemstones; it's a tale of unwavering faith in a community and the community's reciprocal trust. As owner Elaine Abercrombie recounts, "Downtown Rome in the 20s and 30s was always bustling. When Riverbend Mall opened and started filling in all their businesses in 1974, downtown was a ghost town. In that same year, my grandparents went from renting a little building to buying this one. That's how much faith they had in Romans to support our business, that we needed to give them a bigger place to come into."

This leap of faith during questionable times speaks volumes about Greene’s commitment to Rome. It's a testament to their belief that just as they trusted in their community, the community would, in turn, trust them with their most precious moments—including the selection of wedding jewelry.

Trust is the cornerstone of Greene's Jewelers' enduring success. "You have to have trust when selecting a jeweler," Abercrombie says. "It's my grandparent's name on the front of that door, and I will never do anything to tarnish that name." This dedication to integrity is evident in every aspect of their business, from the quality of their jewelry to their customer service.

At Greene's, every piece is chosen with meticulous care. "We don't select anything that we wouldn't select for our own selves," Abercrombie states. This personal touch extends to their custom design services, where creativity meets craftsmanship. "We have hundreds of loose gemstones, so we do a lot of design work. We can pretty much make something for every taste, and we rarely repeat a design.”

For couples embarking on their journey to find the perfect wedding rings, Greene's will meet you where you are. "We start off with just talking about what the customer is thinking about,"

Abercrombie explains. "Some come in knowing exactly what cut and style they want, but most people come in without a clue of what they want, so we will walk them through their options."

This approach reflects the store's philosophy of treating everyone who walks through their doors not as customers, but as friends. It's a sentiment that resonates deeply with the community, fostering a sense of belonging and trust that goes beyond mere transactions. "My grandparents and my family have always been volunteers. We're still doing that today. We support a lot of organizations. We try not to tell anyone no,” says Abercrombie. “This is who we are, this is where we live, these are the people

that we serve, these are our friends and family."

In many ways, Greene's Jewelers mirrors the very essence of a wedding ring—a symbol of enduring commitment, trust, and love. Just as couples trust Greene's to provide the perfect rings for their special day, Greene's has consistently demonstrated its trust in the community of Rome. When buying from Greene’s, as couples prepare to say "I do," they can take comfort in knowing that their wedding rings come from a place deeply rooted in the community.

An Experience Tailored for You

SEARCHING FOR YOUR PERFECT WEDDING DRESS can be a stressful ordeal, but this bridal and formal wear boutique transforms the search for a wedding dress into an intimate and fun journey tailored specifically to each bride's unique vision and style. Perfect Dress of Rome, located on Shorter Avenue, is dedicated to exceptional attention to detail, personalized service, and making every bride feel cherished and celebrated from the moment she steps through the door.

At Perfect Dress, the intention is to provide a custom experience for every bride. Offering appointment-only services and maintaining a four-guest limit, this ensures each bride receives the undivided attention she deserves which allows them to explore a stunning array of gowns without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. “When a bride comes in, she has access to the entire building on her own for that entire hour-and-a-half appointment. It’s all about her when she’s here,” says Alison Smith, owner of Perfect Dress.

With Smith’s fifteen years of experience, Perfect Dress has figured out how to give brides a stress-free and memorable experience when finding their perfect dress. It comes down to the personalized service provided by its experienced and passionate staff, where consultants spend time before and during the appointment getting to know the bride to better understand her vision, style, and preferences. “Then we let the bride choose the first five dresses,” says Smith. “A lot of places won’t let brides go touch any of the dresses, but it’s all about what you want and your perfect dress here. Once they try those on, we have a better idea of what style they want.” Perfect Dress provides expert guidance and genuine care throughout the dress selection process, all while giving the bride the ability to lead her own experience.

Although Smith has owned and operated the store for fifteen years, her history with Perfect Dress extends even further back. “My aunt originally opened this store in 1978, which was the year I was born,” says Smith. “When I was a little girl, I would always come by here and pretend with the dresses. The fact that it’s my aunt’s store keeps me passionate. I want to make her proud every day I come in here, and just making people happy makes you a happy person.”

Smith’s passion for making people happy is not just about finding their perfect dress, it is about giving everyone the best possible experience. “Everybody gets to feel beautiful when they walk into this store, whether they buy a dress or not. I want them to feel like the most special person,” says Smith. “This is their day. This is their perfect dress. This is their moment. For me, it’s all about the bride. I want it to be stress-free, I want it to be fun. Not everybody that walks in here is going to find their perfect dress here, but I want their experience to be perfect.”

