rom beach to bay, sand to sidewalk, Virginia Beach is way more than your average beach town. With the world’s longest pleasure beach, an award-winning boardwalk, a cosmopolitan downtown, more than 35 miles of ocean and bay beaches and the most visited nature park in the state, it’s no wonder more than three million people visit this exciting resort town each year. A day in Virginia Beach begins and ends at the Oceanfront. Joggers hit the 3-mile boardwalk in the early morning hours, as the sun rises over the Atlantic. As more and more folks wander out of their hotel rooms to stake a place in the sand, the beach livens up, with colorful beach towels dotting the wide sandy beaches, families on surreys cruising down the boardwalk, and friends meeting up for a surf, swim or stroll. With beaches wider than a football field, there’s plenty of room to stretch out on the sand, throw a Frisbee or build a sandcastle or two. The bustling Oceanfront is a flurry of activity throughout the day and into the night, when people flock to the boardwalk for oceanfront dining, live music and family fun. During the summer, Beach Street USA takes over the Oceanfront with nightly entertainment and festivals. Fireworks light up the sky many evenings in July and August, and multiple special events and festivals bring even more activity nearly every weekend. In a city as large and diverse as Virginia Beach, you never know where a day might take you. You could be teeing off at one of our championship courses, kayaking through pristine coastal marshes, swimming with a friendly bottlenose dolphin, or learning about the first colonists who set foot on American soil. Venture just an hour away from the beach and you could be riding the world’s tallest, floorless rollercoaster, reliving a Civil War battle, or exploring a Colonial village. Virginia Beach and the surrounding region are rich in history, culture, and most importantly, fun. World-class museums and important historic sights complement amusement parks and entertainment venues, while festivals throughout the year celebrate everything from art to Elvis.
All this with the beautiful backdrop of an endless ocean and peaceful bay make Virginia Beach one of the finest seaside getaways in the country. Check out what’s new in the area. The Busch Gardens theme park welcomes its newest addition, Forest of Fun, a new kid-friendly, Sesame Streetthemed attraction. The new expansion features four family-friendly rides and an indoor Sesame Street dining facility. In addition, parents and kids will also be able to enjoy the new 4-D movie at the Globe Theatre entitled, “Sesame Street Presents Lights, Camera, Imagination!” Be careful where you light up Virginia Beach! Governor Timothy Kane has signed a legislation that bans smoking in bars and restaurants in the state of Virginia. After December 1, 2009, a restaurant, under the law, can offer a smoking section only if that area is walled off and has its own ventilation. Privately owned clubs are exempt. Professionally trained Concierge associates are on site to assist you with all your needs and help plan your vacation. elcome to one of the East Coast’s best cities for fresh, local seafood! When dining out in Virginia Beach, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a restaurant that doesn’t feature at least one seafood dish on the menu. With saltwater from the Atlantic Ocean and fresh and brackish water from the Chesapeake Bay and local rivers, the region is teeming with a wide variety of fish and shellfish. From succulent crab cakes to pan-seared sea trout, these waters offer up an overwhelming abundance of mouth-watering options for your dining pleasure. Ever since 1607, when Captain John Smith rowed ashore on these sandy beaches from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach has gone down in history as hosting a plentiful selection of underwater delicacies. After dropping anchor in Cape Henry, the northeastern part of Virginia Beach, Captain Smith and his crew of English colonists were delighted to discover a bountiful selection of fish, as well as the rich, earthy and sweet flavor of oyster meat. These bivalve beauties, locally revered as Lynnhaven Oysters, were soon a worldly demand, frequently requested on the menu by presidents and kings. Today, the Lynnhaven Oyster continues its reign as a regional favorite from September through April, served up in an infinite number of ways, from chilled and raw to fried or smoked. Oceanfront restaurant Catch 31 shells out over 10 varieties of oyster dishes, each evoking a unique flavor (from sweet and buttery to mildly fruity) and paired with a special sauce of your choice. Another shell-dweller, the blue crab is a top-notch local catch prepared fresh in a tantalizing array of time-honored methods. This king of the Chesapeake Bay boasts meat that is sweet and succulent, perfect for crab cakes (an area favorite) or served steamed, with their hard shell cracked open and the meat dipped in butter. If you’re visiting between the months of May and August, soft shell crabs are at their peak of perfection, served up fried, broiled or sautéed. If you’re craving crab, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, head to Rockfish on 16th Street, where crab is always an option on the menu.
While they dish up everything from an early morning crab frittata to a delicious crab stuffed flounder in a white wine cream sauce, crab cakes are their absolute specialty. Served broiled, blackened, sautéed or fried, on their own or on a bun, and with personalized options such as a breadcrumb filler or jumbo lump crab, customizing the perfect crab cake is a piece of, well, cake. Kick off your meal with the baked deviled crab starter, a treat for the taste buds and, with its savory mixture of herbs and spices, a true example of creative Virginia Beach cuisine. Check out Rockfish’s baked deviled crab recipe to take some local flavor home with you. Once you’ve sampled the shellfish, don’t stop there! Fresh, meltin-your-mouth fish is at the top of the list in the area’s exceptional dining. The region is home to a variety of fish such as Atlantic mackerel, black sea bass, bluefish, catfish, cobia, croaker, flounder, sea trout, Spanish mackerel, spot and striped bass, just to name a few. And when it comes to preparation, the possibilities are endless. Fried, broiled, sautéed, stuffed—you name it, our local chefs have done it. Of course, it’s always best to choose the catch of the day to get the ultimate in fresh seafood. Refer to our Seafood For All Seasons chart to reel in the freshest of catches during your stay. Vacation is a time to indulge, so satisfy your appetite for seafood by visiting the dozens of Oceanfront eateries, dishing up all the elements of an excellent dining experience—a delicious meal, outstanding service and an atmosphere like no other. Bon appétit!

