Say ‘cheers’ to illegal stock Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. The police successfully clamped down and confiscated liquor with an estimated value of R45 000 at the Emfuleni Golf Estate on October 20. Police arrived at one of the business place demanding to see a valid license. Lt Col Rautenbach said the owner failed to produce a license after they searched the premises. The operational commander supports visible police and national liquor officer, Lt Colonel Kobus Rautenbach. He said a few illegal liquor stores, including one on the Barrage Road have already been shut down by the police. The police said they won’t hesitate to close even the smallest of taverns if it does not comply with the law. “We want every person to respect the law. As the schools will be closed for the festive season, we are aware that children will try to visit the shebeens,” said Rautenbach. October to December is the best time for taverns when it comes to business. “Do it, but let it be in the right way,” said Lt Col Rautenbach. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said they are not against any person operating business as long as they do it with a valid licence.

While Sithole was busy obtaining particulars, the driv er disappeared into the dark. The police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving. SASOLBURG. - Four house robbers have been found guilty and sentenced to 15 years by the Sasolburg Magistrate. The complainant alleges that on Thursday, October 23, 2014, he was outside his house when three unknown males approached him, pointing a firearm at him and instructing him to go into the house. While inside the house they shot him in the waist and instructed him to go to the bedroom to open the safe from which they took a firearm. They also took a a flat screen TV, cell phones and a white double-cab GWM bakkie. The case was given to the Zamdela Trio Task Team who worked tirelessly until they arrested four suspects in Orange Farms in Gauteng. They recovered the stolen bakkie, the firearm and other stolen property. Sizwe Manana (26) was sentenced to 15 years for house robbery; he also received 7 years for attempted murder. Yolo Mvunyiswa, Abram Ngobo, and Doctor Mncube received 15 years each for house robbery. The management of the station welcomes this sentence and hopes that it will deter criminals from committing crimes.

VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging SAPS has reported another success following the retrieval of 3 motor vehicles which were recently stolen and hijacked. The vehicles were discovered following a tip-off to police officials and members of the Hawks who managed to arrest a 37-yearold suspect found in possession of the vehicles. Vereeniging SAPS spokesperson Captain

Fikile Funda says, “A silver Mercedes benz which was hijacked in Witbank, a white Chevrolet bakkie that was hijacked at Heidelberg and a cream Toyota Conquest that was stolen from Vereeniging were all found.” Funda states that the suspect will be transferred to Witbank and Heidelberg to answer to charges of the hijacking of both cars. “The suspect appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Monday. His case was postponed. Investigation is still on-going.”

Two women arrested for possession VEREENIGING. - Two women have been arrested and detained at Vereeniging Police cells after they were found to be in possession of dagga with a street value of R1000. Vereeniging Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, “This happened when the two suspects came to the centre to visit arrested inmates. “As one of the rules at the centre, all visitors are subjected to a body search as part of the safety procedures of the centre. The two suspects were searched and parcels of dagga were found stashed in their private parts.” Funda concludes, adding that the arrested suspects will be appearing in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The first ever Squash Doubles League played in the Vaal Triangle was completed at the end of September. Doubles is one of the aspects of squash which is growing rapidly in South Africa and the Vaal Triangle Club decided that it was necessary to get on the band wagon and start a league. The league, sponsored by Pro Energy Enterprise (Human Resources and Labour Relations Consulting), started in April and consisted of menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and mixed sections. A total of 14 menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s teams and 10 mixed teams participated. All games were played on a Monday evening at the ArcelorMittal Squash Centre. Everyone had such a great time that a decision was made to make it an annual event.

HardÂ workÂ paysÂ off MEYERTON. - The Hansa Fish River Canoe Marathon took place in Cradock, on the weekend of October 9 and 10, as the South African K2 River Championships. Gauteng paddlers train on the local Klip River in Midvaal to prepare for this event and the fast flowing turbulent water release is a huge surprise to first timers on an A Grade River! While the long drive is part of the exhausting ordeal, the guaranteed water release of 26 cumecs along the river to the coast near Port Elizabeth provides excellent annual white water attraction for river canoeists. The river water released from the Grass Ridge Dam on the edge of the Karoo near Hofmeyr is pristinely clean, fast flowing with enormous wave trains, some tricky rocky rapids, and while popular among South African canoeists, also attracts international competitors to the promise of sure fast flowing white water. Craig Smith who lives in Midvaal and his partner Dean Conrad from Kempton Park enjoyed their white water experience and finished successfully in a time of seven hours 24 minutes.

Prepare for a stress free Christmas season In less than 60 days we will be celebrating Christmas. As much as we love Christmas, it is a period of abnormal stress. Determine Whether to Keep or Discard Family Traditions Continuing family traditions links us to the past, particularly the carefree days of our childhood when Santa Claus was real and Christmas morning was the most exciting day of the year. Most families have holiday

traditions, some simple and others quite elaborate. Whatever your family practices during the season, if what was done in the past doesn’t work today, stop or change the practice. Just because something is traditional is no reason to keep doing it. 2. Establish a Budget While keeping your spending within the constraints of a Christmas budget can be difficult, it is much easier than coping with months of debt repayments in 2016 to buy gifts that may end up being sold on eBay in January. The stress accompanying the debt can be avoided by realistically considering your current financial circumstances and future needs, settling on an amount you can comfortably afford, and staying within that limit. 3. Maintain a Schedule Many families have two working spouses; single parents often work two or more jobs

to make ends meet. The demands of preparing for the holidays on top of a normal work week can be overwhelming for most people. Generally, the excitement of the season and the anticipation of a perfect Christmas will inspire you to draw down energy reserves to get things done, usually by giving up leisure time and sleep. Louis Harmse van Spectrum Sport het gesê dat die wedren weer eens in ‘n goeie gees van welwillendheid en liefdadigheid plaasgevind het. Meer as 1 000 fietsryers het die bekende fietsresies bygewoon. “Elke jaar het nuwe uitdagings en ten spyte van die wind en weersomstandighede, het hulle steeds die byeenkoms ondersteun. Weer eens baie dankie aan elke fietsryer wat sy dag opgeoffer het om ‘n verskil in iemand anders se lewe te maak,” sê hy. Die inkomste uit die fietswedren was R100 000 en al die fondse sal aangewend word om gebalanseerde en voedsame maaltye aan mense te voorsien wat andersins sou hongerly. Public can help determine these eagles’ territorial boundaries