Whether you are terrified or excited to begin your wedding dress and accessories shopping experience, if you’re in the market, a great first stop is Perfect Dress of Rome. It goes beyond simply offering beautiful gowns, Perfect Dress is a place to find confidence and an experience to cherish forever.

“En Vogue”

IN THE WORLD OF FASHION, "VOGUE" REPRESENTS THE EPITOME OF STYLE, the cutting edge of trends, and the pinnacle of elegance. It's about making a statement, setting the tone, and creating unforgettable moments. Now, imagine a wedding venue that embodies all of these qualities—a place where your love story isn't just celebrated, but elevated to the height of sophistication and uniqueness. Welcome to The Vogue, Rome's premier wedding destination that's redefining what it means to be truly “en vogue.”

Just as a fashion spread in a glossy magazine captures innovation, this downtown venue located at 247 Broad Street is the perfect place to design your day. The Vogue is where industrial chic meets romantic allure and every brick, beam, and chandelier tells a story of timeless elegance blended with contemporary flair. "I think the biggest thing that sets The Vogue apart is the atmosphere and the look," says Harvest Moon marketing director Tracy Hellriegel. "I don't know of another venue that has that elegant, industrial, eclectic atmosphere in the area. You've got all the brick, the metal, the modern light fixtures. It has its own unique feel."

This multi-level venue offers couples the flexibility to create their dream wedding. "The venue is really versatile with its separate floors," says Hellriegel. "You can do a beautiful ceremony upstairs with all those big windows, open space,

the venue

and high ceilings. Then you can come downstairs for a dinner reception while the staff flips the upstairs, turning it into a party venue." The Vogue can comfortably accommodate up to 200plus guests for a full ceremony and reception. However, its adaptability allows for even larger gatherings based on the couple's event style.

One of The Vogue's standout features is its partnership with Harvest Moon Cafe, which serves as the venue's exclusive caterer. This collaboration ensures a seamless experience for couples, with options ranging from basic catering to full-service wedding planning. "Harvest Moon is very flexible and will help you find menus that fit your budget or the style of your wedding if you have a theme,” says Hellriegel.

For couples seeking a hands-off approach, Harvest Moon offers comprehensive wedding planning services. "They are all certified wedding planners up at Harvest Moon, so they can help you contract with your vendors, do your timeline, plan your event budget," says Hellriegel. From venue rental to catering and planning services, The Vogue offers various packages to suit different needs and budgets. Couples can choose from weekend coordination services to full-scale wedding planning, allowing them to customize their level of involvement in the process. However, couples are also welcome to handle the planning themselves and simply use the venue and catering services.

While The Vogue caters to a wide range of couples, it has a particular appeal to those looking for something beyond the traditional. "To try to define the perfect couple, the first thing that comes to mind is the hipster crowd," Hellriegel says. "It's not a traditional venue by any means; it has a different kind of elegance fit for your edgy, bohemian kind of people."

The Vogue isn't just a venue; it's a piece of Rome's history reimagined for modern love stories. With its blend of industrial chic and elegant versatility, it offers couples a canvas to create a truly personalized and memorable wedding experience.

‘Tis the Season for Planning

EXPERIENCED. PROFESSIONAL. DETAILED. PERSONAL.

The Season Events takes wedding planning to a new level by combining decades of experience with Southern hospitality, humor, and charm.

It all started in 2007, after Owner and Wedding Planner, Holly Lynch, saw a need for professional event planning in the Rome, Georgia area. “There was a need for professional level of event planning, and since I come from a background in marketing, with experience in corporate event planning, I knew I could help fill that gap,” explains Lynch.

Now, as a certified wedding planner, The Season Events plans around 40 weddings a year, caters an additional 30-ish weddings, and still has the time to cater and help plan another 100 plus events each year. In just 17 years, Lynch and her team have helped orchestrate over 500 weddings.

Thankfully, Lynch doesn’t have to do all this alone. She has amassed a strong and willing team over the past years, with 15 permanent employees and another 50 contracted employees, all proud to help make each event both professional and personal, as only The Season Events can do.

“Every family that comes to us for their wedding is special to us. We become very protective of them, their plans, and strive to make all their expectations become reality,” Lynch says.