Do you enjoy horseback riding? Long trail rides through the woods? Want to explore over 165 acres on horseback? Just 20 minutes West of Williamsburg you will find the only farm East of Richmond where you can go trail-riding on horseback, Cedar Grove Plantation. Just a quick hour and fifteen minute drive from the oceanfront, you’ll experience the beautiful outdoors that Virginia has to offer. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway for two or something the entire family can enjoy, Cedar Grove Plantation is sure to please. The horses are gentle and well-trained, a great environment for children, beginners, and the experienced rider. Kids can enjoy hands on experiences with horses, canoeing, hiking, and swimming! You’ll start off by exploring the farm on an hour and a half horseback ride through the woods and fields that cover the plantation; then stop for a picnic lunch by the pond. While riding, be sure to notice the signs that deer, rabbit, and other wildlife live there as well. You may even see a hawk flying overhead. When you are finished with your trail ride, be sure to take some time to explore the history of the circa 1700 plantation. Cedar Grove Plantation is located in Historic New Kent, Virginia and was the home of the late First Lady Letitia Christian Tyler, wife of our 10th president John Tyler. The couple was married at the plantation March 29, 1813 and Mrs. Tyler, who died in the White House and had her funeral in Washington, was transported to Cedar Grove and is buried with some of her children in the cemetery there, which everyone is welcome to explore. The Large Georgian Style brick home that they lived in has been fully restored and most of the original plantation buildings are still in existence. Be sure to ask your trail guide about some of the ghostly experiences guests have had at the farm. It is rumored that Letitia is still in the house. She has been known to push guests down the stairs at night and toss plates off of the buffet in the living room. Your day is certainly not over when you are done exploring Cedar Grove Plantation. The New Kent Winery is located less then 2 miles away. This newly opened winery offers 17,000 square feet of state of the art wine-making equipment. It has been modeled to reflect an earlier time when wine making was common in the New Kent, Virginia region and is built of materials reclaimed from structures well over a century old. They harvest a variety of vines including Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Norton – a grape native to Virginia. There are more plantations worth visiting in New Kent as well. perating in Hampton Roads since 1997, Soya offers upscale sushi in a contemporary setting. Soya’s location on the Peninsula has a four-star rating from the Daily Press and was voted “Best Sushi” by the Williamsburg Gazette. In 2006, a location opened at The Shoppes @ 31 Ocean, bringing upscale and unique sushi to the Oceanfront Resort Area. World Famous Sushi Chef, Chef Dave Beckley has worked in Richmond, Maryland, and California. Three years ago he was offered positions at Sushi Samba in New York, Sushi Lounge in New Jersey, and in Portland, Oregon. Instead, he chose to come to Virginia Beach and work under Mr. So, Master Sushi Chef and Owner of Soya, in an effort to learn more about the sushi business and gain more experience and knowledge from a Master Sushi Chef. He started out as a hibachi chef 16 years ago, then attended Kujaku Traditional Japanese School of Bistro in Connecticut. Chef Dave also trained in Richmond under famous sushi chef, KC Jung. There are two types of sushi chefs – Traditional and Fusion. While Traditional is the foundation of sushi, the Fusion chef prides himself on creating new rolls, using new ideas, and challenging his mind. Chef Dave, a “Spice of Life Fusion Chef,” has created a number of different rolls that can be found only at Soya! One would have to start with Virginia Beach’s own King Neptune Roll! This roll is a California Roll, topped with the freshest lobster around. A past King, Mr. Tom Frantz named this roll when he came in to Soya and had this created especially for him. He loved it so much and repeatedly asked for it until the name stuck!
Chef Dave’s world famous Imogi Roll is a popular item at Soya. As this roll is created and placed in front if you, it tells the story of an old Korean legend about a snake that wants to be a dragon. If you’re a Texas fan, be sure to ask for the Texas Longhorn Roll, which actually looks like a Texas Longhorn. There is also a volcano roll like you’ve never seen before. It’s not a Luxury anymore Vacations are important. In our fast-paced world we all need to take the time to relax and enjoy life. Timeshares allow and encourage us to take time to rest and recharge. What is truly important? Is it time with our children and grandchildren? Is it decompressing from our job and work environment? Perhaps a relaxing week with nothing planned beyond that walk on the beach? No one can argue that vacations are good for us. Stress is something we all have to deal with in our daily lives. On vacation we can cast off the stress and enjoy the things that matter most. Because it offers a unique, affordable and hasslefree vacation experience, timeshare ownership has dramatically increased during the past 25 years. According to ARDA, the American Resort Development Association, the number of United States timeshare resorts has increased from 240 to more than 1600 while the number of American households owning timeshare suites has increased from fewer than 100,000 to more than 4.4 million. Is it time for you to get involved? Think of what you’ll spend on vacations anyway. If you only spend $200 a night for 7 nights, in 20 years you’ll spend $52,000! That’s at a modest 8% inflation rate.
Travel the world Perhaps travel is one of your life’s goals and pleasures. You may already know that one of the features of timeshare ownership is the advantage of exchange. Gold Key Resorts is proud to affiliate with Interval International, based in Miami, Florida. Interval Inernational is the premier exchange company in the industry. Affiliating with the best resorts in the world including Disney, Marriott and Four Seasons, our owners have access to the finest resort vacation accommodations in the world. When you are ready to visit new destinations and experience exciting things, Interval Inernational will be there to help you make your plans a reality. Remember,
timeshare exchange is based on location, supply and demand. Ownership of a vacation home in Virginia Beach is a very good way to assure your vacation home has high demand in the exchange system. Since less than 10% of all premier rated are located on a beach, you will be glad you chose a Gold Key Resorts property.