MIDVAAL. - The pair of Verreaux’s (Black) eagles that has been seen for the first time during 2003 skirting the hills above Meyers Farm, west of Alberton, and extending along the greater Klipriviersberg ridge system requires further investigation! It is widely speculated that these eagles may be the pair that previously nested in Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve during the 1990’s and early 2000’s having for some unknown reason vacated that site to cut a new urban niche for themselves within the approximately 15km long Klipriviersberg ridge system. Their main attraction is undoubtedly the natural abundance of rock hyrax (dassie) populations found within the entire rocky ridges with subsequent overspill into urban storm water drains and residential gardens. Members of raptor conservation projects have been actively monitoring this pair since 2007 when they were breeding in a power pylon off the Reading Interchange, having raised numerous chicks to juvenile and fledging stages. During the latter half of their 2008 breeding season, their nest was deliberately destroyed which forced an 80-day-old juvenile to fledge prematurely. To prevent a recurring scenario during the following breeding seasons, permission was obtained from the late Hans Meyer to enable the erection of an artificial nesting platform on safe and secure property. The mast was donated by the then Siyavaya Highway Construction JV and was erected in time before the new 2009 breeding season commenced. Fortunately for us, the eagle pair diverted from reusing the power pylon and although the first breeding attempt was unsuccessful, during 2010 the pair raised a chick to juvenile and fledging stages being the first known success on an artificial man-made structure for large eagles in southern Africa or possibly Africa as a whole. Sadly, during September 2010 the male disappeared and was never seen again. The female had to raise her young protégé by herself. 21 months and 13 days later, during 2013, the female attracted a new male that has been with her since. Did you know that one in eight households have a cooking fire each year and that more fires start in the kitchen than in any part of the home? Most of these fires are caused by unattended food on the stove. Burns can be very painful and it is important to be able to distinguish between what is considered a minor burn and serious burn. It is a good idea for everyone in the household to know the fundamentals of what to do in the event of a burn accident. Treating minor burns: • Cool the burn. Hold the burnt area under cool (not cold) running water for 10 or 15 minutes or until the pain subsides. If you do not have running water you can submerge the burnt area in cool water or cool it with cold compresses. Cooling the burn reduces swelling by conducting heat away from the skin. Do not put ice on the burn. • Cover the burn with a sterile gauze bandage. Wrap the gauze loosely to avoid putting pressure on burned skin. Bandaging keeps air off the burn, reduces pain and protects blistered skin. Avoid using fluffy cotton or other material – you do not want lint in the wound. • Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. These include aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others), naproxen (Aleve) or acetaminophen (Tylenol, others). Minor burns usually heal without further treatment. There may be some discolouration on the burnt area, however, if the pain increases or redness, fever, swelling or oozing occur this means it has become infected and you should seek medical help. Avoid re-injuring or tanning if the burns are less than a year old as this can cause more extensive discoloring or pigmentation changes. Use sunscreen on the area for at least a year. Knowing what not to do with a burn is almost as important as knowing what to do. Different levels of burns often need to be treated differently. • Do not use ice. Judokas uit Sedibeng blink uit Die Suid-Afrikaanse Laerskole Judokampioenskappe het op 3 en 4 Oktober in Johannesburg plaasgevind. Daar was meer as 600 deelnemers by die toernooi, met 56 deelnemers vanuit Sedibeng. Die onderskeie klubs het uitstekend presteer en Sedibeng het met 33 medaljes teruggekeer. Sedibeng het verskeie aktiewe judo klubs in Meyerton, Vanderbijlpark en Vereeniging.

Unknown deceased must be identified The Vanderbijlpark SAPS is investigating a culpable homicide (hit and run) case following an incident on the 2nd of October 2015, at about 22:00, on the Golden Highway (R57) near Stonehaven, Vanderbijlpark. An unknown male pedestrian was hit by a car and was left there. He was found by a passer-by, who called the police as he was dead on the scene. The deceased is in his mid 40’s and about 1.7m tall. He is dark in complexion. He was found wearing a Arcellor Mittal top (overall range), with grey reflectors on both hands, black tracksuit pants with the letters ‘KG’ on the left pocket and a black T-shirt. We are now urgently looking for the family of the deceased for identification and investigation purposes. SEBOKENG. - The Vaal community has yet again been made proud. This time it’s by 20-year-old Snethemba Mbatha from Sebokeng who is in the running to become Miss South Africa (SA) 2016. Mbatha has in the past few weeks gained a lot of support from Vaal residents who believe that she has a good chance of making it to the top. Mbatha is a second-year student at Boston Media House studying Public Relations and Radio: “I entered the competition because I want to be a role model to young girls, I want to bring change to my community and to SA as whole.” Mbatha adds that she hopes her giant leap in entering the competition will show young girls that dreams do come true no matter what kind of background one comes from. Mbatha’s main inspiration for entering the competition is her late mom who had encouraged her to enter the competition: “My dream beyond this competition is to graduate, gain experience and then start my own company. “I want to create job opportunities, because there are so many graduates who are unemployed.
