Murals & Peanuts
Peanuts Around Town
You might wonder what is with the nuts. Peanuts aren’t nuts, actually. They are members of the legume family, and they are the largest agricultural export from the Wiregrass area, thanks to our farmers. Approximately half of the peanuts grown in the United States come from right here. That’s a lot of peanuts! So what better way to celebrate The Peanut Capital of the World than with over 30 fiberglass peanut statues decorating our businesses? Can you find them all? As a hint, start by finding the Elvis Nut at the Visit Dothan Headquarters, and the staff can give you a map to find the rest!
Alabama’s Mural City
Dothan has a rich history from farming to railroad, music to movies, and of course, the peanut industry. So we decided to paint it on the walls of our most historic buildings downtown. You’ll find murals dedicated to a Tuskeegee Airman, Johnny Mack Brown, a Creek Indian Chief, and Ray Charles. There’s one representingthe Dothan Riot of 1889, and thecapture of a military wife during a skirmish on a boat. Peanuts Around Town scavenger hunt And don’tmiss the largest and first maps and Mural City Maps are available mural,The Salute to the Peanut at the Visit Dothan Headquarters or for Industry. It begins with Dr. George download at VisitDothan.com Washington Carver, and moves throughto the modern day National Peanut Festival.
Need a Map?
The best way to experience the Mural project is to start at the Wiregrass Art Museum and take a walking tour through downtown. Don’t forget to

every season is the perfect season to travel to dothan
Welcome to Dothan! Nestled in the heart of southeast Alabama sits Dothan, the city center for the Wiregrass Area. Since it’s incorporation in 1885, people have been coming to Dothan for all the reasons you’ll find here in this guidebook - art, music, shopping, sports, and restaurants. But there’s something you’ll find outside of this guidebook that will make you want to stay a little longer or plan your next trip. It’s an overwhelming sense of community when you walk the street of Foster Fest. It’s the famous southern hospitality behind the front desk of your hotel. The “hey y’all” from the waiter or the shopkeeper. The pride we take in the beauty of our small city and sharing that with visitors. The fun you can share with your family at any of our attractions. It’s all those things that we think makes Dothan special. We hope you think so, too. The Visit Dothan staff is prepared to answer any question you have about your stay in our little part of the world. From hotels to things to do to a recommendation for lunch, we can help! We have a gift shop in our Visitors Center for all things Dothan! Don’t forget to use #VisitDothan when you’re snapping photos around town and post them to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We love seeing how you enjoy the city!