Lynch often speaks with the “we” pronoun, because she credits her amazing team with growing and challenging the business to always improving. One such key member is wedding planner and Vice President, Nicole Williams.

After working as a teacher for 17 years, while working part-time at The Season Events on the side, she joined the team full-time six years ago. “She’s changed everything about the way we’ve grown in these past few years,” says Lynch. “She is truly made for this job, and her clients love her!”

“Clients become family” she continues. “As wedding planners, we’ve learned that families are letting us into their lives on one of the most important occasions. Many times, this means a client will share personal details...we become their confidant.”

Williams adds “One of my favorite moments was having a bride’s mother reach out to me one year after her daughter’s wedding and tell me how she still felt like the whole weekend was a dream. She was so happy and so relaxed during the wedding that her memories of the day continue to give her such joy! That’s why I love what I do!”

Whether working with Williams or Lynch, clients can expect nothing short of the best wedding planning services available. Whether they are hired for full wedding planning or an all-inclusive package, The Season Events is prepared to help fulfill their clients’ dreams. The team is equipped to manage everything from catering the event, to getting the bride down the aisle, to planning the honeymoon.

WHEN IT COMES TO IMMORTALIZING YOUR MOST CHERISHED MOMENTS, few things compare to the art of wedding photography. PerfectUs Photo, an up-and-coming wedding and engagement photography business based in Rome, Atlanta, and the surrounding areas, has mastered this art with a unique blend of experience and care.

"PerfectUs Photo is just geared towards weddings and engagements, so I want my clients to know that it is very specialized," Andy Calvert explains. This focused approach ensures that every couple receives a personalized and consistent experience, capturing the essence of their special day with precision and care.

Andy Calvert is the owner and primary shooter at PerfectUs Photo, and he collaborates with a team of talented associates, including specialists like Ivan Felipe, who helps accommodate Spanish/ English weddings. "It basically comes from 10 years of experience in the industry and connecting a lot of different pieces together," Calvert says. "A couple might come to me in the early stages of their wedding and say we want you as our photographer, but we don’t know where to start, so I have a long list of vendors and people who can accommodate anything that you need." Calvert’s extensive network of vendors includes anything from DJs to decorators, making him a valuable

Capturing Love

resource for couples planning their big day.

At the heart of Calvert’s approach lies a blend of photojournalism and traditional portraiture. "Most couples don’t know how to pose, so I’ll try to set them up in situations to make them more comfortable, so they can be themselves," he explains. This style allows couples to have authentic, heartfelt images. “I am most concerned about my clients having a good time on their wedding day, and the photos will reflect that,” Calvert says.

For PerfectUs Photo, the key to successful wedding photography is more than just technical skill; it’s about creating a positive experience for

the couple. "Even if you take amazing photos, if they weren’t happy with the day and didn’t have a good time, they probably won’t like them," he says. His passion lies in the little details and candid moments that couples will cherish for years to come. "My main goal is client happiness and my clients being able to look back at their memories from 10 or 15 years ago and remember the small things.”

Andy’s commitment to client satisfaction is evident in every aspect of his work, including multiple consultations with couples to understand their vision ahead of time. “I think the biggest

thing is having sessions to explore what they’re looking for and gathering all these details before the wedding, so you’re not discovering it in the last second,” he says.

The commitment PerfectUs Photo offers extends far beyond local meetings with couples. "We handle international weddings and will travel anywhere, whether within the United States or abroad," says Calvert. "We're more than willing to travel to Europe or any other destination to ensure our clients have the wedding of their dreams."

LIGHTBULB MOMENTS

with Matthews Lighting & Electric

JULY: Swimming Pool Safety

There is no better way to cool off during these dog days of summer than a dip in a swimming pool.

When pool safety comes to mind, electrical issues might be the last thing you think of, but if you have underwater or outdoor lighting it is very important to make sure everything is in working order before you take a dip.

Start by checking your power supplies for wear and tear. If wires are loose or frayed, or anything looks off, do not swim until you have a licensed electrician inspect it.

Other things that are cause for alarm are lights that are either dull or flickering, buzzing noises or a burning odor known as “ozone smell”.

It is also important that any outlets around the pool are CFGI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets and have a hinged cover installed to protect them from the elements. If you notice any damage or don’t have CFGI outlets, put your safety first and consult a licensed electrician.

If you have or are looking to install a pool or hot tub, give Matthews Lighting and Electrical a call so we can make sure the only shock you experience when you dive in is refreshing and cool.
